The main objective of this study is to investigate the interconnection between Driving style, Traffic locus of control, and the Impulsivity in Bulgarian drivers. A research is conducted in order to examine the relations between the constructs in Bulgarian sample (n = 456, male = 204; female = 252; average age = 37). The results show that there are significant correlations between impulsivity and all driving styles. Positive correlations were found with the maladaptive driving styles, while the adaptive driving style was negatively associated with impulsivity. Correlations between the traffic locus of control and the driving styles were also found. These results provide a very good opportunity for further research in this area as well as for the development of prevention and training programs in the field of road safety.Popliteal venous aneurysms are rare vascular disorders associated with a high risk of pulmonary embolism. We present the case of a 56-year-old woman hospitalized for a third episode of unprovoked pulmonary embolism. However, the iHDE algorithm does not consider the changes in pedestrian movement modes, and it can deteriorate when a pedestrian walks along a straight path without a pre-defined dominant direction. To solve these two problems, we propose enhanced heuristic drift elimination (eHDE) with an adaptive zero-velocity update (AZUPT) algorithm and novel heading correction algorithm. The relationships between the magnitude peaks of the y-axis angular rate and the detection thresholds were established only using the readings of the three-axis accelerometer and the three-axis gyroscopic, and a mechanism for constructing temporary dominant directions in real time was introduced. Real experiments were performed and the results showed that the proposed algorithm can improve the still-phase detection accuracy of a pedestrian at different movement motions and outperforms the iHDE algorithm in complex paths with many straight features.INTRODUCTION Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) is a potent biological toxin and powerful therapeutic tool for a growing number of clinical orofacial applications. BoNT relaxes striated muscle by inhibiting acetylcholine's release from presynaptic nerve terminals, blocking the neuromuscular junction. It also has an antinociceptive effect on sensory nerve endings, where BoNT and acetylcholine are transported axonally to the central nervous system. In dentistry, controlled clinical trials have demonstrated BoNT's efficiency in pathologies such as bruxism, facial paralysis, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, neuropathic pain, sialorrhea, dystonia and more. AIM This study's aim was to conduct a systematic literature review to assess the most recent high-level clinical evidence for BoNT's efficacy and for various protocols (the toxin used, dilution, dosage and infiltration sites) used in several orofacial pathologies. MATERIALS AND METHODS We systematically searched the MedLine database for research papers publishee and effective treatment for the reviewed pathologies.The paper deals with theoretical and experimental studies for the development of a self-powered structural health monitoring (SHM) system using macro-fiber composite (MFC) patches. The basic idea is to integrate the actuation, sensing, and energy harvesting capabilities of the MFC patches in a SHM system operating in different regimes. As an example, during flight, under the effects of normal structural vibrations, the patches can work as energy harvesters by maintaining or restoring the battery charge of the stand-by SHM electronic board; on the other hand, if relevant/abnormal loadings are applied, or if local faults produce a noticeable stiffness variation of the monitored component, the patches can act as sensors for the power-up SHM board. During maintenance, the patches can then work as actuators, to stress the structure with pre-defined load profiles, as well as sensors, to monitor the structural response. In this paper, the investigation, based on the electromechanical impedance technique, is carried out on a system prototype made of a cantilevered composite laminate with six MFC patches. A high-fidelity nonlinear model of the system, including the piezoelectric hysteresis of the patches and three vibration modes of the laminate beam, is presented and validated with experiments. The results support the potential feasibility of the system, pointing out that the energy storage can be used for recharging a 3V-65mAh Li-ion battery, suitable for low-power electronic boards. The model is finally used to characterize a condition-monitoring algorithm in terms of false alarms rejection and vulnerability to dormant faults, by simulating built-in tests to be performed during maintenance.Pannexin 1 (Panx1) is a ubiquitously expressed hexameric integral membrane protein known to function as an adenosine triphosphate (ATP) release channel. Panx1 proteins exist in unglycosylated core form (Gly0). They undergo critical post-translational modifications forming the high mannose glycosylation state (Gly1) in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the complex glycosylation state (Gly2) in the Golgi apparatus. The regulation of transition from the ER to the cell membrane is not fully understood. Using site-specific mutagenesis, dye uptake assays, and interaction testing, we identified two conserved aromatic residues, Trp123 and Tyr205, in the transmembrane domains 2 and 3 of the zebrafish panx1a protein. Results suggest that both residues primarily govern the assembly of panx1a subunits into channels, with mutant proteins failing to interact. The results provide insight into a mechanism enabling regulation of Panx1 oligomerization, glycosylation, and trafficking.
