Further transformations into the rare epoxy-bridged C60-fused hemiacetals and bicyclic-fused 1,2,3,4-adducts as well as application in a perovskite solar cell device of the obtained products have also been demonstrated. DThyd The structures of the epoxy-bridged C60-fused lactones and derived reductive products have been unequivocally established by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. Plausible reaction mechanisms leading to the observed products are proposed.An aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) is considered as a promising candidate for biological applications due to its excellent permeability, selective separation, rapid mass transfer and all-biocompatible nature. However, it remains difficult to generate ATPS emulsions with controllable and prolonged stability due to ultra-low interfacial tension. Here, we present a transient double emulsion (TDE) technique to address this challenge. The method involves two steps (i) water-in-oil-in-water (W1/O/W2) transient double emulsion droplets are first produced with droplet microfluidics by introducing an additional middle oil phase, and (ii) the W1/O/W2 droplets dewet into oil-in-water and ATPS droplets in a controllable manner. Using the TDE method, both dextran-in-polyethylene glycol (PEG) and PEG-in-dextran ATPS droplets can be generated with high uniformity (coefficient of variation (CV) ranging from 0.66% to 2.55%), a wide range of droplet sizes (∼100 to 250 μm in radius), and tunability in the generation frequency (∼4 to 170 Hz). Tuning the oil viscosity controls the destabilization time for on-demand dewetting and releasing of aqueous core droplets. The stability of ATPS droplets is significantly improved by storing aqueous droplets in double emulsion vessels, which would benefit various applications, such as small molecule encapsulation.As an indispensable biothiol, cysteine (Cys) plays a critical part in cellular redox homeostasis, and pathological and physiological processes. One of the main sources of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in human cells is the substrate end of the respiratory chain in the mitochondrial inner membrane. Therefore, it is valuable to develop probes targeting mitochondria to detect Cys. In this work, we designed a novel fluorescent probe, 2-(2-(6-(acryloyloxy) naphthalen-2-yl) vinyl)-3-ethylbenzothiazol-3-ium (ANET). The naphthyl benzothiazole is the fluorophore group and the acrylate moiety is the Cys response site to avoid the interference of homocysteine (Hcy) and glutathione (GSH). ANET combines multiple strengths for detecting Cys targeting mitochondria, ratiometric fluorescence, high selectivity, and a large Stokes shift. After ANET reacted with Cys, the fluorescence signals changed from green (λem = 525 nm) to orange red (λem = 595 nm), and the detection limit was calculated to be 74 nM through a linear relationship between ratiometric fluorescence F595/F525 and Cys concentration. The imaging of Cys was confirmed in HepG2 cells.
Music is for many people an integral part of their lives. In recent years, loud music, whether recorded or played live, has been a significant source of noise. The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between exposure to high sound levels and temporary threshold shift (TTS) in people working as fitness instructors.
The study included a total of 29 people (26 women and 3 men, age 33±6 years) employed in 8 fitness clubs. The sound levels and the frequency characteristics of noise were assessed using individual dosimetry. Hearing threshold was evaluated by pre- and post-exposure pure tone audiometry (PTA), yielding a total of 116 audiograms.
Occupational exposure of fitness instructors to noise lasted 60-120 min and the A-weighted sound pressure level (L
) in their workplace ranged 76.3-96.0 dBA (M = 87.1 dB). In 12% of individual measurements, the maximum admissible intensity (MAI) value for noise at the workplace was exceeded (MAI = 85 dB). In 41% of the surveyed instructors, a TTS of ≥6 dB at 4 kHz was observed.

Brain glycogen mass undergoes compensatory expansion post‑recovery from insulin‑induced hypoglycemia (IIH). Current research utilized combinatory high‑resolution microdissection/high‑sensitivity Western blotting to investigate whether IIH causes residual adjustments in glycogen metabolism within the metabolic‑sensory ventrolateral VMN (VMNvl). Micropunch‑dissected tissue was collected from rostral, middle, and caudal levels of the VMNvl in each sex for analysis of glycogen synthase (GS) and glycogen phosphorylase (GP)‑muscle type (GPmm; norepinephrine‑sensitive) and GP‑brain type (GPbb; glucoprivic‑sensitive) isoform expression during and after IIH. Hypoglycemic suppression of VMNvl GS levels in males disappeared or continued after reestablishment of euglycemia, according to sampled segment. Yet, reductions in female VMNvl GS persisted after IIH. Males exhibited reductions in GPmm content in select rostro‑caudal VMNvl segments, but this protein declined in each segment post‑hypoglycemia.
