Meanwhile, the transient, dimeric species 3 can be isolated with the same ligand coupling fashion, however, with a drastic distorsion angle of the bimpm ligand and reactive NiMe2 fragment, revealing the possible mechanism of this rearrangement. A much more stable dimeric congener, 5, with an exo ligand coupling, is synthesized in the presence of 18-crown-6, which captures the potassium counter ion. The C-C coupling formation between two bimpm ligands results from the effective electron transfer from divalent lanthanide fragments. Without the divalent lanthanide, the reductive coupling occurs on a different carbon of the ligand, nicely showing the modulation of the spin density induced by the presence of the lanthanide ion. The electronic structures of these complexes are investigated by magnetic study (SQUID), indicating a 2F7/2 ground state for each ytterbium in all the heterometallics. Previous investigations of the stress response in fish have focused primarily on cortisol levels in a single matrix-blood plasma-which confines interpretations of cortisol levels to a short temporal frame. Epidermal mucus has been proposed as an alternative or complement to plasma that may provide a view to cortisol levels over a different temporal window allowing comparative assessment. Here, we explore the potential for multi-tissue cortisol analysis using both plasma and epidermal mucus in Pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis). The relative timing at which cortisol increased and decreased in the two matrices as well as cortisol concentrations at estimated peak levels were compared in two trials after (i) inducing cortisol synthesis by adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH1-24) administration and (ii) inducing cortisol elimination using cortisol (hydrocortisone, 98%) injection. The ACTH treatment elicited a peak plasma cortisol response approximately 12 hours post-injection, while mucus cortisol concentrations peaked later at approximately 62 hours post-injection. Exogenous cortisol treatments suggested relatively little transfer of cortisol from plasma to mucus, potentially reflecting differential effects of endogenous and exogenous cortisol. Our results suggest the potential utility of mucus as a sampling matrix that provides an extended window for detection of the stress response as compared to plasma. Results also suggest the utility of a multi-tissue approach to cortisol analysis with potential applications to applied fisheries research. The current study presents a case of very advanced, multifocal BCC who received concurrent vismodegib and RT. The patient initially came in with four large primary areas of disease including the left preauriculum, right shoulder, chest wall and right lateral ankle. All sites achieved a clinical complete response, with a pathologic complete response at the right shoulder. The ankle lesion did not require RT and continues to have a clinical complete response. The findings from our case report support several other cases with similar efficacy when vismodegib and RT are combined.External auditory canal carcinoma (EACC) is a rare disease. The current study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) for EACC. The present study retrospectively reviewed 34 consecutive patients treated for EACC with EBRT between February 2001 and January 2019 at the University of Tokyo Hospital. Clinical staging was performed according to the modified Pittsburgh classification. Of all the included patients, seven patients were in the early stages (I or II) and 27 in the advanced stages (III or IV) of EACC. A total of 16 patients underwent EBRT and surgery (S+RT) pre- and/or postoperatively, while 18 patients underwent definitive radiotherapy (dRT). The median prescribed doses for the S+RT and dRT groups were 66 and 70 Gy, respectively. The median follow-up period for all patients was 22.4 months (range, 2-205 months). The 5-year overall survival rates of the S+RT and dRT groups were 66.7 and 45.1%, respectively. The progression-free survival rate at 5-year was 55.
