The conflict in Syria has left the population at great risk for mental distress which was higher compared to Syrian refugees elsewhere. Many measures with an emphasis on mental health are needed to help the people against a long-term avoidable suffering.
The novel pandemic of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has becoming a public health issue since March 2020 considering that more than 30 million people were found to be infected worldwide. AZ-33 cost Particularly, recent evidences suggested that men may be considered as at higher risk of poor prognosis or death once the infection occurred and concerns surfaced in regard of the risk of a possible testicular injury due to SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Several data support the existence of a bivalent role of testosterone (T) in driving poor prognosis in patients with COVID-19. On one hand, this is attributable to the fact that T may facilitate SARS-CoV-2 entry in human cells by means of an enhanced expression of transmembrane serine-protease 2 (TMPRSS2) and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). At the same time, younger man with normal testicular function compared to women of similar age are prone to develop a blunted immune response against SARS-CoV-2, being exposed to less viral clearance and more viral shedding and syson of COVID-19. Despite these evidence, long-term and well-designed studies are needed to clarify these issues.
College students may have risk of fat-soluble vitamins deficiencies due to unhealthy dietary habits, especially for vitamin A and E. They are important members in the human antioxidant network, deficiencies of these vitamins may increase risk of many critical diseases.
The current study was undertaken to determine the status of vitamin A and E in college students.
Healthy college students were recruited, and fasting blood samples of them were collected and used for determining serum levels of retinol and α-tocopherol by the HPLC method.
We found that there was no vitamin A deficiency in college students. However, vitamin E deficiency existed in 34.5% of college students, especially in males. All the students had no vitamin E adequacy. In addition, our findings showed that BMI was inversely associated with serum α-tocopherol, but not serum retinol.
These results suggest that vitamin E deficiency in college students should be given more attention, and it is necessary to consider using vitamin E supplements.

Analysis of the relationship between the methylation profile of miR-9-1 or miRs -9-1 / -9-3 and Diabetic Retinopathy.
Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a frequent complication of Diabetes mellitus and it has a decisive impact on quality of life, as it is one of the biggest causes of blindness adult population. Levels of microRNA-9 have been shown to be related to diabetes but little is known about its involvement with DR in humans.
To analyze the relationship between the methylation profile of miR-9-1 or miRs -9-1/-9-3 and DR.
103 patients diagnosed with diabetes for 5 to 10 years were analyzed. The data were categorized according to clinical, biochemical, lifestyle and anthropometric parameters. DNA extracted from leukocyte samples was used to determine the methylation profile of miRs-9-1 and -9-3 using a specific methylation PCR assay.
miR-9-1 methylation was related to diabetic retinopathy; indicating that methylation of this miR increases the chances of presenting retinopathy up to 5 times. In our analyzes, diabetics with lower levels of creatinine and CRP, showed significant reductions (99% and 97%) of presenting DR. Methylation of both miRs-9-1 and 9-3 methylated increases the chances of presenting DR by 8 times; in addition, a sedentary lifestyle can increase the risk for the same complication by up to 6 times.
Our results suggest that both methylation of miR-9-1 and e miRs-9-1 / 9-3 favors DR in patients with diabetes in the period of 5 to 10 years of diagnosis.

Currently, diabetes mellitus (DM) as well as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are major public health issues worldwide.
It has been suggested that patients with DM are more vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 infection and suffer from more severe forms of the disease.
A literature search was performed using PubMed, Scopus and Google search engines.
Angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) is the major receptor of SARS-CoV-2 in the human host. The differential expression of ACE2 in the lungs of patients with DM makes them more susceptible to COVID-19. Additionally, acute or chronic hyperglycemia renders individuals in an immune-suppressive state, with impaired innate and adaptive immunity function, contributing also to the severity of COVID-19 infection among patients with DM. Other factors contributing to a more severe course of COVID-19 include the co-existence of obesity in T2DM; the endothelial inflammation induced by the SARS-CoV-2 ire COVID-19, dexamethasone and remdesivir, may cause hyperglycemia, an adverse effect that physicians should bear in mind, when caring for patients with DM and COVID-19.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by repetitive behaviours, cognitive rigidity/inflexibility, and social-affective impairment. Unfortunately, no gold-standard treatments exist to alleviate the core socio-behavioural impairments of ASD. Meanwhile, the prosocial empathogen/entactogen 3,4- methylene-dioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) is known to enhance sociability and empathy in both humans and animal models of psychological disorders.
We review the evidence obtained from behavioural tests across the current literature, showing how MDMA can induce prosocial effects in animals and humans, where controlled experiments were able to be performed.
Six electronic databases were consulted. The search strategy was tailored to each database. Only Englishlanguage papers were reviewed. Behaviours not screened in this review may have affected the core ASD behaviours studied. Molecular analogues of MDMA have not been investigated.
We find that the social impairments may potentially be alleviated by postnatal administration of MDMA producing prosocial behaviours in mostly the animal model.
