Category A1 Rules For Motorcyclists

The rules of category A1 are applicable to those who want to ride small motorcycles. These motorcycles have a maximum capacity of 35 kW. They cannot be derived directly from vehicles that have more than twice their power.

Open category drone operations are divided into three subcategories: A1 to A3. You can fly drones using the class label C0 or A1 within the A1 subcategory (flying over people) until January 2024.

A1

Category A1 is one of the three EASA drone categories and applies to aircraft that have a maximum take-off mass (MTOM) of up to 25 kilograms. A2

A2 allows drones that are transitional, which are not yet CE-marked, but have been modified to reduce collision risk with humans. These drones are only permitted to fly in A2 up until the year 2022's end. After this, they will have to adhere to the A3 rules.

The A1 and A2 categories will help you become a confident and safe motorcyclist. The number of lessons you will have to complete will depend on your skill and progress, but a predetermined number of special rides must be taken. A3

This category allows flights with drones that have the maximum mass for take-off of up to 25 kg. There are 'transitional arrangements' that allow legacy drones, which are not certified, to be operated in the categories A1 and/or A2 for two years following the introduction of the new EU regulations. Legacy drones must not be flown over people and must be equipped with an A2 CofC.

To operate a drone within this category, you need to first pass the online flyer identification test and then complete a theory exam. You also need to prove that you have some practical understanding of your drone and then submit a written proof of competency. These requirements are similar to the driving license model in that a driver who first obtains their licence for a lower category vehicle is then able to move on to the higher category.

A4

The DOH is currently preparing specific guidelines to be used in category A4. These guidelines will be in line with other operations and will include information such as the number of dressings that are changed every day. These guidelines will be presented to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infections, (IATF-EID) and the DOH National Immunization Technical Advisory Group. The IATF-EID and the DOH-National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization will be reviewing and approving these guidelines prior to their being finalized.

In this category, drones sporting the class identification labels C0 and C1 are permitted to fly within a minimum distance of 50 metres from uninvolved people. This is a category with low risk, but strict precautions are still required to prevent incidents. Drones classified as A1 or A2 must pass an additional theoretical knowledge test to be able to operate in this subcategory.

This test is designed to assess your knowledge of the additional risks that are associated with flying drones near people. A successful passing of the test earns the issuance of a certificate of competency for this subcategory. The pilot must also maintain a minimum distance of 30 metres from an uninvolved person or 5 metres if flying in a slow-flying mode.

You will need to take some time to pass the theory test, and then you must pass the practical test. It is contingent on your age, capabilities and learning progress. But, at least 12 lessons of 90 minutes are required to be completed.
