It most often appears later in life without important symptoms except for cervical swelling. Here, together with a review of literature, we report the case of a 72-year-old man, smoker but without other specific risk factors, who presented laryngeal dyspnea for about one year. Neck CT scan performed during a previous hospitalization for respiratory failure revealed a left mixed laryngocele that was later surgically removed with cervicotomic access. The patient was discharged after one week. About 15%-25% of appendices removed to treat acute appendicitis present normal macro- and macroscopic morphology. The objective of this study was to verify an association of proinflammatory, neuroendocrine and immune mediators with morphologically normal appendices removed from patients with clinical laboratorial and imaging characteristics of acute appendicitis.

Appendices removed from 121 adult patients of both genders were distributed into three groups according to their following characteristics group 1 53 macro- and microscopically normal appendices from patients with clinical, laboratorial and imaging diagnosis of acute appendicitis; group 2 24 inflamed appendices from patients with clinical, laboratorial, imaging and histopathological diagnosis of acute appendicitis; group 3 44 normal appendices from patients submitted to right colectomy to treat localized ascending colon adenocarcinoma. This case report shows the indication of the cytogenetic analysis in the management of patients with retinoblastoma, and the interest of a genetic counseling. We report the medical observation of a five and a half years old patient who was followed in the medical genetic's department for intellectual disability associated with facial dysmorphia. The cytogenetic study objectified the presence of an interstitial deletion of the long arm of chromosome 13 46, XX, del (13) (q14q22). A genetic counseling, with study of the karyotype of the parents is planned, specially to search for a balanced insertion 13q14 insertion and deletion. In addition, the patient has been followed since the age of 9 months at the pediatric ophthalmology department for a bilateral retinoblastoma, in remission. The evaluation of 24h urinary oxalate excretion is the gold standard for diagnosing hyperoxaluria in patients with recurrent urolithiasis. However, 24h urine sample collection is cumbersome. Therefore we aim to see if oxalate to creatinine ratio in random urine sample can be used as an alternative.

A cross-sectional study was conducted at Section of Chemical Pathology, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Aga Khan University Karachi from 1st February to December 31, 2019. A total of 62 adult patients, 18-60 years of age with history of kidney stones presenting to the clinical laboratory for 24h urine oxalate estimation were invited to participate in the study after informed consent. Clinical details were recorded on a structured questionnaire and patients were guided to submit 24h urine and a random spot urine sample. Urinary oxalate was measured on Micro lab 300 using a kit based on oxalate oxidase principle by Trinity Biotech plc, Wicklow, Ireland following standard operating procedures. Urinary creatinine was measured on ADVIA 1800 by Siemens, US using kinetic Jaffe reaction according to the manufacturer's instructions.
