To report the 5-year occurrence, management, and outcomes of 12 eyes diagnosed as having central toxic keratopathy (CTK) after femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK).

A retrospective chart review was conducted on 20,622 FS-LASIK procedures performed at a single site from January 2015 to December 2019 to identify patients diagnosed as having central toxic keratopathy. Preoperative and postoperative visual acuity, refraction, and imaging were recorded and analyzed.

CTK occurred in 12 eyes of 8 patients after FSLASIK. A total of 75% of eyes were diagnosed during an outbreak that happened over 2 months and the remaining 25% were considered sporadic. Five eyes were treated with flap lift and irrigation and 7 eyes were treated non-surgically. The average time to resolution of CTK in eyes that underwent flap lift and irrigation was 53 days compared to 33 days in eyes treated non-surgically. All 5 eyes treated with flap lift and irrigation ultimately achieved uncorrected distance visual acuity of 0.1 logMAR or better, whereas only 3 of 7 eyes treated non-surgically achieved the same. At the final postoperative visit, the eyes treated with flap lift and irrigation measured on average 14 µm thinner and 1.60 diopters (D) flatter than the expected postoperative pachymetry and keratometry, respectively. Those treated non-surgically were on average 28 µm thinner and 1.70 D flatter than expected.

To evaluate the visual outcomes of patients with presbyopic hyperopia, comparing the current standard of monovision treatment with a novel bilateral presbyopic LASIK (Custom-Q mode) technique.

This prospective comparative study of consecutive eligible patients with presbyopic hyperopia undergoing a bilateral presbyopic laser in situ keratomileusis technique was conducted between January 2018 and February 2019. After contact lens-simulated monovision measurements were obtained, the non-dominant eyes had a negative aspheric ablation profile planned using the Custom-Q nomogram (Alcon Laboratories, Inc). The dominant eye was operated on with a positive aspheric ablation profile. Visual acuity testing, refraction, corneal asphericity (▵Q), higher order aberrations, and a satisfaction questionnaire (National Eye Institute Refractive Error Quality of Life) were evaluated after the monovision trial and postoperatively.

To compare the 2-year visual and refractive outcomes with the Eyecryl Phakic Toric IOL (EP TIOL) (Biotech Vision Care Pvt Ltd) and Visian Toric ICL (TICL) (STAAR Surgical) for correction of high myopic astigmatism.

This prospective, interventional, non-randomized comparison study included eligible patients who underwent toric phakic IOL surgery in one or both eyes with either the EP TIOL or TICL for myopic astigmatism. Two years postoperatively, both lenses were compared for their safety, efficacy, stability, and patient satisfaction. Vector analysis of astigmatism was performed using the Alpins method with the ASSORT software (ASSORT Party Ltd).

A total of 50 eyes were included, of which 25 eyes received EP TIOL implantation and the remaining 25 received TICL implantation. Preoperative mean ± standard deviation of spherical equivalent (SE) and cylinder was -10.15 ± 4.04 and -2.08 ± 0.86 diopters (D) in the EP TIOL group and -10.21 ± 3.97 and -2.17 ± 0.95 D in the TICL group, respectively. In the present study, we investigated intrahepatic and muscle fat, visceral and subcutaneous fat pads, plasma metabolic profile and skeletal muscle inflammatory markers in response to 12-week aerobic exercise in an obese rodent model. Six-week-old male Wistar rats (n=20) were randomized to chow-fed control (Control, n=5), sedentary high-fat diet (HFD, n=5), chow-fed exercise (Exercise, n=5) and HFD-fed exercise (HFD+Exercise, n=5) groups. The exercise groups were subjected to 12 weeks of motorized treadmill running at a speed of 18 m/min for 30 min/day. Differences in post-intervention measures were assessed by analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), adjusted for baseline bodyweight and pre-intervention measures, where available.
