There exists a diverse range of criteria used in epidemiological studies for the diagnosis of periodontitis. The results from these studies should be evaluated with consideration to the diagnostic criteria used, and this may account for differences between studies especially in some population groups such as pregnant females. The objective is to evaluate the diagnostic criteria used in a variety of epidemiologic studies of periodontitis in pregnant females.
An accuracy study with cross-sectional design was performed out from a database of 671 pregnant females, using six different sets of criteria for the diagnosis of periodontitis. Women were classified for periodontitis, as follows Center for Disease Control and Prevention/American Academy of Periodontology (CDC/AAP, 2012 criterion), the gold standard, Gomes-Filho etal.(2018) criterion, Albandar etal.(2007) criterion, Bassani etal.(2007) criterion, López etal.(2002) criterion, and Nesse etal.(2008) criterion. For comparison amongst the gold standard and the other criteria, sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, and likelihood ratio were determined.
The frequency of periodontitis ranged from 25.0% to 90.2%. The Bassani etal. FTI 277 cell line (2007) criterion was found to be more sensitive among the studies, and thus more suitable for diagnostic screening studies. Gomes-Filho etal.(2018), Albandar etal. (2007), López etal. (2002), and Nesse etal. (2008) criteria were considered more specific, which makes them more useful for studies of periodontitis with the aim of using diagnosis for confirmation of disease.
A variation in the occurrence of periodontitis was observed. The criterion must be chosen according to the research aims and population characteristics.

Although a lot of chalcones have been synthetized and assayed against parasites, the number of structural features known to be involved in this biological property is small. Thus, in the present study, 21 chalcones were synthesized to determine the effect of substituents in the A and B rings on the activity against Leishmania braziliensis, Trypanosoma cruzi, and Plasmodium falciparum. The compounds were active against L. braziliensis in a structure-dependent manner. Only one compound was very active against T. cruzi, but none of them had a significant antiplasmodial activity. The electron-donating substituents in ring B and the hydrogen bonds at C-2' with carbonyl affect the antiparasitic activity.
To (1) develop a framework for forecasting future dental expenditures, using currently available information, and (2) identify relevant research and data gaps such that dental expenditure predictions can continuously be improved in the future.
Our analyses focused on 32 OECD countries. Dependent on the number of predictors, we employed dynamic univariate and multivariate modelling approaches with various model specifications. For univariate modelling, an auto-regressive (AR) dynamic model was employed to incorporate historical trends in dental expenditures. Multivariate modelling took account of historical trends, as well as of relationships between dental expenditures, dental morbidity, economic growth in terms of gross domestic product and demographic changes.
Estimates of dental expenditures varied substantially across different model specifications. Models relying on dental morbidity as one of the predictors performed worst regardless of their specification. Using the best-fitted model specificationnstrates the feasibility and challenges in predicting dental expenditures and can serve as a basis for improvement towards more sustainable and resilient health policy and resource planning. Within the limitations of available data sources, our findings suggest that dental expenditures in OECD countries could increase substantially over the next two decades and vary considerably across countries. For more accurate estimation and a better understanding of determinants of dental expenditures, more comprehensive data on dental spending and dental morbidity are urgently needed.Deep brain stimulation (DBS) depends on precise delivery of electrical current to target tissues. However, the specific brain structures responsible for best outcome are still debated. We applied probabilistic stimulation mapping to a retrospective, multidisorder DBS dataset assembled over 15 years at our institution (ntotal = 482 patients; nParkinson disease = 303; ndystonia = 64; ntremor = 39; ntreatment-resistant depression/anorexia nervosa = 76) to identify the neuroanatomical substrates of optimal clinical response. Using high-resolution structural magnetic resonance imaging and activation volume modeling, probabilistic stimulation maps (PSMs) that delineated areas of above-mean and below-mean response for each patient cohort were generated and defined in terms of their relationships with surrounding anatomical structures. Our results show that overlap between PSMs and individual patients' activation volumes can serve as a guide to predict clinical outcomes, but that this is not the sole determinant of response. In the future, individualized models that incorporate advancements in mapping techniques with patient-specific clinical variables will likely contribute to the optimization of DBS target selection and improved outcomes for patients. ANN NEUROL 2021;89426-443.Rituximab, the first anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody, has dramatically improved outcomes for patients with B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders. Obinutuzumab was developed to potentiate activity and overcome resistance to rituximab. Clinical data suggest that obinutuzumab is superior to rituximab in follicular lymphoma (FL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Yet, it has increased toxicity. This systematic review and meta-analysis compiled all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing obinutuzumab-based regimens with rituximab-based regimens to better assess their toxicity profile. Primary outcome was grade 3-4 infections; secondary outcomes included any adverse events (AE), grade 3-4 AE, drug discontinuation rate, and 3-years mortality. Relative risks (RRs) were estimated and pooled using a fixed-effect model, unless there was significant heterogeneity, in which case a random-effects model was used. Our comprehensive search yielded five RCTs conducted between 2009 and 2014, including 4247 patients. The trials included FL patients, CLL and diffuse large B cell lymphoma.
