To determine whether cognitive and non-cognitive risk factors for driving safety may allow an accurate and economic prediction of on-road driving skills, fitness to drive, and prospective accident risk in healthy older drivers and drivers with MCI, we examined a representative combined sample of older drivers with and without MCI (N = 74) in an observational on-road study. In particular, we examined whether non-cognitive risk factors improve predictive accuracy provided by cognitive factors alone.
Multiple and logistic hierarchical regression analyses were utilized to predict different driving outcomes. In all regression models, we included cognitive predictors alone in a first step and added non-cognitive predictors in a second step.
Results revealed that the combination of cognitive and non-cognitive risk factors significantly predicted driving skills (R2adjusted = 0.30) and fitness to drive (81.2% accuracy) as well as the number (R2adjusted = 0.21) and occurrence (88.3% accuracy) of prospective minor at-fault accidents within the next 12 months. In all analyses, the inclusion of non-cognitive risk factors led to a significant increase of explained variance in the different outcome variables.

Low back pain (LBP) is a common health condition and the leading cause of activity limitation and absenteeism in most parts of the world. One-fifth of patients with LBP develop chronic pain disability.
This study investigated the disability levels in patients with different types of lumbar spinal disorders.
A total of 528 patients visiting spine clinics between June 2017 and February 2018 were enrolled in this study. A demographic checklist, the patients' medical records, the Oswestry Disability Questionnaire, and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were used to collect the data.
Non-specific LBP (29.5%) and discopathy (27%) were the most common final diagnoses. The obtained Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was significantly higher in older patients, those with higher body mass index, more work experience, and smokers. Lower ODI was found in individuals with a history of regular exercise. Most individuals in all diagnostic groups were categorized into the high ODI group (p⩽ 0.001).

Sawtooth-shaped electric fields are applied perpendicular to the surface of a two-dimensional defective slab, with induced charge singularities being placed in the vacuum layer. The silicon vacancy (V Si) in 4H-SiC is employed as a benchmark system, having three zero-phonon lines in the near-infrared (V1, V1' and V2) and exhibiting Stark tunability via fabrication of Schottky barrier or p-i-n diodes. In agreement with experimental observations, we find an approximately linear field response for the zero-phonon transitions of V Si involving the decay from the first excited state (named V1 and V2). However, the magnitude of the Stark shifts are overestimated by nearly a factor of 10 when comparing to experimental findings. We discuss several theoretical and experimental aspects which could affect the agreement.
