LGBTQ&A: Continuing development of a new requirements evaluation to be able to define access, wants, and barriers to be able to medical care services among LGBTQ older adults.
In this pilot study, we used a mixed methods online survey to ask science popularizers how gender harassment influences the way they communicate science to the public. Popularizers reported that gender harassment caused the science popularization field to increasingly strive for gender inclusivity in the creation of content. However, harassment made female popularizers feel they must emphasize their legitimacy, quite conscious of their clothing choices, and wary of engaging the public through mediums or topics that provoke more severe harassment. Implications for science communication and public engagement are discussed.
Self-reported cognitive deficits in adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity-Disorder (ADHD) are often not corroborated by standardized tests. Tests and reports also differ in their correspondence to aspects of psychosocial functioning. Executive function tasks (EF-tasks) using material close to daily life, may provide a more ecologically-valid assessment of cognitive deficits.

36 adults with ADHD and 36 healthy controls performed standardized EF-tasks and corresponding EF-tasks using material close to daily life and gave self-reports on cognitive functioning. The study investigated performance differences and the predictive utility of cognitive measures for psychosocial functioning.

While all the self-reports showed substantial cognitive impairments for the ADHD group, this was only shown in some of task measures. For two domains, the deficits in EF-tasks with material close to daily life were similar or smaller than assessed with traditional measures. However, three tasks, which used material of daily lihey could also be used as outcome measures in intervention studies.
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a multisystemic disorder with variable systemic involvement which varies according to genotype. In this study, our aim is to compare ocular complications between HbSS, HbSC, HbS/β+thalassemia, HbS/β0 thalassemia, SS alpha thalassemia, and S/β0 +alpha thalassemia genotypes.

Data of patients included in this study was recruited from the Cooperative Study of Sickle Cell Disease (CSSCD). Patients with major sickle cell hemoglobinopathies (SS, SC, Sβ- thalassemia, SS alpha thalassemia) were eligible for enrollment, after that, a detailed eye exam was performed. We categorized ocular complications into conjunctival sign, iris atrophy, and both proliferative and non-proliferative sickle cell retinopathy.

A total of 1867 patients were included in this study, with a mean age of 27.7 (± 11.7) years. They were 830 (44.5%) males and 1037 (55.5%) females. The most common genotype was SS with 971 (52%) patients, and the least common form was sickle cell with both alpha and beta thalassemia major with 42 (2.2%) patients. We found a significant difference in the frequency of proliferative sickle cell retinopathy, where SC genotype had the highest frequency and S B0 thalassemia genotype had the lowest frequency. We also found a significant difference in the frequency of conjunctival sign, where SS genotype had the highest frequency and the S B+thalassemia has the lowest frequency.

We identified ocular complications for major sickle cell hemoglobinopathies, where we confirmed previous small study's findings and identified ocular complications of less common hemoglobinopathies.

Method Eighty-four eighth-grade students who struggle with literacy participated in this study. The experimental group (n = 36) received the writing intervention of metalinguistic sentence combining (MSC) during their science class for a total of 400 min (20 intervention sessions, 20 min each), while the comparison group (n = 48) participated in their typical science instruction. Tat-BECN1 activator Total science instruction time was held constant for both groups. All students completed pretests and posttests to determine an increase in (a) syntactic factors of academic science text such as longer sentence length and use of syntactic forms of connectives, targeted connectives, left embeddedness, and agentless passive voice when responding to a science compare and contrast writing prompt; and (b) listing similarities and differences between two science concepts on a graphic organizer. Results Treatment was effective in improving the experimental group's score in listing similarities and differences between two science concepts on a graphic organizer. There were no significant differences between the two groups in their use of syntactic factors typical of academic text when responding to a science compare and contrast writing prompt. Conclusions MSC was effective in improving the experimental student's ability to demonstrate understanding of comparison and contrast in science. Modifications to the MSC intervention may yield better results in the experimental group's posttreatment writing in future studies. With few effective treatments, it remains a significant challenge. Commercially available drugs for neuropathic pain are still limited and have disappointing efficacy. Therefore, chronic neuropathic pain imposes a tremendous burden on patients' quality of life. Recently, the introduction and application of nanotechnology in multiple fields has accelerated the development of new drugs. This review highlights the application of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanomaterial-based vehicles for drug delivery and how they improve the therapeutic outcomes for neuropathic pain treatment. Finally, future developments for pain research and effective management are presented.
