Recreational activities in coastal waters that are polluted by enteric viruses can result in gastroenteritis etc. In this study, the pollution profiles of enteric viruses were examined in the coastal area of Tokyo Bay, Japan, by collecting 57 water samples from three different depths (0.5 m, 3.0 m, and 5.0 m) during and after a series of heavy rainfall events. Vertically spatial and temporal changes in the concentrations of NoV genogroup I (GI) and genogroup II (GII), pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV), and Aichi virus (AiV) were determined using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, while those of the bacterial indicator, Escherichia coli, and F-specific RNA bacteriophages (FRNA phages) were monitored using culture methods. PMMoV was highly abundant (1.4 × 104-6.8 × 106 genome copies/L), whereas the concentrations of the other enteric viruses were relatively low (AiV, 1.3 × 102-2.9 × 104; GI, 2.9 × 10-5.6 × 103; GII, 2.5 × 10-1.2 × 104 genome copies/L). All of the viruses showed lower fluctuations in concentration than E. coli, which increased up to 460-fold after the rainfall event and then decreased over the subsequent two weeks. The maximum vertical difference in E. coli concentration was observed immediately after the rainfall. The E. coli reached the surface and then gradually spread down, whereas the virus concentrations exhibited few fluctuations due to the remaining effects of the previous combined sewer overflows. These findings indicate that viruses have a relatively long retention period over fecal indicator bacteria in this coastal area. This study evaluates the effects of a six-pesticide mixture at doses around the no-observed-adverse-effectlevels (0 × NOAEL, control) and 0.25, 1 and 5 × NOAEL on behavior of Wistar rats. In the groups exposed to pesticides mixture, the trends were different, showing that the exposure to pesticides combined with repeated trials, also influence the response of the animals. The resultsdemonstrate the occurrence of several dose-dependent behavioral responses, with negative effects occurring at doses that are considered safe. This study provides novel insights about time-dependent mixtures biology, and an important perspective to consider when conducting risk assessments. The occurrence and air-sea gas exchange of hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs), and chlordanes were determined in the Northwest Pacific Ocean (NWP) in spring to elucidate their current pollution status and fate. ΣHCHs, ΣDDTs, and Σchlordanes in air (sum of gaseous and aerosol phase) ranged from 9.37 to 102, from 1.73 to 12.8, and from 0.24 to 14.9 pg/m3, respectively, with their dissolved levels being 30.7-518, 7.10-80.5, and 0.25-7.10 pg/L, respectively. HCHs, DDTs, and chlordanes cause substantial contamination of the air and seawater of the East China Sea (ECS), indicating significant OCP inputs from China. Isomer ratios of HCHs and DDTs provided a fingerprint of East Asian emissions of legacy OCPs, with the pollution profiles of HCHs and DDTs dominated by lindane and combined dicofol-type and weathered technical DDTs, respectively. The former result is consistent with the apparent decline in air α-HCH levels over the ECS. Different from still net deposition of gaseous α- and γ-HCH in the NWP, outgassing of trans-chlordane, cis-chlordane, and DDTs other than dicofol-sourced o,p'-DDT was indicated. This observation attributes to intensive historical usage of technical HCHs and the prevalence of lindane pollution in East Asia, and demonstrates the transitioning role of seawater as a source for residual OCPs in the East Asia-NWP region. Significant subcooled liquid vapor pressure-based relationships for legacy OCPs were identified mainly in marine air masses; these were different from land-sourced polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and suggested a heterogeneous role of ocean- and land-based sources in atmospheric partitioning of these pollutants. Epiphytic biofilms are complex matrix-enclosed communities comprising large numbers of bacteria and algae, which play an important role in the biogeochemical cycles in aquatic systems. However, little is known about the correlations that occur between these communities or the relative impact of environmental factors on their composition. In this study, epiphytic biofilms on three different aquatic plants were sampled in a typical plateau lake (Caohai, southwest China) in July and November of 2018. Bacterial diversity was assessed using Miseq sequencing approaches and algal communities were assessed using light microscopy. Gammaproteobacteria (54.64%), Bacteroidetes (17.50%) and Firmicutes (13.99%) were the dominant bacterial taxa and Chlorophyta (47.62%), Bacillariophyta (28.57%) and Euglenophyta (19.05%) were the dominant algae. The alpha diversity values of the epiphytic bacterial and algal communities were greater during the macrophyte decline period (November) than during the growth period (July). Microbial community composition was significantly affected by abiotic factors (water temperature, NH4+, pH or TP) and biotic factors (algae or bacteria).
