172; p = 0.047), which linearly declined with SWM levels. Dietary SWM inclusion only influenced (p less then 0.05) mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular concentration, and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration. We concluded that seaweeds have the potential to be used as a feed ingredient for indigenous chickens. The persistence of multidrug resistance among microorganisms has directed a mandate towards a hunt for the development of alternative therapeutic modalities. In this context, antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is sprouted as a novel strategy to mitigate biofilms and planktonic cells of pathogens. Nanoparticles (NPs) are reported with unique intrinsic and antimicrobial properties. Therefore, silver NPs (AgNPs) were investigated in this study to determine their ability to potentiate the aPDT of photosensitizer against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Biologically synthesized AgNPs were surface coated with methylene blue (MB) and studied for their aPDT against planktonic cells and biofilms of bacteria. The nano-conjugates (MB-AgNPs) were characterized for their size, shape and coated materials. MB-AgNPs showed significant phototoxicity against both forms of test bacteria and no toxicity was observed in the dark. Moreover, activity of MB-AgNPs was comparatively higher than that of the free MB, which concludes that MB-AgNPs could be an excellent alternative to combat antibiotic resistant bacteria.Citric acid (CA) can be found naturally in fruits and vegetables, particularly citrus fruit. CA is widely used in many fields but its usage as a green modifying agent and binder for wood is barely addressed. Esterification is one of the most common chemical reactions applied in wood modification. CA contains three carboxyl groups, making it possible to attain at least two esterification reactions that are required for crosslinking when reacting with the hydroxyl groups of the cell wall polymers. In addition, the reaction could form ester linkages to bring adhesivity and good bonding characteristics, and therefore CA could be used as wood binder too. This paper presents a review concerning the usage of CA as a wood modifying agent and binder. For wood modification, the reaction mechanism between wood and CA and the pros and cons of using CA are discussed. CA and its combination with various reactants and their respective optimum parameters are also compiled in this paper. As for the major wood bonding component, the bonding mechanism and types of wood composites bonded with CA are presented. The best working conditions for the CA in the fabrication of wood-based panels are discussed. In addition, the environmental impacts and future outlook of CA-treated wood and bonded composite are also considered. The decentralization of the provision of health services at the subnational level produces variations in healthcare offered to asylum seekers (ASs) across the different Italian regions, even if they are entitled to healthcare through the national health service. The present study aims to map the healthcare path and regional policies for ASs upon arrival and identify challenges and best practices. This is a multicentric, qualitative study of migrant health policies and practices at the regional level within four Italian regions. Ivarmacitinib For the analysis, a dedicated tool for the systematic comparison of policies and practices was developed. The collection and analysis of data demonstrated the presence of many items of international recommendations, even if many gaps exist and differences between regions remain. The analysis of practices permitted the identification of three models of care and access. Some aspects identified are as follows fragmentation and barriers to access; a weakness in or lack of a governance system, with the presence of many actors involved; variability in the response between territories. The inclusion of ASs in healthcare services requires intersectoral actions, involving healthcare sectors and other actors within local social structures, in order to add value to local resources and practices, reinforce networks and contribute to social integration.Nowadays, the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at trace levels (down to ppb) is feasible by exploiting ultra-sensitive and highly selective chemoresistors, especially in the field of medical diagnosis. By coupling metal oxide semiconductors (MOS e.g., SnO2, ZnO, WO3, CuO, TiO2 and Fe2O3) with innovative carbon-based materials (graphene, graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, single-wall and multi-wall carbon nanotubes), outstanding performances in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, limits of detection, response and recovery times towards specific gaseous targets (such as ethanol, acetone, formaldehyde and aromatic compounds) can be easily achieved. Notably, carbonaceous species, highly interconnected to MOS nanoparticles, enhance the sensor responses by (i) increasing the surface area and the pore content, (ii) favoring the electron migration, the transfer efficiency (spillover effect) and gas diffusion rate, (iii) promoting the active sites concomitantly limiting the nanopowders agglomeration; and (iv) forming nano-heterojunctions. Herein, the aim of the present review is to highlight the above-mentioned hybrid features in order to engineer novel flexible, miniaturized and low working temperature sensors, able to detect specific VOC biomarkers of a human's disease. An in vitro cell transformation assay (CTA) is useful for the detection of non-genotoxic carcinogens (NGTXCs); however, it does not provide information on their modes of action. In this study, to pursue a mechanism-based approach in the risk assessment of NGTXCs, we aimed to develop an integrated strategy comprising an in vitro Bhas 42 CTA and global DNA methylation analysis. For this purpose, 10 NGTXCs, which were also predicted to be negative through Derek/Sarah structure-activity relationship analysis, were first tested for transforming activity in Bhas 42 cells. Methylation profiles using reduced representation bisulfite sequencing were generated for seven NGTXCs that were positive in CTAs. In general, the differentially methylated regions (DMRs) within promoter regions showed slightly more bias toward hypermethylation than the DMRs across the whole genome. We also identified 13 genes associated with overlapping DMRs within the promoter regions in four NGTXCs, of which seven were hypermethylated and six were hypomethylated.
