. ACS was the most common technique (77.7%). Overall complications were frequent in both ACS and PCS techniques (36.5%), with a higher frequency of wound infection (10.6% vs. 7.0%; P = 0.05) and skin necrosis (4.4% vs. 0.1%; P < 0.0001) with the ACS technique. Main factors leading to major complications were mesh explant (OR 1.72; P = 0.001), previous repair (OR 0.75; P = 0.038), morbid obesity (OR 0.67; P = 0.015), ASA grade (OR 0.62; P < 0.0001), COPD (OR 0.52; P < 0.0001), and longitudinal diameter larger than 10cm (OR 0.58; P = 0.001). After a minimum follow-up of 6months (median 15months; N = 590), 59 (10.0%) recurrences were diagnosed. Operations performed in a non-specialized unit were significantly associated with recurrences (HR 4.903, CI 1.64-14.65; P = 0.004).

Barriers to education in open and laparoscopic hernia repair technique include a steep learning curve and reduced theatre time for junior surgical trainees. This is particularly evident during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Simulation models may provide further opportunities for training in hernia repair outside of the traditional surgical apprenticeship model.

A systematic review was carried out following PRISMA guidelines to identify and evaluate simulation models in hernia repair. Of the 866 records screened, 27 were included in the analysis. These were assessed for face, content and construct validity, as well as their attempt to measure educational impact.

Simulation models were identified comprising of animal tissues, synthetic materials and virtual reality (VR) technology. Models were designed for instruction in repair of inguinal, umbilical, incisional and diaphragmatic hernias. Twenty-one laparoscopic hernia repair models were described. Many models demonstrated validity across several domains, and three showed transferability of skills from simulation to the operating room. Of the six open hernia repair simulation models, none were found to have demonstrated an educational impact in addition to assessing validity.

However, little attention has been given to its mechanobiological role in cancer cells. Here, we quantitatively investigated the role of FLNa by analyzing the following parameters in negative control (NC) and FLNa-knockdown (KD) U87 glioma cells using submicron pillars (900 nm diameter and 2 μm height) traction force (TF), rigidity sensing ability, cell aspect ratio, migration speed, and invasiveness. During the initial phase of cell adhesion ( less then  1 h), FLNa-KD cells polarized more slowly than did NC cells, which can be explained by the loss of rigidity sensing in FLNa-KD cells. The higher motility of FLNa-KD cells relative to NC cells can be explained by the high TF exerted by FLNa-KD cells when compared to NC cells, while the higher invasiveness of FLNa-KD cells relative to NC cells can be explained by a greater number of filopodia in FLNa-KD cells than in NC cells. Our results suggest that FLNa plays important roles in suppressing motility and invasiveness of U87 cells.
Effect of ultrasound guided injections of autologous ASCs in chronic recalcitrant patellar tendinopathy.

Fourteen patients (16 knees, 12/2 males/females) with chronic, recalcitrant (unsuccessfully treated with nonoperative treatments) insertional PT underwent clinical evaluation and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before intervention. Stromal vascular fraction cells (SVF) were expanded by in-vitro culture and characterized by flow cytometry. Players were injected with three bi-weekly injections of ASCs followed by physiotherapy. They underwent serial clinical evaluations during a 12-month period with repeated MRI at 6-month post-injection.
