997, and the limit of detection was 2.57-4.87 μg kg-1. The recoveries of azoxystrobin, pyraclostrobin, and trifloxystrobin in rice, corn, and wheat were 82.0%-93.2%, and the relative standard deviations were 1.6%-7.4%. Therefore, the method was successfully applied to detect target fungicides in cereals.Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) and their corresponding N-oxides (PANOs) have been determined in food and feed at levels relevant for consumer health. More than 660 different PAs have been detected, but few are available as reference substances for analytical demands. In the context of the European legislation on maximum levels of PAs in food products, a defined analytical scope of 21 PAs for determination has been suggested. An expansion of the scope from 21 to 35 PAs, including 14 structural isomers, is currently under discussion. In the present study, a target screening method was established for a comprehensive characterisation of PA profiles of the species Echium vulgare, Heliotropium europaeum, Cynoglossum officinale and Symphytum spp. to assess whether an expansion of the analytical scope is required to quantitatively cover the total PA contents of Boraginaceae species. The scope of the method comprised known and unknown PAs previously screened and confirmed in the respective plant extracts. A total of 1on C9 of the necine base O9-monoester, relative proportion rel. prop., intraperitoneal i.p., intravenous i.v., higher-energy C-trap dissociation HCD, all-ion fragmentation AIF, parallel reaction monitoring PRM.An 11-day-old little blue penguin (Eudyptula minor) died unexpectedly. Prior to hatching, the egg experienced trauma and resultant defects were repaired. The chick hatched without complication and was clinically normal prior to death. Necropsy revealed congested lungs. Histologic examination showed moderate nonsuppurative encephalitis with focally extensive neuronal necrosis and intranuclear inclusions in neurons within necrotic foci. Herpesvirus DNA was detected in brain tissue with a generic herpesvirus polymerase chain reaction. find more Sanger sequencing demonstrated 100% and 98% sequence homology to sphenicid alphaherpesvirus 1 and penguin herpesvirus 2, respectively. In situ hybridization demonstrated large amounts of herpesvirus nucleic acid in intranuclear inclusions and neuronal nuclei. Combined histology, polymerase chain reaction, Sanger sequencing, and in situ hybridization results were most consistent with herpesviral encephalitis, most likely caused by sphenicid alphaherpesvirus 1. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a herpesvirus infection causing encephalitis in a penguin and the first report of herpesvirus in this species. To investigate the developmental changes of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and hemodynamic responses to changing neural activity, we used the arterial spin label (ASL) technique to measure resting CBF and simultaneous CBF / blood-oxygen-level dependent (BOLD) signal changes during visual stimulation in 97 typically developing children and young adults (age 13.35 [6.02, 25.25] (median [min, max]) years old at the first time point). The longitudinal study protocol included three MRIs (2.7 ± 0.06 obtained), one year apart, for each participant. Mixed-effect linear and non-linear statistical models were used to analyze age effects on CBF and BOLD signals. Resting CBF decreased exponentially with age (p = 0.0001) throughout the brain, and developmental trajectories differed across brain lobes. The absolute CBF increase in visual cortex during stimulation was constant over the age range, but the fractional CBF change increased with age (p = 0.0001) and the fractional BOLD signal increased with age (p = 0.0001) correspondingly. These findings suggest that the apparent neural hemodynamic coupling in visual cortex does not change after age six years, but age-related BOLD signal changes continue through adolescence primarily due to the changes with age in resting CBF.Deleted in malignant brain tumors 1 (DMBT1) is part of the innate immune system and is expressed on mucosal surfaces in various tissues throughout the human body. However, to date, the localization of DMBT1 has not been investigated systematically and comprehensively in normal human tissues. In this study, we analyzed the mRNA expression of DMBT1 in human tissue by quantitative real-time PCR and examined its localization and distribution in the tissue by immunohistochemical staining using the monoclonal DMBT1 antibody HYB213-6. Anti-ovalbumin was used as an isotype control. The highest level of mRNA expression of DMBT1 was found in the small intestine, and the expression level was high throughout the luminal digestive tract. The expression of DMBT1 was especially high in the luminal digestive tract and salivary glands. The lowest expression level was found in the spleen. Immunohistochemical staining showed a high expression level of DMBT1 on mucosal surfaces throughout the body. There was a clear correlation between the mRNA expression and immunohistochemical expression of DMBT1 in the tissue. DMBT1 is strongly expressed on mucosal surfaces and in salivary glands.Case series summary This case series describes the postoperative ultrasonographic findings in six cats that underwent a cholecystoduodenostomy as treatment for extrahepatic biliary obstruction. The surgery site was identified in all six cats, most often within the right cranial abdomen as a thick-walled gall bladder, with a broad-based connection to the descending duodenum. Postoperatively, the biliary tree often remained distended, similar to its preoperative appearance. Recurrent extrahepatic biliary obstruction was suspected in three cats with worsening hyperbilirubinemia. Common bile duct distension was progressive in one of these cats and unchanged in another, but improved in the third. Intrahepatic bile duct distension resolved in one cat following surgery but reappeared with suspected recurrent biliary obstruction. In two cats, progressive echogenic biliary contents were associated with locally aggressive cholangiocarcinoma. Our findings suggest that in cats with cholecystoduodenostomy and progressive increases in hyperbilirubinemia following surgery, progressive or recurrent biliary distension and/or progressive echogenic biliary contents should prompt further investigation.
