KiSS-10 and buserelin did not affect COX2 activity. GnRH1 basal production was increased (P less then 0.01) by KiSS-10, but not by buserelin. Antide counteracted the KiSS and GnRH1 effects, whereas KiSS-234 influence only those of KiSS. Some patients with schizophrenia have impaired hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function. However, there is a dearth of studies focusing on corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) levels in the brains of schizophrenia patients, which motivated us to examine whether cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) CRH concentrations are altered in these patients. We also examined the possible correlation of CSF CRH level with clinical variables such as schizophrenia symptoms and antipsychotic medication. The study population comprised 20 patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia according to DSM-5 criteria and 25 healthy controls, who underwent lumbar puncture. Most of the patients were treated with antipsychotic drugs and their doses were converted to chlorpromazine (CP) equivalent values. CSF CRH concentrations were measured by an enzyme immunoassay. Symptom severity was assessed using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). There was a significantly lower CSF CRH concentration in the patients than in the controls (Mann-Whitney U test p = 0.014). A significantly negative correlation of CSF CRH levels with PANSS negative scores was found in the patients (Spearman's ρ = -0.58, p = 0.007). However, CSF CRH concentrations were not significantly correlated with the PANSS total (ρ = -0.035, p = 0.89), positive (ρ = 0.25, p = 0.30), or general psychopathology (ρ = 0.13, p = 0.59) scores. No significant correlation was found with CP equivalent values (ρ = 0.00, p = 1.00). In conclusion, we found that the patients with schizophrenia had lower CSF CRH concentrations compared to the controls and that the lower CSF CRH was associated with negative symptoms of the illness. Further studies in a larger sample and in drug-free patients are warranted. BACKGROUND The assessment of immediate functional change after hip fracture surgery may assist in predicting rehabilitation outcome and improve program efficiency. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the potential of the initial functional recovery measure in predicting rehabilitation outcome of hip fractured patients. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING Post-acute geriatric rehabilitation center. PARTICIPANTS A total of 630 hip fractured patients admitted from 1/2016-6/2019. METHODS The initial functional recovery, a measure of functional change from the time of surgery to rehabilitation was calculated for each patient. The association between initial functional recovery and clinical and demographic variables was assessed by the Mann-Whitney and chi-square tests. A multiple linear regression model evaluated the association between initial functional recovery and the discharge functional independence measure score. Regression analysis estimated the association between initial functional recovery and the achievement of a favorable outcome measure. RESULTS A good correlations were found between initial functional recovery and rehabilitation outcomes but not length of stay (p less then 0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that after adjustment for potential confounding variables, the higher the initial functional recovery, the better the discharge functional independence measure score (r2 = 0.783; p less then 0.001). Logistic regression revealed that a high initial functional recovery was significantly associated with a higher probability of achieving a favorable functional gain (OR = 1.093; 95% CI = 1.04-1.15, P less then 0.001). CONCLUSION Initial functional recovery is a good predictor of rehabilitation outcomes in hip fractured patients, and may be utilized in decision-making regarding the rehabilitation program in addition to coordinating expectations with patients and their caregivers. OBJECTIVES Since the outbreak of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which has spread in the world rapidly. Population have a susceptibility to COVID-19, older people were more susceptible to have a variety diseases than younger, including COVID-19 infection with no doubt. This study focused on older patients with COVID-19 infection and analyzed the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of them. METHODS We collected information on confirmed older patient transferred by Beijing Emergency Medical Service (EMS) to the designated hospitals from Jan 20 to Feb 29, 2020. The information including demographic, epidemiological, clinical, classification of severity and outcomes. All cases were categorized into three groups and compared the difference between aged 50-64 years, 65-79 years and older than 80 years. RESULTS 56.7 % of elderly confirmed patients were male, fever (78.3 %), cough (56.7 %), dyspnea (30.0 %), and fatigue (23.3 %) were common symptoms of COVID-19 infection. Classification of severity has statistically significant differences between the three groups, compared with middle-aged patients and aged 65-79 years group, older than 80 years group had significant statistical differences in contacted to symptomatic case in 14 days. As of Feb 29, 38.3 % patients had discharged and 53.3 % patients remained in hospital in our study, the fatality of COVID-19 infection in elderly was 8.3 %. CONCLUSIONS The COVID-19 infection is generally susceptible with a relatively high fatality rate in older patients, we should pay more attention to the elderly patients with COVID-19 infection. The objective of this study was to evaluate the tissue distributions of antibiotics in the fish, the bioaccumulation and trophic transfer in freshwater food web in Taihu Lake, a large shallow freshwater lake. Twenty four out of 41 antibiotics were detected in the biotas of the food web; and antibiotic concentrations followed the orders fish plasma ~ fish muscle less then fish liver ~ fish bile and fish less then invertebrates ~ plankton. Antibiotic concentrations in the liver of piscivores were higher than those in omnivores and planktivores. Most bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) of sulfonamides (SAs), macrolides (MLs), ionophores (IPs) and lincomycin (LIN) were less than 2000 L/kg, indicating low bioaccumulation ability of these compounds in fish. Fluoroquinolones (FQs) were frequently detected in fish liver, invertebrates and plankton with much of BAFs great than 5000 L/kg, indicating that FQs have the potential of bioaccumulation in fish. Relationship analysis between BAFs and physicochemical properties of antibiotics showed that the bioaccumulation of antibiotics in the biota was related with their adsorption ability.
