Myo-inositol down-regulates the expression of IL-6 by phosphatidyl-inositol-3-kinase (PI3K) pathway. Furthermore, myo-inositol is the precursor of phospholipids in the surfactant and it is applied for inducing surfactant synthesis in infants for treating respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). This review aims to summarize the evidence about COVID-19 infection in pregnant women and to encourage the scientific community to investigate the use of Vitamin D and Myo-inositol which could represent a possible preventive treatment for pregnant women or women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (ART).Lack of suitable surface functional groups is one of the main limitations related to the cell attachment of Polycaprolactone (PCL). Linsitinib manufacturer The aim of this research was to surface modify the PCL film using gelatin coating, via a simple physical entrapment process. In this regard, after preparation of PCL films using casting, they were immersed in each gelatin solutions. Consequently, chemical crosslinking using glutaraldehyde was performed to improve the stability of the PCL-gelatin film. Attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), contact angle measurement, strip tensile test, Dimethylthiazol-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and Cell seeding were used to evaluate the quality of the coating layer, the thickness of PCL-gelatin film, the surface wettability, their mechanical properties, Cell viability and Cell attachment and proliferation respectively. Results showed that the amount of entrapped gelatin enhanced with increasing acetone in the gelatin solution. Surface modification led to a two-fold increment of mechanical strength, about 50% increase in elastic modulus, 54% in elongation and up to 11% increment in cell viability. Moreover, wettability and cell attachment of PCL film significantly enhanced, after gelatin modification. In conclusion, the simple and cost effective modification of PCL using gelatin entrapment could provide significant mechanical and biological properties making it a promising approach for development of three-dimensional scaffolds for bone tissue engineering.Multi-functionalization of calcium phosphates to get delivery systems of therapeutic agents is gaining increasing relevance for the development of functional biomaterials aimed to solve problems related to disorders of the muscolo-skeletal system. In this regard, we functionalized Strontium substituted hydroxyapatite (SrHA) with some β-lactam integrin agonists to develop materials with enhanced properties in promoting cell adhesion and activation of intracellular signaling as well as in counteracting abnormal bone resorption. For this purpose, we selected two monocyclic β-lactams on the basis of their activities towards specific integrins on promoting cell adhesion and signalling. The amount of β-lactams loaded on SrHA could be modulated on changing the polarity of the loading solution, from 3.5-24 wt% for compound 1 and from 3.2-8.4 wt% for compound 2. Studies on the release of the β-lactams from the functionalized SrHA in aqueous medium showed an initial burst followed by a steady-release that ensures a small but constant amount of the compounds over time. The new composites were fully characterized. Co-culture of human primary mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) and human primary osteoclast (OC) demonstrated that the presence of β-lactams on SrHA favors hMSC adhesion and viability, as well as differentiation towards osteoblastic lineage. Moreover, the β-lactams were found to enhance the inhibitory role of Strontium on osteoclast viability and differentiation.Train related accidents, particularly derailments, can lead to severe consequences especially when they involve injuries or fatalities or when they involve hazardous materials that might result in environmental impacts. Whereas numerous road safety studies have suggested appropriate approaches to predicting vehicle-to-vehicle collisions, very few railway safety studies have considered predicting the number of derailments on rail tracks in North America. In addition, the existing few rail safety assessment and derailment prediction models have often been constrained by aggregated data limiting the safety assessments by, for example, failing to consider segment-level characteristics. This paper focused on the development of an integrated database for the development of a segment-level derailment prediction model for Canada's rail network. The primary objective of this paper is to report how challenges in the data integration process were overcome and also to develop a network screening tool to identify segments with high derailment risk in Canada's rail network. Negative binomial regression and the Empirical Bayes technique were used to estimate the predicted number of derailments on Canada's rail network at the segment level. A network screening process was then successfully applied to identify key segments of safety concern the top ten segments of concern accounted for approximately 1% of the rail network allowing decision makers to focus their derailment mitigation efforts on a manageable part of Canada's vast rail network. The data processing approach and analysis in this study have strong implications for advancing research on rail safety in North America.Freeway on-ramp merging areas are high-risk areas for motor vehicle crashes and conflicts due to the variety of driving styles, the difference in mainline and ramp traffic states, and factors related to roadway design and traffic control. The emerging Autonomous Vehicle (AV) technologies are expected to bring substantial improvements in ramp merging operations in general, including the possibility to reduce traffic conflicts and crashes by partially or fully eliminating the critical factors related to the human drivers. In order to investigate the potential safety impacts of AVs at on-ramp merging, this study first proposes a novel conflict index in theory as a specific indicator for ramp merging safety. Then, a merging conflict model is introduced to estimate the index value in various cases by considering the interactions between the mainline and ramp vehicles. In order to account for real-world uncertainties and variations in various crash-contributing factors, the proposed approach incorporates Monte-Carlo method and probabilistic distributions calibrated on the empirical freeway data.
