Published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.INTRODUCTION The objective of this study was to report on the clinical performance of non-invasive prenatal testing(NIPT)for trisomies 21, 18 and 13 in twin pregnancies and to define the performance of NIPT by combining our cohort study results with published studies in a systematic meta-analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS A cohort study was carried out in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Kanghua Hospital. Meanwhile, searches of PubMed, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, and Web of Science for all relevant peer-reviewed articles were performed with a restriction to English language publication before 15th June 2019. Quality assessments were conducted with Quality Assessment Tool for Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 checklist. Data analysis, heterogeneity, subgroup analysis and publication bias were carried out using Meta-DiSc 1.4 and Stata 12.0. RESULTS 141 twin pregnancies included in our cohort study and confirmation revealed one true-positive case for trisomy 21 and 140 true-negative cases. Ttected by copyright. All rights reserved.OBJECTIVES The aim of this study is to understand whether the shape of three sub-regions of the mandibular corpus (the alveolar arch, corpus at M1 and posterior symphysis) are useful for making taxonomic assessments at the genus and species levels in extant hominids. MATERIALS AND METHODS We use data taken from 3D surface scans of the mandibular corpus of seven extant hominid taxa Gorilla gorilla gorilla, Gorilla beringei graueri, Homo sapiens, Pan paniscus, Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii, Pongo abelii, and Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus to generate four shape variables alveolar arch shape (AAS), corpus shape at M1 (CSM1 ), posterior symphysis shape at the midline (PSSM), and posterior symphysis shape (PSS). To ascertain how reliable each mandibular shape variable is for assessing taxonomy, we ran canonical discriminant and discriminant function analysis, reporting cross-validated results. RESULTS Using a combination of three mandibular corpus shape variables, 99% of specimens were classified correctly for genus-level analyses. A maximum of 100% of Pan specimens, 94% of Gorilla specimens and 96% of Pongo specimens were classified correctly at the species level when up to three mandibular shape variables were included in the analyses. When mandibular corpus variables were considered in isolation, posterior symphysis shape yielded the highest overall correct classification results. DISCUSSION The high taxonomic classification rates at both the genus and species level, using 3D surface data and advanced quantification techniques, show that the shape of the alveolar arch, corpus at M1 and symphysis can distinguish extant hominid taxa. These findings have implications for assessing the taxonomy of extinct hominid specimens which preserve these mandibular sub-regions. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.BACKGROUND Inflammation is characterized as a defensive response of our body against endogenous or exogenous stimuli. Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress play an important role in the pathogenesis of various disorders such as asthma, cancers, and multiple sclerosis. Recently, diverse pharmacological activities of auraptene, a natural prenyloxycoumarin, were reported. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects of auraptene on human isolated lymphocytes. METHOD The effects of auraptene (10, 30 and 90 μM) and dexamethasone (0.1 mM) were evaluated on cell viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities, and total glutathione content (GSH) as well as the secretion of interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in phytohemagglutinin (PHA)-stimulated human lymphocytes. RESULTS Auraptene (10-90 μM) did not affect lymphocytes' viability after 48 h incubation. PHA markedly elevated ROS, MDA, IL-6, and TNF-α levels, while diminished the GSH content, and CAT and SOD activities in human lymphocytes (p  less then  0.001 for all cases). Treatment with auraptene (10-90 µM) significantly ameliorated ROS, MDA, IL-6, and TNF-α levels, and markedly increased GSH content, and CAT and SOD activities (p  less then   0.5-0.001). This review summarizes recent epidemiologic and toxicologic advances using urinary miRNAs and exosomal miRNAs as novel biomarkers of chemical exposure and of kidney damage and disease. RECENT FINDINGS Urine miRNA biomarkers offer improved stability over protein in stored samples, relative ease of collection and quantitation, and conserved sequence homology across species. Particularly in the case of emergent environmental health threats such as chronic kidney disease of unknown origin, urinary miRNAs hold promise as biomarkers of disease and/or exposure. We present evidence to address scientific knowledge gaps, comment on the relevance of urine-derived miRNAs in environmental health research, and discuss limitations and recommendations for future directions needed to advance miRNA biomarker strategies.
