Category B drivers are permitted to tow smaller O3 trailers, provided that the vehicle's weight without load is less than or equal to the maximum MAM of the O3 trailer.
Drivers who wish to operate larger motor vehicles as well as caravans must obtain an a driving licence of category C. The driver is able to drive a bus carrying more than 8 passengers and up to one or two trailers weighing 750kg. After qualifying for category D, the driver is able to opt to change to category DE and tow a trailer with a gross weight of 12,000kg. The age of eligibility to categories DE and D are 23 years. Drivers who are physically disabled and have a category A entitlements can ride motor tricycles up to 15 kW.
Drivers who are licensed in category A1 can ride light motorbikes. They can have a cylinder capacity of up to 125 cc, and a weight-to-power ratio of up to 0.1 kg/kW. They can also drive three-wheeled vehicles with a cylinder capacity of 50 cc or greater and they can also drive mopeds with three or two wheels.
In some states, drivers with a category A license can also drive vehicles made up of a tractor unit along with a trailer. This includes the weight of the vehicle and the driver as well as all the parts that are normally used in the vehicle. It also includes important fluids such as oil. This information is usually located in the owner's manual of the vehicle or on a sticker. If you own a combination of category B vehicle with a trailer registered on your licence, you can tow up 8.25 tonnes MAM.
You can drive a category B motor vehicle and a trailer that has an authorized maximum mass of up to 7,500 kg in the event that you hold an approved category B license issued at minimum two years ago and code 96 is not entered on the driving licence. This exemption is applicable to vehicles that are not classified as lorries and have seats for up to eight passengers, including the driver. This also includes land tractors and work vehicles and motor-driven quadricycles.
You may also drive a category B car with trailers with a maximum authorised Mass of up to 750kg if you have an authorised category B license and code 96 isn't included on the licence. This exemption applies to vehicles that are driven on public roads and are not classified as trailers or lorries. This exemption also applies to vehicles on private roads which are not classified as trailers or lorries but are used to transport funeral items.
