Our findings may provide evidence and a reference for the development of palliative home care in China.In this paper, we report a new type of MoS2-based grating sensor for in-plane biaxial strain gauges with a precision limit of ~ 1‰. The MoS2 grating is numerically simulated with different biaxial strains up to 5%. Our first-principles calculations reveal that the strain sensitivity of the MoS2 reflectance spectrum can be considered an additional strain sensor integrated with the grating structure, enabling the mapping of in-plane biaxial strains. Our experimental studies on a prototype MoS2-grating sensor further confirm that a strain component perpendicular to the grating period can cause intensity peak shifts in the grating's first-order diffraction patterns. This work opens a new path towards the sensing of in-plane biaxial strain within a single-grating device. Our new approach is applicable for other materials that have predictable reflectance response under biaxial strains and the capacity to form a two-dimensional single-crystal layer.The continuing COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the Fall reopening plans among institutions of higher education (IHEs) in the United States (U.S.). While recommendations were made to conduct COVID-19 testing of students and staff, it is unclear as to what extent IHEs were able to engage in testing. IHEs also play a critical role in provision of accurate information related to COVID-19 to students and staff. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to assess available information on COVID-19 testing on IHEs' websites in the New York City (NYC) metropolitan area. IHEs' websites were screened for the presence of content related to COVID-19 testing. Larger institutions (> 10,000 students) were more likely than smaller institutions (≤ 5000 students) to provide information on how to make an appointment for COVID-19 testing (χ2(2) = 8.1, P less then 0.05), and information on free testing (χ2(2) = 7.0, P less then 0.05). Of 150 IHEs included, 124 (82.7%) IHE's reported testing data to the campus community, with the majority providing this data biweekly (62.9%). A total of 116 IHEs recorded at least one positive COVID-19 case among their students or staff during the Fall semester. Additional differences related to testing modalities and provision of information were observed according to schools' state jurisdictions. Although geographically close, IHEs in the NYC metropolitan area did not provide information on COVID-19 testing in a uniform and comprehensive fashion, which may further contribute to public confusion.

There are several immune-mediated diseases described after acute streptococcal infections. Post-streptococcal reactive arthritis (PSRA) is a sterile, self-limiting arthritis that occur as an immune sequelae to streptococcal infection. Though PSRA resembles the arthritis of acute rheumatic fever superficially, it is a separate entity in its own right. It is different from classical reactive arthritis too. It was being recognized worldwide and more frequently in the recent past, possibly due to heightened awareness amongst clinicians. However, research on this enigmatic immune phenomenon is limited. Most acceptable hypotheses suggest molecular mimicry sensitizing the immune system towards synovial peptides such as keratine learnt from this unique disease about the vagaries of the immune system.
Uric acid (UA) has anti- and pro-inflammatory properties. We previously revealed that elevated serum UA levels provide protection against murine small intestinal injury probably via luminal UA secreted in the small intestine. Luminal UA may act as an antioxidant, preventing microbiota vulnerability to oxidative stress. However, whether luminal UA is increased under hyperuricemia and plays a protective role in a dose-dependent manner as well as the mechanism by which luminal UA exerts its protective effects on enteropathy remains unknown.
Inosinic acid (IMP) (1000mg/kg, i.p.) was administered to obtain high serum UA (HUA) and moderate serum UA (500mg/kg IMP, i.p.) mice. UA concentrations and levels of oxidative stress markers in the serum and intestine were measured. Mice received indomethacin (20mg/kg, i.p.) to evaluate the effects of UA on indomethacin-induced enteropathy. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) on the ileal mucosa were analyzed. The fecal microbiota of HUA mice was transplanted to investigate itsntial therapeutic target.
Patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) are at an increased risk of disease progression. The influence of hepatic steatosis (HS) to liver fibrosis was controversial. We aim to investigate the association between HS and liver fibrosis and explore the predicting factors for advanced fibrosis.
CHB patients undergoing liver biopsy with complete assessments of HS, necroinflammation grade [histological activity index (HAI) score], and fibrosis stage were retrospectively recruited. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the factors associated with advanced liver fibrosis.
In this cohort of 672 patients, 342 (50.9%) had HS and 267 (39.4%) were of advanced liver fibrosis. Age [odds ratio (OR) 1.026, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.007-1.046, p = 0.008], body mass index (BMI, OR 1.091, 95% CI 1.026-1.159, p = 0.005), genotype (C vs. B) (OR 2.790, 95% CI 1.847-4.214, p < 0.001), platelet (OR 0.986, 95% CI 0.982-0.991, p < 0.001), and HAI score (OR 1.197, 95% CI 1.114-1.285, p < 0.001) were independent factors for advanced liver fibrosis in multivariate logistic regression analysis.
