anticoagulant use in older adults.
Most older adults with AF had at least one geriatric syndrome, and geriatric syndromes were associated with reduced anticoagulant use. The high prevalence of geriatric syndromes may explain the lower than expected anticoagulant use in older adults.Root elongation depends on the action of the gibberellin (GA) growth hormones, which promote cell production in the root meristem and cell expansion in the elongation zone. Sites of GA biosynthesis in the roots of 7-d-old Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings were investigated using tissue-specific GA inactivation in wild-type (Col-0) or rescue of GA-deficient dwarf mutants. Tissue-specific GA depletion was achieved by ectopic expression of the GA-inactivating enzyme AtGA2ox2, which is specific for C19 -GAs, and AtGA2ox7, which acts on C20 -GA precursors. In addition, tissue-specific rescue of ga20ox triple and ga3ox double mutants was shown. Furthermore, GUS reporter lines for major GA20ox, GA3ox and GA2ox genes were used to observe their expression domains in the root. The effects of expressing these constructs on the lengths of the root apical meristem and cortical cells in the elongation zone confirmed that roots are autonomous for GA biosynthesis, which occurs in multiple tissues, with the endodermis a major site of synthesis. The results are consistent with the early stages of GA biosynthesis within the root occurring in the meristematic region and indicate that the penultimate step of GA biosynthesis, GA 20-oxidation, is required in both the meristem and elongation zone.Over the past few years, there has been growing interest in using online methods for collecting data from large samples. However, only a few studies have administered online behavioral tasks to assess attention outside the lab. In the present study, we assessed the classic attentional functions and two vigilance components using two versions of the Attentional Networks Test for Interactions and Vigilance-executive and arousal vigilance components (ANTI-Vea) (1) a standard version, performed under typical experimental conditions (n = 314), and (2) an online version, completed outside the lab (n = 303). Both versions were equally effective in assessing (1) the main effects and interactions of phasic alertness, orienting, and executive control, and (2) the executive (i.e., a decline in the ability to detect infrequent critical signals) and the arousal (i.e., a progressive slowness and variability in responses to stimuli from the environment) vigilance decrement across time on task. Responses were generally slower in the online than in the standard version. Importantly, the split-half reliability observed for both tasks was (1) higher for executive control (~.67) than for phasic alertness and orienting ( less then .40), as observed in previous versions of the task, and (2) between .71 and .99 for the executive and arousal vigilance measures. We expect the present study will be of interest to researchers aiming to assess attentional functions with a valid and reliable method that, importantly, is publicly available on an open website ( https//www.ugr.es/~neurocog/ANTI/ ) and is easy to use in applied contexts.New technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and eye-tracking software have paved the way for more sophisticated and ecologically valid measures of cognitive function. Testing the sensitivity and reliability of such measurements in response to acute alcohol intoxication provides a first step in establishing how these measures may operate in relation to cognitive impairments observed post-concussion. Healthy young adults (N = 54, M = 20.65, SD = 2.06, 30 females) completed the CONVIRT test battery (manual simple and choice reaction-time and saccade reaction-time) at three breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) levels 0.00%T1, 0.05%T2, 0.08%T3. Participants consumed alcoholic beverages at 30-min intervals, with BrAC monitored at 15-min intervals using a breathalyser. All three CONVIRT measures were sensitive to changes in cognitive performance induced by alcohol at BrAC levels at or exceeding 0.05%. A composite measure was also sensitive to alcohol intoxication (Cohen's d = .85 at BrAC = 0.05%; d = 1.20 at BrAC = 0.08%). Strong test-retest reliability was observed (all r less then .80), with no gender differences noted. CONVIRT measures were reliable and detected dose-dependent changes in alcohol-induced cognitive impairment. Potentially, the ecologically valid measures may assist in better quantifying the effects of conditions such as concussion, on cognitive performance. In this work, we present an innovative and cost-effective approach to run ambulatory assessment (AA) studies on participants' smartphones via Telegram Messenger. Our approach works both for Android and iOS devices. this website The population of potential participants in a given country or region consists of all individuals who (a) are in possession of a smartphone, (b) are willing to install Telegram Messenger, and (c) live in an environment providing constant connection to the Internet. In our new approach to AA, participants are asked to subscribe to a Telegram chatbot that provides them with links to brief surveys at specified points in time in their everyday lives via short notifications. We developed a user-friendly Python script that allows for the flexible editing of the chatbot's settings, e.g., the number of surveys per day. All common survey software designed for mobile devices can be used to present surveys to participants. This means that data collection takes place exclusively via the selected survey software, not via Telegram. With our approach, AA studies can be carried out among iOS and Android users cost-effectively and reliably while data security is ensured. Initial data from a pilot study show that studies of this kind are feasible, and the procedure is accepted by participants. Our Python script is licensed under General Public License (GPLv3) and therefore freely available and editable https//github.com/Raze97/Telegram-Survey-Bot.
Since 2010, 27 mixed-treatment comparisons (MTCs) of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) for multiple sclerosis have been published. However, there has been continued evolution in the field of MTCs. Additionally, limitations in methodological approach and reporting transparency, even in the most recent publications, makes interpretation and comparison of existing studies difficult.

The objectives of this study are twofold (1) to estimate the efficacy and safety of DMTs at European Commission-approved doses compared with placebo in adults with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) using MTC, and (2) to identify and address methodological challenges when performing MTC in RRMS, thereby creating a baseline for comparisons with future treatments.

Searches were completed in 14 databases, including MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, CDSR and DARE, from inception to June 2018 to identify published or unpublished prospective, randomised controlled trials of all European Union-approved DMTs or DMTs expected to be approved in the near future in RRMS or rapidly-evolving severe RRMS.
