Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreas is a mucin-producing tumor that develops from the epithelial lining of the main pancreatic duct or branch pancreatic ducts. Here, we assessed the feasibility and safety of various robotic pancreatectomy approaches to treating IPMN, and short- and long-term outcomes of robotic IPMN resection.

Data from patients who underwent robotic pancreatectomy for IPMN between 2012 and 2019 at our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. The survival outcomes for patients were compared using the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis.

Of the 174 patients who underwent robotic pancreatectomy, 120 and 54 patients had benign or malignant tumors, respectively. Patients with malignant IPMN had lost more weight in the 6months prior to surgery (P=.008), and a higher serum level of CA19-9 (P<.001) and CEA (P<.001). Postoperative pancreatic or biliary fistula occurred in 17 or 6 patients overall, respectively. The pathology of the IPMN (P=.030), tumor diameter (P=.016), mural nodule (P=.023), tumor capsule (P=.003) and CA19-9 (P=.024) values were all independent risk factors for survival. The median OS time after surgical resection for the malignant IPMN group was 29.0months (range, 21.6-36.4). The OS was significantly different in patients with IPMN according to their different pathology, tumor capsule, mural nodule group, CA19-9 level, or tumor diameter.

This large-scale survey of 174 patients indicated that various robotic pancreatectomy approaches were feasible and safe for IPMN. Patients had an acceptable prognosis, indicating that robotic pancreatectomy represents a feasible potential therapeutic strategy for IPMN.

In the recent outbreak of COVID-19, many countries have enacted various kinds of quarantine measures to slow down the explosive spread of COVID-19. Although these measures were proven to be successful in stopping the outbreak in China, the potential adverse effects of countrywide quarantine have not been thoroughly investigated.

In this study, we performed an online survey to evaluate the psychological effects of quarantine using the Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale in February 2020 when the outbreak had nearly peaked in China. Along with the anxiety scores, limited personal information, such as age, gender, region, education, occupation, and specifically, the type and duration of quarantine, was collected for analysis.

From a total of 992 valid questionnaires from 23 provinces in China, clinically significant anxiety symptoms were observed in 9.58% of respondents according to clinical diagnostic standards in China. The specific groups of people showing higher levels of anxiety were (a) adolescents (<18years); (b) respondents with education lower than junior high school; (c) people with chronic diseases; and (d) frontline medical personnel. Other characteristics, such as gender, marital status, region, and acquaintance with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19, did not affect anxiety levels significantly. Respondents who experienced different forms of quarantine showed different anxiety levels. People undergoing centralized quarantine have higher levels of anxiety. Unexpectedly, longer durations of quarantine did not lead to a significant increase in anxiety level.

Our results suggest a rather mild psychological influence caused by the countrywide quarantine during the COVID-19 outbreak in China and provide a reference for other countries and regions battling COVID-19.

Pt1 exhibits ratiometric dual emission, including rare blue emission (λem =445 nm) and assembly-induced yellow emission (λem =573 nm), under one- and two-photon excitation. Pt1 displays blue emission in cells with an intact membrane due to its low cellular uptake. In cells where the membrane is disrupted, uptake of the complex is increased and at higher concentrations yellow emission is observed. The ratio of yellow to blue emission shows a linear relationship to the loss of cell membrane integrity. Pt1 is, to our knowledge, the first example of an assembly-induced two-photon ratiometric dual emission organoplatinum complex. The excellent and unique characteristics of the complex enabled its use for the tracking of cell apoptosis, necrosis, and the inflammation process in zebrafish.
In the hub and spoke laboratory network, the number of hematology analyzers (HAs) within each core center has increased, and the control of HAs alignment is becoming necessary requirement to ensure analytical quality. In this scenario, HA alignment can be assessed by analyzing the same control material used for internal quality control on multiple HAs, assuming its commutability. The aim of the study was to verify the applicability of a protocol for the alignment of HAs based on control material rather than on fresh whole-blood samples.

The alignment of five HAs was evaluated for red (RBC, Hb, MCV, RET), white (WBC, NE, LY, MO, EO, BA, IG), and platelet (PLT) series parameters, following a protocol by SIBioC, using human sample (HS) and quality control material (QC), after the verification of commutability, according to the IFCC protocol. Maximum bias was derived from biological variation data.

A complete alignment between instruments was confirmed for the majority of the parameters investigated both for HS and QC material. Partial misalignments or inconcludent results were instead evident for MCV, MO, EO, BA, and IG. Interestingly, QC material was found to be not commutable for LY, MO, and BA.

The alignment of hematologic analyzers for main cell population parameters may be verified with both QC and HS, displaying consistent results and interpretation. The evaluation for some white series parameters (EO, BA, and IG) is critical, and particular attention must be paid to the values of the material used for the alignment.
