There is a need for methods that provide a better understanding of bicyclists' perceived safety and preferences on currently unavailable and/or unknown bicycle facilities. Different survey methods have been used to study bicyclists' behavior, experiences, and preferences; ranging from verbally described facilities to surveys including images and videos. Virtual Reality (VR) experiments blur the boundaries between stated preference (SP) surveys and revealed preference (RP) surveys and provide a realistic sense of design. This research introduces a novel research method in bicycling research and discusses the results of an experiment using a bicycle simulator combined with immersive VR. In total, 150 participants participated in this experiment and were asked about demographics and perceptions and preferences after bicycling in five different environments with an instrumented bicycle in VR. A 5 × 2 mixed design was used with bicycling environment as within-subject factor and pedestrian / traffic volume as between-subject factor. ANOVA tests revealed how each environment and ambient pedestrian / traffic volume affected perceived level of safety (PLOS) and willingness to bicycle (WTB). Pairwise comparison showed that participants felt safer bicycling on the segregated bicycle path compared to bicycling on the painted bicycle path on the road and roadside. There was no meaningful difference between WTB for less than 10 min and WTB for more than 10 min between bicycling on a painted bicycle path on the sidewalk and painted bicycle path on the road. PLOS and WTB ratings of men and women were not significantly different from each other. The older segment of the sample was more worried about roadside bicycling and bicycle commuters were more confident to ride on the roadside. Despite having several limitations, immersive 360-degree VR was found a powerful presentation tool to evaluate future street designs which can inform transport and urban planning.Bicycle traffic and the number of accidents have been increasing in Switzerland in recent years. However, little is known about specific types of bicycling accidents - such as tramline-associated bicycling accidents (TABA) - that are potentially avoidable. This retrospective single center study of emergency department (ED) consultations analyzed TABA in the city of Bern, Switzerland. We analyzed the medical records of adult patients who presented to the ED after any bicycle accident. Patient and consultation characteristics were extracted. Incidence, important characteristics and ED resource consumption of TABA were compared with bicycle accidents that did not involve tramlines (BA). Furthermore, injury patterns and predictors of resource consumption were determined in TABA. We included a total of 298 TABA and 2351 BA over the 5.6-year study period. TABA accounted for 11.2 % of all bicycling accidents. Descriptive analysis revealed a significant increase between 2013 (lowest) and 2016 (highest) of 33.0 % in te future.
Surgeons are reliant on the bedside assistant during robotic surgeries. Using a modified global rating scale (GRS), we aim to assess the association between an assistant's technical skill on surgeon performance in Robotic-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy (RARP).

Prospective, intraoperative video from RARP cases at three centers were collected. Baseline demographic and RARP-experience data were collected from participating surgeons and trainees. The dissection of the prostatic pedicle and neurovascular bundle step (NVB) was analyzed. Expert analysts scored the console surgeon performance using the Global Evaluative Assessment of Robotic Skills (GEARS), and the bedside assistant performance using a modified Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (aOSATS). The primary outcome is the association between console surgeon performance, as measured by GEARS, and assistant skill, as measured by aOSATS. Spearman's rho correlations were used to test the relationship between assistant and surgeon technical in RARP. Additionally, we have provided validity evidence for a modified OSATS global rating scale for training and assessing bedside assistant performance.
This is the first study to assess the association between assistant technical skill and surgeon performance in RARP. Additionally, we have provided validity evidence for a modified OSATS global rating scale for training and assessing bedside assistant performance.Three experiments evaluated the effects of expression of estrus and gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) treatment on pregnancies per AI (P/AI) in beef cattle that were treated with an estradiol/progesterone (P4)-based protocol for fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI). In Experiment 1, 20 non-lactating beef cows were treated with 2 mg estradiol benzoate (EB) and an intravaginal device containing 0.5 g of P4. Seven days later, P4 devices were removed and all cows received prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2α) and 0.5 mg estradiol cypionate (ECP). Estrus was detected using tail paint and cows that did not show estrus by 48 h after P4 device removal were randomized to receive GnRH or no treatment. Ovulation, as determined by ultrasonography, occurred earlier in cows that showed estrus (68.0 ± 2.5 h) than in cows that did not (82.0 ± 2.1 h, P less then 0.05). Furthermore, cows that received GnRH ovulated earlier (78.0 ± 2.6 h) than those that did not (86.0 ± 2.0, P less then 0.05). Experiment 2 determined whett the time of P4 device removal on Day 7. Cows that showed estrus by 48 h or 56 h had greater P/AI (62.3%, P less then 0.05) than those did not show estrus (51.5%). Selleckchem Disufenton Furthermore, when cows that did not show estrus by 48 h were analyzed separately, P/AI were greater (P less then 0.05) in those that received GnRH at 48 h and were FTAI by 56 h (64.9%) than in those that received GnRH concurrent with FTAI by 56 h after device removal (54.6%). In summary, expression of estrus was associated with earlier ovulations and resulted in greater P/AI in cows and heifers treated with an estradiol/P4-based protocol for FTAI. Furthermore, GnRH treatment in animals that did not show estrus hastened the time of ovulation and increased P/AI.
