salmonis proteins at 48 h of co-culture. These results show a potential communication between antigen-presenting-like cells and lymphocyte in the spleen, which could be induced towards a Treg phenotype.Measles is a very contagious infectious disease, and vaccination is the only medical aid to counter the spread of the infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of vaccination schedule and type of vaccine, number of doses, and sex on the immune response. In a population of Italian medical students (8497 individuals born after 1980 with certificate of vaccination and quantitative measurement of antibodies against measles), the prevalence of positive antibodies to measles and antibody titer was measured. Vaccination schedule such as number of doses and vaccine type (measles alone or combined as measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)) and sex were the variables considered to influence the immune response. The vaccination schedule depends on the year of birth students born before 1990 were prevalently vaccinated once and with measles vaccine alone (not as MMR). One dose of vaccine induces a significantly (p less then 0.0001) higher positive response and antibody titer than two doses, in particular when measles alone is used (p less then 0.0001). Females have a significantly higher percentage of positive response (p = 0.0001) than males but only when the MMR formulation was used. Multiple linear regression confirms that sex significantly influences antibody titer when only MMR is used, after one (p = 0.0002) or two (p = 0.0060) doses. In conclusion, vaccination schedule and, partially, sex influence immune response to measles vaccination. Most notably, the measles vaccine alone (one dose) is more effective than one and two doses of MMR.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) screening is effective for early detection of CRC, particularly for males aged 50 or above. However, the rate of participation in the screening program is still low. This study was to examine knowledge, attitudes, and practice toward CRC and its screening and explored their associated factors.
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in a convenience sample of adults aged 50-75 years without cognitive problems, who were recruited at multi-elderly centers in Hong Kong. A questionnaire was used to measure knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) towards CRC and its screening.
The total of 300 Chinese people included 147 (49.0%) males with a mean age of 58.72 (SD 6.91) years old. This study population had good knowledge and practice, as well as very good attitudes toward CRC and its screening. The multivariate regression results showed that receiving insurance coverage was the most significant factor positively associated with knowledge, attitudes, and practice. Other than dequate financial support from health insurance or subsidies from the government can increase an individual's willingness to participate in the CRC screening, particularly those at a low socioeconomic level. Educational programs should be promoted to enhance knowledge about CRC and its screening, especially to those who attained lower education levels. The interplay between shrimp immune system, its environment, and microbiota contributes to the organism's homeostasis and optimal production. The metagenomic composition is typically studied using 16S rDNA profiling by clustering amplicon sequences into operational taxonomic units (OTUs) and, more recently, amplicon sequence variants (ASVs). Establish the compatibility of the taxonomy, α, and β diversity described by both methods is necessary to compare past and future shrimp microbiota studies. Here, we used identical sequences to survey the V3 16S hypervariable-region using 97% and 99% OTUs and ASVs to assess the hepatopancreas and intestine microbiota of L. vannamei from two ponds under standardized rearing conditions. We found that applying filters to retain clusters >0.1% of the total abundance per sample enabled a consistent taxonomy comparison while preserving >94% of the total reads. see more The three sets turned comparable at the family level, whereas the 97% identity OTU set produced divergent genus and species profiles. Interestingly, the detection of organ and pond variations was robust to the clustering method's choice, producing comparable α and β-diversity profiles. For comparisons on shrimp microbiota between past and future studies, we strongly recommend that ASVs be compared at the family level to 97% identity OTUs or use 99% identity OTUs, both using tailored frequency filters.Deoxynivalenol (DON) is one of the most common mycotoxins in grains, causing gastrointestinal inflammation, neurotoxicity, hepatotoxicity and embryotoxicity, even at a low quantity. In this study, a facile electrochemical aptasensor was established for the rapid and sensitive determination of DON based on a multifunctional N-doped Cu-metallic organic framework (N-Cu-MOF) nanomaterial. The N-Cu-MOF, with a large specific surface area and good electrical conductivity, served not only as an optimal electrical signal probe but also as an effective supporting substrate for stabilizing aptamers through the interactions of amino (-NH2) and copper. Under the optimal conditions, the proposed sensor provided a wide linear concentration range of 0.02-20 ng mL-1 (R2 = 0.994), showing high sensitivity, with a lower detection limit of 0.008 ng mL-1, and good selectivity. The sensor's effectiveness was also verified in real spiked wheat samples with satisfactory recoveries of 95.6-105.9%. The current work provides a flexible approach for the rapid and sensitive analysis of highly toxic DON in food samples and may also be easily extended to detect other hazardous substances with alternative target-recognition aptamers.Cardiovascular (CV) diseases and cancer are the leading causes of death in Europe and the United States. Both diseases have extensive overlap and share common risk factors, symptoms, and outcomes. As the number of patients with both cancer and CV diseases continues to rise, the field of cardio-oncology is gaining increased attention. A frequent problem during anti-cancer treatment is cardiotoxicity caused by the side-effects of chemo-, immuno-, targeted, and radiation therapies. This problem may manifest as acute coronary syndrome, myocarditis, arrhythmias, or heart failure. Modern cardio-oncology spans many different research areas. While some researchers focus on treating patients that have already developed cardiotoxicity, others aim to identify new methods for preventing cardiotoxicity before, during, and after anti-cancer therapy. Both groups share the common understanding that regular monitoring of cancer patients is the basis for optimal medical treatment. Optimal treatment can only be achieved through close cooperation between cardiologists and oncologists.
