Materials and Methods Eight consecutive male patients (median age 78 years) scheduled for elective EVAS were included in the prospective study (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT02349100). FDG-PET/CT scans were performed in all patients before the procedure and 6 weeks after EVAS. The abdominal aorta was analyzed in 4 regions suprarenal, infrarenal neck, aneurysm sac, and iliac. The following parameters were obtained for each region standard uptake value (SUV), tissue to background ratio (TBR), and visual examination of FDG uptake to ascertain its distribution. Demographic data were obtained from medical files and scored based on reporting standards. Results Visual examination showed no difference between pre- and postprocedure FDG uptake, which was homogenous. In the suprarenal region no significant pre- and postprocedure differences were observed for the SUV and TBR parameters. The infrarenal neck region showed a significant decrease in the SUV and no significant decrease in the TBR. The aneurysm sac and iliac regions both showed a significant decrease in SUV and TBR between the pre- and postprocedure scans. Conclusion Physiological FDG uptake after EVAS was stable or decreased with regard to the preprocedure measurements. Future research is needed to assess the applicability and cutoff values of FDG-PET/CT scanning to detect endograft infection after EVAS.Objectives Though the pathophysiology underlying schizophrenia (SCZ) and bipolar disorder (BD) is not fully understood, immune function may be dysregulated, with microglia, the brain's resident immune cells, implicated in this process. Signaling between the neuronal chemokine fractalkine (CX3CL1) and its microglial receptor CX3CR1 facilitates neuron-microglia interactions, influencing microglial activation and synaptic function. As such, alterations in fractalkine signaling may contribute to immune and synaptic alterations observed in SCZ and BD.Methods Protein and mRNA expression of fractalkine, CX3CR1, and a disintegrin and metalloproteinase 10 (ADAM10), a sheddase that cleaves fractalkine, were quantified in postmortem frontal cortex from individuals with SCZ (n = 35), BD (n = 34), and matched controls (n = 35) using immunoblotting and droplet digital PCR. In addition, the relationship between fractalkine pathway members and levels of the pre-synaptic protein SNAP-25 was examined.Results Fractalkine protein levels were significantly lower in SCZ relative to controls. Expression of members of the fractalkine signaling pathway was unchanged in BD. CX3CR1 protein levels were significantly correlated with SNAP-25 levels.Conclusions The observed deficit in fractalkine protein levels in SCZ is consistent with impaired neuron-microglia crosstalk in this disorder. Patient demographics, defect size and characteristics, and collagen matrix implant dimensions were evaluated. Postoperative course and complications were also reviewed.Results The dermal matrix sandwich graft was performed in 13 cases (12 patients). Average horizontal marginal defect width was 11.7 mm (range 6-16 mm). Mean width of the implanted dermal matrix was 7.7 mm (range 5-9 mm). There were no instances of infection or graft failure. The reconstructed lid had an excellent marginal contour in 11 cases (84.6%), while 2 had minimal irregularities. All patients had an excellent thickness of the reconstructed margin. One patient (7.7%) required cauterization of overgrown marginal conjunctiva after surgery. Two patients (15.4%) experienced symptomatic trichiasis, requiring electrolysis (n = 1) and epilation (n = 1).Conclusions The dermal matrix sandwich graft is an effective method for marginal defect repair when the remaining conjunctiva and skin are sufficient to develop the necessary flaps. While the resolution of edema and erythema may take several months, an excellent final result is achieved in the majority of cases. Complications are mild, relatively uncommon, and similar to those encountered in other reconstructive procedures.
