TNF-α-induced necessary protein 8-like Two adversely manages the resistant purpose of dendritic tissue by simply quelling autophagy through the TAK1/JNK pathway within septic rodents.
Thyroid storm is usually due to a severe exacerbation of a preexisting thyrotoxicosis, which later leads to decompensation in different organ systems. Thyroid storm with malignant arrhythmia is rare, but the mortality rate is high. Malignant arrhythmia has usually occurred in some patients with hypokalemia or ischemic heart disease. The presentation of these arrhythmias in the initial phase of the disease is much less common, and only a few isolated cases are described in the scientific literature. This paper analyzes and summarizes the clinical characteristics of this disease through literature reviews, for clinicians early detection and diagnosis of this disease. We report a 51-year-old woman with diarrhoea, fever, thyroid storm, ventricular fibrillation and no potential heart disease. The case report is discussed using relevant data from literature. A total of 9 patients were reported in the literature, totalling 10 cases with ours, including 7 cases of ventricular fibrillation and 3 cases of ventricular tachycardia. Most of the treatments were antithyroid drugs, hormones and beta-receptor blockers, and 3 death cases. Patients with thyroid crisis need to be closely monitored for malignant arrhythmias. Early diagnosis and treatment may save lives.
Hepatic portal venous gas (HPVG) is a pathological condition characterized by gas in the portal venous system and its branches. The clinical manifestations of HPVG range from benign to life-threatening conditions. Here, we present a rare case of HPVG accompanied by free air in a healthy young patient without any suspicious etiology.

A 28-year-old man without any specific medical history complained of sudden-onset dyspnea. On admission, his vital signs were stable, and the laboratory tests and physical examinations were within normal range. A plain chest and abdominal film revealed subphrenic free air and HPVG. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) showed extensive portal venous gas throughout the liver; however, there were no abnormal findings indicative of the etiology. Considering the stable vital signs and the lack of physical findings suggesting a surgical acute abdomen, the patient was managed conservatively. On admission day 3, the subphrenic free air and HPVG shown in the initial study had almost resolved, with no new symptoms. He was discharged on the fourth day after admission without any complications. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, colonoscopy, and colonography protocol CT scan showed no significant abnormalities.

This case suggests that idiopathic HPVG could appear in healthy patients complaining only of vague symptoms. Initial conservative management could be considered if HPVG does not result from a life-threatening condition that needs immediate management, and if the patient is stable.

Social distancing measures, such as stay-at-home, are currently implemented to control the COVID-19 pandemic in many countries, including Saudi Arabia. find more The aim of this study was, therefore, to evaluate the awareness and adherence of the Saudi population to these measures.

A web-based questionnaire was designed with 16 questions (eight questions related to demographics, three related to the awareness of social distancing (stay-at-home) and five related to the overall practice of social distancing).

A total of 5105 participants completed the survey [58.4% females, 66.3% young individuals (aged 18-37 years), 55.8% bachelor degree holders and 51.0% from the western region]. The Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH) was the main source of information about COVID-19 for most of the participants (78.2%). High awareness (81.3%) regarding stay-at-home was observed, associated mainly with female participants, those from the middle region and those with a high education and income. The overall implementation of social distancing was satisfactory (score 3.13/5), with 37.8% never leaving home during the stay-at-home period. Better adherence to social distancing was observed among female participants, higher degree holders and those aged over 38 years.

Organised plans by the Saudi MOH have been effective in raising awareness and improving the practice of social distancing among public. However, the observed lower practice of social distancing by individuals with a lower education and income indicates the need for targeted interventions to achieve better outcomes.

Workplace violence is common throughout the world. It causes many serious problems in the healthcare sector, where it significantly impacts healthcare workers, the services provided, and organizations as a whole. However, few studies have investigated these issues in Saudi Arabia. This study examined the prevalence of violence against healthcare workers at primary care centers in Dammam and Al Khobar, in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The study also assessed the types, perpetrators, perceived causes, and consequences related to such violence. Here, the aim was to understand how healthcare workers responded to violence and gauge their awareness of a reporting system.

A total of 360 healthcare workers (180 each from primary care centers in Dammam and Al Khobar) were invited to complete structured, self-administered questionnaires. As such, this study employed a cross-sectional analytical design.

The prevalence of workplace violence among all participating health workers was 46.9%, with approximatel exposed to different forms of violence, but often either did not react to it or did not report it. Further, there was relatively little awareness of how to manage and report workplace violence, thus indicating the need for healthcare workers to receive relevant education and training. A national program should also be established to track and prevent workplace violence.
