Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been explored as the third biologically gasotransmitter regulating plant adaptation response, however, its possible mechanisms on drought tolerance are not completely clear yet. Here, we discovered that during dehydration treatment, the activities of L-cysteine desulfhydrase (LCD), the important synthetic enzymes of H2S in rice, was enhanced in rice seedling leaves, further leading to continuous increasing of endogenous H2S production. Pretreatment with NaHS, a well-known H2S donor, significantly improved rice performance under drought stress. The beneficial roles of NaHS were confirmed by the alleviation of lipid peroxidation, and the activation of antioxidant defence system. Importantly, besides repressing its degradation pathway, NaHS pretreatment promoted ABA de-novo synthesis as well. This resulted in an increase of ABA accumulation and the expression of downstream ABA-responsive genes in rice seedling upon drought stress. Together, the present study illustrated that H2S improve drought tolerance via reestablishing redox homeostasis and triggering ABA signaling.Insect pests such as Anticarsia gemmatalis cause defoliation and yield losses. Soybean breeding has obtained resistant genotypes, however the mechanism remains unknown. Studies indicated the presence of deterrents compounds in the resistant genotype IAC17, and their leaf metabolite profiles were compared to the susceptible genotype UFV105, which was elicited or not by caterpillar infestation. WRKY transcription factors have specific roles in plant multiple abiotic stress responses. However, it is still not clear that the molecular mechanisms of WRKYs involve in drought tolerance in yellowhorn. In this study, we isolated a drought-induced group I WRKY gene from yellowhorn, designated as XsWRKY20. Expression of XsWRKY20 was strongly induced by PEG6000, NaCl, ABA and SA. Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) of XsWRKY20 reduced tolerance to drought stress in yellowhorn, as determined through physiological analyses of POD activity, SOD activity and proline content. This susceptibility was coupled with decreased expression of stress-related genes. In contrast, overexpression of XsWRKY20 in tobacco notably improved drought tolerance. Compared with the WT plants, the XsWRKY20-transgenic lines exhibited lower ROS and MDA content and higher antioxidant enzyme activity and proline content after drought treatment. Moreover, overexpression of XsWRKY20 enhanced the expression of several genes associated with encoding these antioxidant enzymes, proline biosynthesis and ABA signaling pathway. Taken together, XsWRKY20 functions as a positive regulator contributing to drought stress tolerance through either ROS homeostasis by antioxidant systems or ABA-dependent/independent gene expression pathway.Vesicular trichomes play a key role in excluding toxic ions from some halophyte species, preventing the essential processes and functions of plants from being altered. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the influence of these structures on Atriplex nummularia irrigated using waters with three levels of osmotic potential (-0.1, -1.4 and -2.7 MPa), formulated with NaCl in plants with vesicular trichomes and plants with partial removal of trichomes. The experiment was conducted in a protected environment and plants were evaluated for physiological parameters (water, osmotic and pressure potentials, relative water content, osmotic adjustment, pressure-volume curve, gas exchange), electrolyte leakage, lipid peroxidation and enzymatic activity (superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, catalase). The results obtained made it possible to identify the strong contribution of vesicular trichomes to physiological and biochemical parameters, with indication of cell wall stiffening and maintenance of turgor. Furthermore, the evaluation of the osmotic potentials obtained in the study suggests that the contribution of vesicular trichomes to the salinity tolerance of the species is greater than that of osmotic adjustment. Furthermore, gas exchange results suggest that the presence of trichomes was able to regulate stomatal processes so that the plant maintains its photosynthetic performance. Evaluation of electrolyte leakage, together with the increase in malondialdehyde content, showed that the maintenance of trichomes reduces the probability of oxidative stress. The activity of antioxidant enzymes was efficient in eliminating reactive oxygen species, especially the activity of ascorbate peroxidase, which stood out in terms of hydrogen peroxide detoxification.
Good sleep is a growing public health focus. Given the multidimensional nature of sleep, it is of interest to examine population sleep profiles and determine sociodemographic and lifestyle correlates.

This study uses actigraphy-measured sleep data collected between February 2015 and March 2016 in the Child Health CheckPoint study. Participants wore actigraphy monitors (GENEActiv Original, Cambs, UK) on their non-dominant wrist for seven days and sleep characteristics (duration, efficiency, timing, and variability) were derived from raw actigraphy data. Sleep profiles of 1043 Australian children aged 11-12 years and their parents were determined using K-means cluster analysis. The association between cluster membership and potential sociodemographic and lifestyle correlates were assessed using Generalised Estimating Equations, adjusting for geographic clustering.

Four sleep profiles were identified Short sleepers, Late to bed, Long sleepers, and Overall good sleepers. Compared to Overall good sleepers, Late to bed cluster were of lower socioeconomic position and had the least favourable diet and activity patterns.
