Does industry visibility reduce the environmental deterioration in South Africa?
Surface hardening treatment can usually introduce severe grain distortion with a large gradient in the surface layer. It results in mechanical properties being difficult to accurately determine through macroscopic tests due to the non-uniformity of the shot-peened material. In this study, the mechanical behavior of uniformly pre-deformed nickel-based superalloy IN718 was investigated with monotonic tensile tests and instrumented indentation tests. For the shot-peened material, the hardness distribution of the surface hardening layer after shot peening was identified through the instrumented indentation method. According to the stress-strain results of pre-deformed materials, Ramberg-Osgood model parameters could be presented with plastic deformation. Assuming the power-law relationship between hardness and plastic deformation, the plastic deformation distribution along the depth of the surface hardening layer was clarified. Based on the results, a method to identify the stress-strain relationships of hardened material at different depths was established. Finally, the finite-element simulations of the instrumented indentation test considered residual stress and strain hardening were built to verify the method presented herein. The results show that the solution to evaluate the mechanical properties of hardening layer materials in the microscopic zone is feasible, which can provide the foundation for the failure analysis of shot-peened materials. The purpose of this study was to determine relationships between arch stiffness and relative regional impulse during walking, running, and stopping. A total of 61 asymptomatic male subjects volunteered to participate in the study. All were classified by calculating the arch stiffness index using 3-dimensional foot morphological scanning. Plantar pressure distribution data were collected from participants using a Footscan pressure platform during gait tests that included walking, running, and gait termination. The stiff arches group (n = 19) and flexible arches group (n = 17) were included in the following data analysis. The results suggested that subjects with stiffer arches had a larger and smaller percentage of plantar impulse in the forefoot and rearfoot, respectively, than subjects with more flexible arches during walking and running. However, during gait termination, which included planned and unplanned gait stopping, the plantar impulse distribution pattern was found to be reversed. The current findings demonstrate that the distributional changes of plantar loading follow unidirectional transfer between the forefoot and the rearfoot on the plantar longitudinal axis. Moreover, the patterns of impulse distribution are also different based on different gait task mechanisms.Naturally produced by aromatic plants, essential oils (EO) contain a wide range of volatile molecules, including mostly secondary metabolites, which possess several biological activities. Essential oils properties such as antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities are known for a long time and hence widely used in traditional medicines, cosmetics and food industries. However, despite their effects against many phytopathogenic fungi, oomycetes and bacteria as well as weeds, their use in agriculture remains surprisingly scarce. The purpose of the present review is to gather and discuss up-to-date biological activities of EO against weeds, plant pathogenic fungi, oomycetes and bacteria, reported in the scientific literature. Innovative methods, potentially valuable to improve the efficiency and reliability of EO, have been investigated. In particular, their use towards a more sustainable agriculture has been discussed, aiming at encouraging the use of alternative products to substitute synthetic pesticides to control weeds and plant diseases, without significantly affecting crop yields. An overview of the market and the recent advances on the regulation of these products as well as future challenges to promote their development and wider use in disease management programs is described. Because of several recent reviews on EO insecticidal properties, this topic is not covered in the present review. The tripartite motif (TRIM) protein family is an E3 ubiquitin ligase family. Recent reports have indicated that some TRIM proteins have antiviral functions, especially against retroviruses. However, most studies mainly focus on the relationship between TRIM21 and interferon or other antiviral effectors. The effect of TRIM21 on virus-encoded proteins remains unclear. In this study, we screened candidate interacting proteins of HBV DNA polymerase (Pol) by FLAG affinity purification and mass spectrometry assay and identified TRIM21 as its regulator. We used a coimmunoprecipitation (co-IP) assay to demonstrate that TRIM21 interacted with the TP domain of HBV DNA Pol. In addition, TRIM21 promoted the ubiquitination and degradation of HBV DNA Pol using its RING domain, which has E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. Lys260 and Lys283 of HBV DNA Pol were identified as targets for ubiquitination mediated by TRIM21. Finally, we uncovered that TRIM21 degrades HBV DNA Pol to restrict HBV DNA replication, and its SPRY domain is critical for this activity. Taken together, our results indicate that TRIM21 suppresses HBV DNA replication mainly by promoting the ubiquitination of HBV DNA Pol, which may provide a new potential target for the treatment of HBV.eIF4E, the mRNA cap-binding protein, is well known as a general initiation factor allowing for mRNA-ribosome interaction and cap-dependent translation in eukaryotic cells. In this review we focus on eIF4E and its interactors in unicellular organisms such as yeasts and protozoan eukaryotes. Etomoxir order In a first part, we describe eIF4Es from yeast species such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida albicans, and Schizosaccharomyces pombe. In the second part, we will address eIF4E and interactors from parasite unicellular species-trypanosomatids and marine microorganisms-dinoflagellates. We propose that different strategies have evolved during evolution to accommodate cap-dependent translation to differing requirements. These evolutive "adjustments" involve various forms of eIF4E that are not encountered in all microorganismic species. In yeasts, eIF4E interactors, particularly p20 and Eap1 are found exclusively in Saccharomycotina species such as S. cerevisiae and C. albicans. For protozoan parasites of the Trypanosomatidae family beside a unique cap4-structure located at the 5'UTR of all mRNAs, different eIF4Es and eIF4Gs are active depending on the life cycle stage of the parasite.
