Although nanosizing of multiphase pseudocapacitive nanomaterials could dramatically improve their electrochemical properties, a proper way to simultaneously control both the size and the phase of the pseudocapacitive materials is still elusive. Herein, we employed a commercial CO2 laser engraver to do the transformation of a metal-organic framework (MOF-74(Ni)) into size-controlled Ni nanoparticles (4-12 nm) in porous carbon. The produced Ni@carbon hybrid showed the best specific capacitance of 925 F/g with excellent cycling stability when the particle size is 5.5 nm. We found that the highly redox-active α-Ni(OH)2 is more predominantly formed than the less redox-active β-Ni(OH)2 as the particle size becomes smaller. Our results substantiate that various MOFs could be created into high-performance pseudocapacitive materials with the controlled size and phase. It is believed that the laser-based synthesis could also serve as a powerful tool for the discovery of new MOF-derived materials in the field of energy storage and catalysis.Silicon is one of the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries due to its high theoretical capacity and low cost. However, significant capacity fading caused by severe structural degradation during cycling limits its practical implication. To overcome this barrier, we design a covalently bonded nanocomposite of silicon and poly(vinyl alcohol) (Si-PVA) by high-energy ball-milling of a mixture of micron-sized Si and PVA. The obtained Si nanoparticles are wrapped by resilient PVA coatings that covalently bond to the Si particles. In such nanostructures, the soft PVA coatings can accommodate the volume change of the Si particles during repeated lithiation and delithiation. Simultaneously, as formed covalent bonds enhance the mechanical strength of the coatings. Due to the significantly improved structural stability, the Si-PVA composite delivers a lifespan of 100 cycles with a high capacity of 1526 mAh g-1. In addition, a high initial Coulombic efficiency of over 86% and an average value of 99.2% in subsequent cycles can be achieved. This reactive ball-milling strategy provides a low-cost and scalable route to fabricate high-performance anode materials.Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic and progressive hyperglycemic condition. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP1) is an incretin secreted from pancreatic β-cells and helps to produce insulin to balance the blood glucose level without the risk of hypoglycemia. However, the therapeutic application of GLP1 is limited by its intrinsic short half-life and rapid metabolic clearance in the body. To enhance the antidiabetic effect of GLP1, we designed a human cysteine-modified IgG1-Fc antibody-mediated oral gene delivery vehicle, which helps to produce GLP1 sustainably in the target site with the help of increased half-life of the Fc-conjugated nanocarrier, protects GLP1 from acidic and enzymatic degradation in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, uptakes and transports the GLP1 formulation through the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn), and helps to release the GLP1 gene in the intestine. Our formulation could reduce the blood glucose from about an average of 320 mg/dL (hyperglycemic) to 150 mg/dL (normal blood glucose concentration) in diabetic mice, which is about 50% reduction of the total blood glucose concentration. GLP1 (500 μg) complexed with the IgG1-Fc carrier was proven to be the optimal dose for a complete reduction of hyperglycemic conditions in diabetic mice. A significant amount of insulin production and the presence of GLP1 peptide were observed in the pancreatic islets of oral GLP1 formulation-treated diabetic mice in immunohistochemistry analysis compared to nontreated diabetic mice. The orally given formulation was completely nontoxic according to the histopathology analysis of mice organ tissues, and no mice death was observed. Our antibody-mediated oral gene delivery system is a promising tool for various oral therapeutic gene delivery applications to treat diseases like diabetes. The accurate magnetoresistance (MR) measurement of individual nanostructures is essential and important for either the enrichment of fundamental knowledge of the magnetotransport mechanism or the facilitation of desired design of magnetic nanostructures for various technological applications. Herein, we report a deep investigation on the magnetotransport mechanism of a single CoCu/Cu multilayered nanowire via direct MR measurement using our invented magnetotransport instrument in situ scanning electron microscope. Off-axis electron holography experiments united with micromagnetic simulation prove that the CoCu layers in CoCu/Cu multilayered nanowires form a single-domain structure, in which the alignment of magnetic moments is mainly determined by shape anisotropy. The MR of the single CoCu/Cu multilayered nanowire is measured to be only 1.14% when the varied external field is applied along the nanowire length axis, which matches with the theoretical prediction of the granular film model. Density functional theory calculations further disclose that spin-dependent scattering at the interface between magnetic and nonmagnetic layers is responsible for the intrinsic magnetotransport mechanism.Inkjet printing method is one of the most effective ways for fabricating large-area perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, because ink crystallizes rapidly during printing, the printed perovskite film is discontinuous with increasing defects. SN-011 nmr It severely restricts the application of the inkjet printing technology to the fabrication of perovskite photovoltaic devices. Here, we designed a new mixed-cation perovskite ink system that can controllably retard the crystallization rate of perovskite. In this new ink system, the printing solvent is composed of n-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP) and dimethyl formamide (DMF), and PbX2 is replaced by PbX2-DMSO (X = Br, I) complex as a printing precursor to create a high-quality perovskite layer. Accordingly, the printed Cs0.05MA0.14FA0.81PbI2.55Br0.45 perovskite film exhibited high homogeneity with a large grain size (over 500 nm). Besides, the printed perovskite film possessed lower defects with improved carrier lifetime compared to the control sample. Combining these advantages, the printed PSC delivers decent power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 19.
