Motorcycle School - How to Pass a Driver's License Test
Completion of a motorcycle safety class typically eliminates the need to take the driver's license test. The course will teach how to be aware of other drivers, keep an appropriate distance from them, and safely ride to your ability.
The training consists of both instructor-led classroom sessions and hands-on riding. Be sure to arrive on time as stragglers can throw off the schedule of the class.
Classroom Instruction
The MSF Basic Rider Course is the perfect course for anyone who wants to learn how to ride a motorbike or scooter. The class offers classroom instruction and actual instruction for operators of motorcycles or scooters in a controlled, off-street environment. The BRC is designed for beginners and can help you to avoid the MVC road test. It teaches street tactics that include how to brake effectively and how to maneuver in tight situations and how to move lanes, and how to pass without causing any hazards.
The five-hour ePackage one (eP1) eCourse can be taken as a stand-alone application or as a prerequisite for the hands-on component of the complete BRC. The eCourse contains videos, interactive lessons and graphics that allow you to experience the principles of motorcycling. Discounts on insurance may be offered to you after successful completion of the course.
To be eligible for a course completion card and to take part in the riding-skill assessment, the ePackage 1 (eP1) must be completed within 30 days of your BRC course start date. No refund will be issued if the eCourse has not been completed. For participation in the hands-on BRC participants must possess a VALID driver's license.
The CLASS program, a 2-day rider-training class, enables you to develop your riding skills on a street legal motorcycle or scooter provided by the school. This class is taught to you by MSF certified instructors. The emphasis is on developing your confidence as well as your knowledge of the operating system of your scooter or motorcycle. The class includes classroom instruction, riding exercises and a riding-skill evaluation.
The course is based on the lessons of Reg Pridmore, three-time AMA Superbike Champion and his carefully selected team of instructors. Their ideas have been refined over the course of 50 years of racing, riding and teaching. The ideas are explained in a straightforward way to make them easy to understand and apply. The result is a secure, competent and safer rider.
Practice Range
A significant part of your motorcycle school will take place on a practice area in which you can improve and test your riding skills in a controlled environment. Typically, the area will be blocked off from traffic to allow you to practice in a safe area. Your RiderCoach will walk you through the basic control and procedures of your bike before taking you out on the range. Your RiderCoach will evaluate your abilities at the end of every session on the range. These exercises include limited-space maneuvers and brakes. If you complete the riding-skills test you will be awarded the BRC Road Test Waiver Completion Card (a license waiver).
It's important to bring your motorcycle safety gear to classYour RiderCoach will provide helmets for students who don't have them, but make sure to wear a DOT-approved helmet. Also, wear long pants, a non-flare fabric, full fingered gloves, over-the-ankle boots or shoes and eye protection.
You will spend approximately five hours in a classroom learning about your bike before you ride it on the range. Your instructor will guide you through the basics of riding a motorcycle including turning, shifting and straight-line riding. You'll then move on to more complex techniques like emergency braking, swerving and emergency braking. The course will conclude with a comprehensive assessment of your riding skills. You'll be awarded an award and may be eligible for a discount on motorcycles.
In many states, a motorbike safety class is required in order to obtain a license. Find out from your local DMV to determine if the course or recommendation is required. You must enroll in a Motorcycle Safety Foundation approved program. This could be used to avoid the road test required by the DMV.
The MSF Basic RiderCourse can be taken at a variety of places across the country. The course is comprised of approximately five hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours on bikes. It is the most efficient way to obtain an MMV license and could also be eligible for an insurance discount.
Feedback from Instructors
"The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and professional. jazda na motorze love their students and that shows. They will teach you the fundamentals of riding motorcycles. I highly recommend this course to any rider of any age or level of experience."
The classroom instruction was informative and thought-provoking. The riding instruction consisted of both theory and practice, but the real highlight was the instructor feedback. They didn't just say "OK" however, they gave you the reasons why you did it wrong. For instance, "You looked down at the handlebars", "You gave it too many gas", "Your wrists are bent", "You shifted too early" or "You weren’t pushing down on your foot peg". They also explained how to fix the problem.
This kind of personal coaching is the price you pay for a quality training course and it is what sets this course apart from others. Some riders may think this is harsh, but my view is that it's imperative to give students the best chance of passing the test and being safe on the bike.
I've taken courses previously and the instructor never gave me any feedback. If a student doesn't pose an immediate danger or impedes the advancement of others in the class There's no reason that instructors should have the final word on whether or not a student is able to pass the course.
In my opinion, any moto school that doesn't offer personalized coaching is missing an essential element of its curriculum and doesn't deserve the praise it receives in student reviews. The Basic RiderCourse and continuing with private lessons is the best way to get up and running safely and quickly. So you can learn from a pro and avoid making mistakes, and start on the road with confidence and a set of skills that will serve you for a lifetime of riding enjoyment. The majority of states don't require written or riding license endorsement tests for those who have completed a certified RiderCourse, and some insurance companies offer discounts for those who complete a course.
Final Exam
In the second portion of your class you will learn about road skills, such as braking, accelerating, changing gears turning, swerving, and braking. This part of the class is held until you are able to successfully pass a riding skills test. This part of the class will determine if you will receive your motorcycle license road test waiver card. The test will cover the techniques that the DMV driver examiner will search for during your test to determine your license. It's fine if you don't pass the exam. Keep working hard and work hard to get it right the next time.
If you pass the exam your instructor will issue you a certificate of course completion which you can use to obtain a motorcycle insurance discount. You will also be a certified rider and can now legally ride your motorcycle on the streets.
The MSF 3-wheel BRC is a research-based, action-oriented program designed to teach new 3-wheel motorcyclists of all ages the physical and mental abilities required for riding safely on the streets. The 3-WBRC provides classroom instruction and two full days of "on 3WMC" training on motorcycles that are specifically designed to be used for training purposes. The successful completion of this course will allow you to obtain a NYS DMV road test waiver to operate a 3-wheel motorcycle only.
Students must have an approved motorcycle helmet from the Department of Transportation and be at least 16 years old. Before the start of class parents or guardianship is required to sign the New York State Covid Release waiver and indemnification form if the student is under 18. Eye protection and sturdy riding clothes are recommended. Helmets are available to borrow or you can bring them with you.
To receive your certificate of completion of your motorcycle course, you must complete the 5-hour ePackage 1 online course. The eCourse should be completed within 30 days of your course's beginning date. The online eCourse must be completed using either a computer or mobile device. There will be no refunds when you sign up without a valid driver's license.
