Frost Free Fridge Freezer Sale
Frost-free freezers don't require defrosting since they use a timer to warm the coils periodically and melt any ice that has piled up. This is a lot of energy, but it also saves time and effort.
Refrigerators that do not have a freezer with a non-frost feature use electricity, cost less to buy and last longer. But they require regular manual defrosting.
1. Energy efficiency
Frost can build up in a refrigerator and block all the shelves, leaving only a little space for food storage. It also forces the fridge to work harder, which can drive up the cost of electricity. A frost-free model stops this by keeping the coils free of frozen. Frost develops when water vapor condenses onto the cold coils that distribute refrigerant. The ice melts as it comes in contact with warm air. It's like water dripping from an iced tea glass on hot days.
Refrigerators and freezers account for 17 percent of all domestic energy consumption in Britain, so choosing an efficient model can make huge difference in your monthly bills. Look for models with the Energy Saving Recommended logo and an Ecodesign score of a high standard from the EU. B&Q offers a variety of energy-efficient fridge freezers.
The energy efficiency of a fridge is not solely about how much power it consumes but also the amount of heat it produces. To prevent condensation, opt for a frost-free model with an element that heats up that is anti-sweat. These heating elements can be integrated into the frame of a freezer, and are activated by a sensor when the temperature is above 32 degrees Celsius. They are more energy efficient than manual heaters, and consume less energy.
Think about the type of refrigerant you use in the freezer. Some old fridges and freezers contain hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). These greenhouse gases are extremely potent that cause climate change and deplete the ozone layer. The EU is phasing them out therefore new appliances should only be made of refrigerants that are free of HFCs, such as R600A and R290.
Choose a freezer that utilizes Greenfreeze as the refrigerant in order to avoid frost. It is a mixture of propane, isobutane and cyclopentane with a very low ozone-depletion potential. If you're in the market for a chest freezer, consider the Greenfreeze refrigerant too. These models do not emit CFCs, so they have less impact on the ozone layer.
2. Convenience
Frost on the freezer will hinder cold air from getting to the food, forcing the fridge to work harder. This can result in higher electricity costs due to the energy waste. Frost-free fridges avoid this by using a timer, heating coil and temperature sensor to continuously warm the coils, melting any frozen ice that has formed. This process takes up less energy than manual defrosting and can be completed at a time that suits you, without needing to manually intervene.
Fridge freezers with NoFrost technology provide even more convenience. If you don't have to defrost, the cold air circulates better. This creates the perfect environment for meat, fish and salads to remain longer and fresher.
You can choose from models that include BioFresh, BioFresh Professional HydroBreeze and NoFrost technologies. They ensure that your food stays fresher even longer, so you can enjoy delicious meat delicate seafood, fresh-picked salad whenever you like.
3. Style
There are a variety of models to pick from, whether you want an elegant upright model or a compact model that can be hidden away in the garage. Certain models come with LED interior lighting, while others feature a useful built-in defrost timer to let you know when it's time to clean the evaporator. Check your appliance's manual for more details.
Ice buildup both above and below the unit can cause airflow to be affected, and the temperature to rise.
4. Storage
