[The usage of ultrasound image in noninvasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Are we able to entirely abandon fluoroscopy?]
This study presents the results obtained for the optimization of the mineralization of losartan (LOS) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) using the photo-Fenton process with a UV-Vis LED. Experimental design optimization employing a Doehlert matrix and a global desirability function enabled simultaneous evaluation of multiple responses, with factor fitting providing the best conditions that maximized the mineralization efficiency Fe2+ at 10 mg L-1 and H2O2 at 100 mg L-1. High rates of mineralization of LOS and HCTZ were obtained, with dissolved organic carbon (DOC); removal of almost 75% after 90 min was observed for both pharmaceuticals. The kinetic model showed that the mineralization followed two regimes in the first minutes, with a fast progression followed by slower activity. The energy consumption calculated for mineralization of LOS and HCTZ at a concentration of 20 mg L-1 using the UV-Vis LED-assisted photo-Fenton process, at 60 min, was 130 kWh m-3. The desirability function provides a useful tool for finding optimal experimental conditions for the treatment of effluents with different characteristics. The UV-Vis LED was shown to be a good light source in the photo-Fenton process.Cement industries produce millions of tons of by-products each year, including dust, toxic gases, and heavy metals, which pose respiratory health hazards and environmental pollution. Although several literatures have investigated environmental impact in cement factories, the extent to which these assessments affect the population has received limited responsiveness. This study investigates this gap by examining the environmental impacts of the Ghayen Cement Industry on environmental components and public health. Using a mathematical matrix, it found that the effect of the cement factory on the environment produced four categories of significant effects L, low; M, medium; H, high; and VH, very high. Results in terms of basic criteria revealed 0.70 of the most destructive effect was related to water pollution. Regarding the interaction effect of project activities (basic and complimentary basic criteria) on environmental components, the highest destructive effect was excavation and land deformation while the lowest effect was on public health. The study also found out that the use of compensation factors reduced the negative effect of the project on the environment. The use of common methods of environmental improvement such as erosion control, proper location of facilities, and the creation of green spaces is essential to mitigate the impact of projects on the environment. This follow-up study was conducted over 30 years in a cadmium-polluted area of Japan. Urinary cadmium (U-Cd) concentration decreased by nearly half from 1986 to 2008 in men and women. However, it increased from 2008 to 2014 and maintained similar levels in 2016. Because renal atrophy may induce an increase in U-Cd, kidney volumes were determined using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans in 2018. Based on the MRI results, we divided the participants into two groups, namely the normal group (n = 6, three men and three women) and the lesion group (n = 6, three men and three women). The level of urinary N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase/creatinine (U-NAG/Cr) in the lesion group was significantly higher than in the normal group. The level of serum alkaline phosphatase (Al-P) was positively associated with U-Cd. Age and renal cortex volumes showed significantly negative associations. However, U-Cd and renal cortex and kidney volumes showed no significant associations. These results suggest that U-NAG and serum Al-P were sensitive biomarkers to reflect renal tubular dysfunction and bone damage caused by cadmium poisoning. Mardepodect supplier Individuals chronically exposed to Cd should be observed carefully, due to the increased effect of aging on renal cortex volumes.Cadmium (Cd) pollution is a prominent environment problem, and great interests have been developed towards the molecular mechanism of Cd accumulation in plants. In this study, we conducted combined transcriptomic, proteomic and biochemical approaches to explore the detoxification of a Cd-hyperaccumulating turnip landrace exposed to 5 μM (T5) and 25 μM (T25) Cd treatments. A total of 1090 and 2111 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 161 and 303 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified in turnips under T5 and T25, respectively. However, poor correlations were observed in expression changes between mRNA and protein levels. The enriched KEGG pathways of DEGs with a high proportion (> 80%) of upregulated genes were focused on the flavonoid biosynthesis, sulphur metabolism and glucosinolate biosynthesis pathways, whereas those of DEPs were enriched on the glutathione metabolism pathway. This result suggests that these pathways contribute to Cd detoxification in turnips. Furthermore, induced antioxidant enzymes, heat stock proteins and stimulated protein acetylation modification seemed to play important roles in Cd tolerance in turnips. In addition, several metal transporters were found responsible for the Cd accumulation capacity of turnips. This study may serve as a basis for breeding low-Cd-accumulating vegetables for foodstuff or high-Cd-abstracting plants for phytoremediation.Spirulina is a multicellular cyanobacterium that is consumed as a dietary supplement. The content of trace elements (B, Ba, Li, Ni, Sr, V) and toxic metals (Al, Cd, Pb) was determined in 24 spirulina samples marketed in two different formulations (tablets and powder) by ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry). The highest element concentration was found in the powder presentation, except for Li. The powder presentation element levels (mg/kg dry weight) were Al (28.1), Sr (10.3), B (1.73), Li (1.47), Ba (1.25), Ni (0.63), Pb (88.1 μg/kg dw), Cd (37.2 μg/kg dw), and V (22.9 μg/kg dw). Considering an adult with a body weight of 68.48 kg and the posology guidelines (14 tablespoons per week), the consumption of powdered spirulina contributes greatly to the Al intake by 2.04% of its TWI (tolerable weekly intake) set at 1 mg/kg body weight/week, followed by Cd with 1.05% of its TWI set at 2.5 μg/kg bw/week. Pb intake represents 1.05% of the BMDL (benchmark dose) level associated with nephrotoxicity and 0.
