Cell-free supernatants from bacterial growth reduced fungal viability in planktonic fungal cells as well as in some conditions for preformed fungal biomass. According to the chemical analysis of the bacterial supernatants, the predominant component is protein. In this work, we verified that bacterial cells and their metabolites, present in the supernatants, can play anti-S. apiospermum and anti-S. boydii roles on fungal growth and viability.
Findings regarding the effects of resistance training (RT) on muscle strength, serum level of IGF-1, and its binding proteins are contradictory. To resolve this contradiction, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effects of RT on muscle strength, the levels of serum IGF-1, and IGF-binding protein-3 in the elderly and aged.
The PubMed, CINAHL, Medline, Google Scholar, and Scopus databases and reference lists of included studies were systematically searched to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing subjects who underwent RT and control individuals up to May 15, 2020. This study was performed following the Preferred Items for Reporting of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. We identified and analyzed 11 eligible trials in this meta-analysis.
Pooled data displayed an overall significant elevation in IGF-1 (mean difference (MD) 17.34 ng/ml; 95% confidence interval (CI) 7.23, 27.46) and in muscle strength in leg press (SMD 0.82; 95% CI 0.30, 1.34) and bench press (SMD 0.82; 95% CI 0.42, 1.23) following RT. By contrast, the pooled estimate showed a non-significant elevation in IGFBP-3 (MD 0.13 ng/ml; 95% CI - 39.39, 39.65). Subgroup analysis revealed that the elevation in serum IGF-1 levels after RT was significant only in women (MD 19.30 ng/ml); moreover, it increased after intervention durations of both > 12 weeks (MD 21.98 ng/ml) and of ≤ 12 weeks (MD 15.31 ng/ml).
RT was associated with elevated muscle strength. Moreover, RT was correlated with increased serum levels of IGF-1 among women and among those who received the training for ≤ 12 weeks or > 12 weeks. Further studies are required to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the impact of RT on IGF-1, IGFBP-3, and muscle strength.

A web-based questionnaire was generated as a link through Google Drive which was sent to approximately 250 dental graduates using Whatsapp messenger. A total of 205 complete responses were received and analyzed. Frequency analysis was done using SPSS software version 21. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) was identified as most common cancer by 48% of the subjects while the stage of oral cancer in which it is most often diagnosed was only responded correctly by 15.5% as advanced stage. Approximately one fourth (25.4%) of the participants performed dental examination to detect cancer routinely in all patients. Half of the study subjects were confident in detecting oral cancer, still majority (70.6%) of the subjects were interested in attending continuing education course on oral cancer in the future. This study revealed that the majority of the new dental clinicians were not having legitimate knowledge regarding oral cancer. Thus, this lacuna in knowledge and skills can be eliminated by conducting workshops and continuing education programs. This may subsequently aid to improve patient care.Telemedicine and remote visits are becoming more and more popular in several medical disciplines, including oncology. The Covid-19 pandemic has enhanced the need to continue to meet patients' ambulatory care necessities ensuring social distancing and limiting the access to clinical facilities. The National Cancer Institute of Aviano, Italy, has recently launched a program called "Doctor @ Home" (D@H). The pillars of the program are the co-production of the oncological care and the co-learning approach, which sees the clinical staff "hand in hand" with patients to maximize the outcome of the care, trying to take advantage of the new tools offered by modern technologies. The continuous development and use of genomic sequencing requires healthcare professionals to constantly integrate these advancements into their clinical practice. There is a documented lack of cancer genomics contents in the teaching and learning programs. We aimed to identify the core competencies in cancer genomics for non-genetic healthcare professionals. We performed a literature review in PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases to retrieve articles published from 2000 to 2018, in English or Italian language. We included articles that reported the competencies for non-genetic healthcare professionals in cancer genomics. A web-based modified Delphi survey was conducted, aiming to define, through consensus, a set of core competencies that should be covered in the curricula. The international expert panel included specialists in genetics, genomics, oncology, and medical specialists. In the literature review, we retrieved nine articles, from which we identified core competencies for general physicians and nurses. The competencies were organized in three main domains knowledge, attitudes, and practical abilities. In the second round of Delphi survey, consensus of 83.3% was reached for the definition of the core competencies. Thirty-seven items were defined as the competencies required for physicians and forty-two items for nurses. Through a consensus-based approach, a set of core competencies in cancer genomics for non-genetic healthcare professionals has been identified. Our findings could benchmark standards for curriculum development and future educational strategies.Recently, the same fish diseases, which have been found in pond farming, have been found in the newly tested largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) system. Bacterial septicemia caused by Aeromonas hydrophila occurs frequently in largemouth bass culture leading to significant economic losses. To investigate the role miRNA in the largemouth bass disease resistance, twelve (2 tissues (spleen and head kidney) × 2 experimental groups (infected and control) × three biological replicates) small RNA libraries were constructed and sequenced with miRNA-seq. A total of 26 differentially expressed miRNAs, 8 upregulated and 18 downregulated, were identified in the spleen, and 19 differentially expressed miRNAs, 9 upregulated and 10 downregulated, were identified in head kidney (fold change ≥ 2 or ≤ 0.5 and P ≤ 0.05). Selleckchem Saracatinib The differentially expressed miRNAs with the largest fold change were selected for target gene prediction using GO and KEGG analysis. Six miRNAs in the spleen and 5 miRNAs in the head kidney were selected. Analysis showed that, of all the immune and metabolic pathways, the FoxO signaling pathway was enriched in both the spleen and head kidney groups.
