In this prospective randomised placebo-controlled study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of New Cross linked Hyaluronan Gel (NCH gel) on the quality of life of patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery due to Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis (DIE). The intervention group received 40 mL of NCH gel, and the control group had a 40 mL sterile saline solution instilled into the peritoneal cavity following standard laparoscopic procedures. The patients were called in the third and sixth postoperative months and requested to fill the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Endometriosis Health Profile (EHP-5), and Short Form for Mental and Physical Health (SF-12) questionnaires. There was a significant reduction in dysmenorrhoea, dyschezia, dyspareunia VAS scores at 3rd, and 6th-month visits in NCH gel group. The postoperative 6th-month EHP-5 scores were significantly lower (1.16 ± 1.51, p-value .02) in NCH gel group. Besides, NCH gel group had higher SF-12 mental and SF-12 physical scores. Clinical Trials registration number NCT04023383IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? Application of solid or liquid physical barriers is believed to be a promising strategy to reduce adhesions after laparoscopic endometriosis surgery. However, comparable data regarding the effects of adhesion barriers are still lacking. What the results of this study add? We revealed that there was a significantly higher decrease in VAS and EHP-5 scores and an increase in SF-12 physical-mental ratings after surgery in NCH gel group. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Using NHC gel in addition to standard surgical procedure improves postoperative VAS scores, and provides better quality of life scores. Background Different therapeutic options can be used for post-acne scarring. Scar subcision alone or in combination with other treatments have been used by many dermatologists to treat post-acne scarring. Objectives We thought to study and compare the efficacy and safety of scar subcision combined with platelet gel injection versus scar subcision combined with PRP injection for atrophic post-acne scarring.Patients and methods Scar subcision was done 1st on both sides of the face. Plasma gel injection was done on the right side and PRP injection was done on the left side. The sessions were done monthly for 4 months followed by a 6-month follow-up period. Evaluation of the results and any complications were recorded. Results There was a significant improvement (p = .035) of the scars on the subcision-gel-side at one month following the 1st treatment session. However, along with the following sessions, there were no significant differences between both sides. Finally, at the follow-up visit after 6 months following the end of the treatment course there was a significant difference between the two sides of the face in favor of the subcision-gel-side.Conclusions Subcision combined with autologous plasma gel injection is a successful technique for atrophic post-acne scars.Multiple models of interprofessional rounding (IPR) exist. However, researchers find mixed effects for the impact of IPR, pointing to the possibility that variations in design may influence the effectiveness of the practice. We explored whether IPR design variations (location, use of script, and role of the leader) are associated with team collaboration (partnership and cooperation) and team effectiveness as perceived by practitioners and patients (i.e., patient inclusion). A cross-sectional, survey-based method design was used targeting practitioners on 15 different hospital units at two academic health centers. Routinely collected Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Practitioners and Systems scores were used to capture patients' perceptions. Statistical methods included multilevel modeling with moderation analysis. There were several significant relationships among design, team collaboration, and team effectiveness. For the design, role of the leader and use of a script had a significant positive association with cooperation. Practitioners' perceptions of team effectiveness were associated with use of script, and cooperation moderated the relationships between practitioners' perceptions of team effectiveness and location, as well as the role of the leader. There was a significant inverse relationship between cooperation and patient inclusion. Results can inform organizations that are exploring, implementing, or improving IPR as well as considering alternative ways to evaluate their practices.Context Organophosphorus (OP) insecticide poisoning is a significant health problem in South Asian countries. Although cholinergic receptors are present at the junction between photoreceptors and the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), human studies of the effects of OP poisoning on the visual pathways are very few. This study aims to demonstrate the pattern of changes in retina and post retinal pathways in patients with acute OP poisoning using visual electrophysiological tests. Methods This is an observational, cross-sectional study conducted at the Neurophysiology Unit, Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. We tested 16 patients recovered from cholinergic phase, at least 24 h after deatropinization and within 8 weeks of OP ingestion. We assessed the functional integrity of the photoreceptors and ganglion cells of the macula by pattern electroretinography (PERG); RPE by electro-oculography (EOG); and post retinal pathways by pattern reversal visual evoked potentials (PR-VEP). Latencies and amplitudes of PR-VEP and PERG, light peak (LP), dark trough (DT) and Arden ratio of EOG were determined in patients and compared with 16 controls using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results Of the 16 OP-poisoned patients (median age of 37 ± IQR 20 years), six (37.5%) had reduced Arden ratio with reference to the International Society of Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision cut-off value of 1.7. cis-diamminedichloroplatinum II mw The median Arden ratio in patients (1.69 ± IQR 0.36) was significantly lower compared to controls (1.90 ± IQR 0.4). The median latencies and amplitudes of PR-VEP or PERG were not significantly different between patients and controls. However, three patients had prolonged P100 latencies in PR-VEP and one had prolonged P50 latency in PERG.Conclusions Acute OP poisoning seems to affect the functions of the RPE and the visual electrophysiological changes outlast the cholinergic phase. Limited evidence suggests that photoreceptors of the macula region and post retinal pathway might be affected in some patients.
