The results obtained show that the PAL activity and the phenolic compound content were significantly stimulated with 1 mg.mL-1 of FSSA and BBSA; after 1 day of treatment with FSSA, and after 12 hours of treatment with BBSA. These results show clearly those alginates extracted from Moroccan brown algae induced in date palm roots the stimulation of natural defense mechanisms. The microwave (MW)-assisted direct esterification of phenyl-H-phosphinic acid, transesterification of the alkyl phenyl-H-phosphinates so obtained, and the similar reaction of dibenzyl phosphite (DBP) were investigated in detail, and the batch accomplishments were translated into a continuous flow operation that, after optimization of the parameters, such as temperature and flow rate, proved to be more productive. Alcoholysis of DBP is a two-step process involving an intermediate phosphite with two different alkoxy groups. The latter species are of synthetic interest, as precursors for optically active reagents.Porphyromonas gingivalis infection is one of the causes of implant failures, which can lead to peri-implantitis. Implant surface roughness is reportedly related strongly to P. gingivalis adhesion, which can lead to peri-implantitis and, later, cell adhesion. Our aim was to evaluate the effects of Er,CrYSGG laser on titanium (Ti) disc surfaces and its interaction with bacterial adhesion and fibroblast viability. Ti discs underwent two treatments autoclaving (control) and erbium, chromium-doped yttrium scandium gallium garnet (Er,CrYSGG) laser treatment (test). Ti disc surfaces were examined with scanning electronic microscope (SEM), Energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The surface roughness same as wettability were also investigated. Fibroblast viability was assessed with the water-soluble tetrazolium 1 (WST-1) test, and osteoblast differentiation was assessed with the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) assay. Bacterial structure and colony formation were detected with scanning electron microscopy and Gram stain. check details In comparison to control discs, the test discs showed smoother surfaces, with 0.25-µm decrease in surface roughness (p less then 0.05); lower P. gingivalis adhesion (p less then 0.01); less P. gingivalis colonization (p less then 0.05); and increased fibroblast viability and osteoblast differentiation (p less then 0.05). Er,CrYSGG laser treatment improved disc surfaces by making them slightly smoother, which reduced P. gingivalis adhesion and increased fibroblast viability and osteoblast differentiation. Er,CrYSGG laser treatment can be considered a good option for managing peri-implantitis. Further investigations of laser-assisted therapy are necessary for better guidelines in the treatment of peri-implantitis.Perfume encapsulates are widely used in commercial products to control the kinetic release of odorant molecules, increase storage stability and/or improve deposition on different substrates. In most of the cases, they consist of core-shell polymeric microcapsules that contain fragrance molecules. A current challenge is to design and produce polymeric materials for encapsulation that are both resistant and non-persistent. The selection of such eco-friendly formulations is linked to a deep understanding of the polymeric material used for encapsulation and its biodegradation profile. To collect this information, pure samples of capsule shells are needed. In this article we present an innovative quantification method for residual volatiles based on pyrolysis-GC-MS to enable validation of sample quality prior to further testing. The presented analytical method also led to the development of a robust and comprehensive purification protocol for polymers from commercial samples. Standard techniques are not suited for this kind of measurement due to the non-covalent embedding of volatiles in the 3D structure of the polymers. We demonstrated the confounding impact of residual volatiles on the estimated biodegradability of fragrance encapsulates.Histone deacetylases (HDACs) have been proved to be promising targets for the treatment of cancer, and five histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACis) have been approved on the market for the treatment of different lymphomas. In our previous work, we designed a series of novel coumarin-containing hydroxamate HDACis, among which compounds 6 and 7 displayed promising activities against tumor growth. Based on a molecular docking study, we further developed 26 additional analogues with the aim to improve activity of designed compounds. Several of these new derivatives not only showed excellent HDAC1 inhibitory effects, but also displayed significant growth inhibitory activities against four human cancer cell lines. Representative compounds, 13a and 13c, showed potent anti-proliferative activities against solid tumor cell lines with IC50 values of 0.36-2.91 M and low cytotoxicity against Beas-2B and L-02 normal cells. Immunoblot analysis revealed that 13a and 13c dose-dependently increased the acetylation of histone H3 and H4. Importantly, the two compounds displayed much better anti-metastatic effects than SAHA against the MDA-MB-231 cell line. Moreover, 13a and 13c arrested MDA-MB-231 cells at G2/M phase and induced MDA-MB-231 cell apoptosis. Finally, the molecular docking study rationalized the high potency of compound 13c.The impacts of hurricane-related disasters in agricultural communities include extensive losses of fields, orchards, and livestock, the recovery of which could span many years. Agricultural Extension Agents (EAs) try to manage and mitigate these losses, while simultaneously overseeing emergency shelter operations. These non-professional emergency responders face numerous potential stressors, the outcomes of which are minimally known. This study examined the short- and long-term medical and behavioral outcome of 36 University of Florida Agricultural Extension Agents within two months and one year after Hurricane Irma, Florida, USA, taking into consideration personal/home and work-related hurricane impacts. Regression analyses indicated that combined home and work hurricane impacts were associated with greater anxiety, depression, and medical symptoms controlling for age and number of prior hurricane experiences within two months of landfall. One year later, depression symptoms increased as well as the use of negative disengagement coping strategies for which stability of the work environment was protective.
