We aimed to provide a synthesis and evaluation of psychosocial interventions to prevent suicide and reduce self-harm, as well as alcohol intake, for patients with alcohol problems.

The systematic review was carried out according to the PRISMA guidelines and considered articles published in English from all countries. Terms relating to suicidality and alcohol problems were used to search Medline, EMBASE and PsycINFO databases. Randomized controlled trials of psychosocial interventions targeted for outpatient settings were included.

Six studies with a total of 400 participants were included. Two investigated dialectic behavioural therapy (DBT), one internet-delivered DBT, one dynamic deconstructivist psychotherapy (DDP) and two integrated cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Face to face and online DBT was significantly associated with abstinence and reductions in consumption with only a trend for a reduction in suicide attempts in one study relative to treatment at usual (TAU). DDP yielded significant reve psychosocial intervention to reduce alcohol consumption and suicidal behaviour in adults with problematic alcohol use.Between June 2016 and June 2019, we surveyed 62 Mediterranean geckos, Hemidactylus turcicus, from Abu Rawash, Giza, Egypt, for the presence of endoparasites. In June 2016, we found 3 individuals to be infected with Eimeria lineri. We studied the morphology and inner structures of its sporulated oocysts, and the locations of its intestinal endogenous stages. We also extracted genomic DNA from these sporulated oocysts and successfully sequenced a 632-bp fragment of the 18S rRNA gene. Phylogenetic analyses using this partial sequence allowed us to support previous studies that assigned E. lineri to the genus Acroeimeria. Our consensus sequence was used to query similar 18S rDNA sequences from GenBank, and 14 sequences were selected. The phylogenetic analysis inferred by maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference methods gave similar results, as both separated the sequences into 2 clades (1) a monophyletic group of Goussia species (from fish); and (2) a strongly supported clade that separated 4 Choleoeimeria species from a polyphyletic group of species that clustered A. lineri with 3 other Acroeimeria species and 3 Eimeria species from lizards, including Eimeria tiliquae from Tiliqua rugosa (Gray, 1825), Eimeria tokayae from Gecko gecko (L., 1758), and Eimeria eutropidis from Eutropis macularia (Blyth, 1853). Our study supports the placement of E. lineri into the Acroeimeria and contributes additional life history information toward understanding the evolutionary origin of the Eimeria-like species that have sporocysts without Stieda bodies in their oocysts and that infect saurian reptiles. We also support the concept that several traits (morphological, endogenous, and gene sequences) are both necessary and important for authors to include when making generic reassignments within the eimeriid coccidia.
The mechanisms underlying headaches attributed to hypoxia are poorly known. The activation of spinal trigeminal neurons with meningeal afferent input is believed to be responsible for the generation of headaches. In the caudal spinal trigeminal nucleus of anaesthetized and ventilated rats, the spontaneous firing of neurons with input from the exposed parietal dura mater and the activity evoked by mechanical stimuli to the dura and the adjacent periosteum were recorded, whereas the O2 fraction of the ventilation gas was stepwise reduced by omitting O2 and adding nitrogen. The expiratory CO2 level, the arterial pressure, the pulse rate, and the peripheral O2 saturation (SpO2) were registered. The meningeal blood flow was recorded using laser Doppler flowmetry; video imaging was used to measure the diameter of dural and medullary arteries. Using positron emission tomography, we recently demonstrated elevated brain levels of the 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO), a glial activation marker, in chronic low back pain (cLBP) patients, compared to healthy controls (HCs). Here, we first sought to replicate the original findings in an independent cohort (15 cLBP, 37.8 ± 12.5 y/o; 18 HC, 48.2 ± 12.8 y/o). We then trained random forest machine learning algorithms based on TSPO imaging features combining discovery and replication cohorts (totaling 25 cLBP, 42.4 ± 13.2 y/o; 27 HC, 48.9 ± 12.6 y/o), to explore whether image features other than the mean contain meaningful information that might contribute to the discrimination of cLBP patients and HC. Feature importance was ranked using SHapley Additive exPlanations values, and the classification performance (in terms of area under the curve values) of classifiers containing only the mean, other features, or all features was compared using the DeLong test. Both region-of-interest and voxelwise analyses reOur observations suggest that thalamic neuroinflammatory signal is a reproducible and discriminating feature for cLBP, further supporting a role for glial activation in human cLBP, and the exploration of neuroinflammation as a therapeutic target for chronic pain. This work further shows that TSPO signal contains a richness of information that the simple mean might fail to capture completely.
