O-Specific Antigen-Dependent Surface Hydrophobicity Mediates Aggregate Assembly Type Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
To evaluate the inner retinal layers in fibromyalgia (FM) patients compared to control subjects using posterior pole protocol (PPole) analysis in optical coherence tomography (OCT) and to correlate structural retinal changes with subjective quality of life.

Seventy-four eyes of healthy subjects and 55 eyes of those with FM were analyzed. All subjects underwent retinal evaluation using the PPole protocol for Spectralis OCT (Heidelberg Engineering) to obtain measurements of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and the ganglion cell layer (GCL) in the macular area. The EuroQol (EQ-5D) questionnaire and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) were performed to analyze health-related quality of life. Additionally, the FM group was divided into three groups depending on the disease phenotype (atypical, depressive and biological).

Patients with FM presented with a reduction of the RNFL thickness compared to controls in 17/64 cells of the PPole area, and a reduction of the GCL thickness in 47/64 cells. Depressive FM phenotype showed the greatest number of cells with significant reduction compared with the control group in both RNFL and GCL layers. A correlation between temporal-inferior cells of the GCL and the EuroQol 5D questionnaire results was observed.

The PPole protocol for OCT is a non-invasive and fast tool that might help clinicians diagnose and monitor neurodegeneration in FM patients.

Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP), the chief active component in goji berry, has been used to treat hypertension, atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases in Chinese traditional medicine. However, the underlying effects of LBP- mediated activity in blood glucose and lipid metabolism remain poorly understood. The present study aims to apply the meta-analysis to explore the healthy effects of LBP. Eligible studies published up to November 15, 2020, were searched and identified from CNKI, Pubmed, Web of Science, Cocharane library detabases. A total of 315 publications were retrieved and 7 articles were included. The STATA (version 11.0) was applied to process the meta-analysis. The pooled estimate showed that daily consumption of LBP played significant effects on regulating serum triglyceride (TG), fasting blood glucose, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) concentrations (p  less then  0.05), while it was effect-free on the total cholesterol (TC). The present study provided a better understanding of current research status and suggested that LBP could play potential role in prevention and therapy for non-communicable chronic diseases, and more scientific evidence are required in the future.Key teaching pointsGoji berry and LBP, its main biologically active ingredient, have a wide range of health promotion effects.The supplement of LBP may played significant effects on regulating serum TG, HDL, LDL and FBG concentrations.Goji may serve as a potential drug to prevent and treat chronic non-communicable diseases in the future.Healthy dietary patterns containing goji berries will be a new choice for consumers in the future.Many factors are related to vaccination intentions. However, gender differences in the determinants of intention to get the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine have not been fully investigated. This study examined gender differences in the determinants of willingness to get the COVID-19 vaccine among the working-age population in Japan. We conducted a cross-sectional study of Japanese citizens aged 20-65 years using an online self-administered questionnaire in December 2020. Logistic regression analysis was performed. Among 27,036 participants (13,814 men and 13,222 women), the percentage who were willing to get the COVID-19 vaccine was lower among women than among men (33.0% vs. 41.8%). Age and education level showed a gender gap regarding the association with willingness to get the COVID-19 vaccine men who were older or had a higher level of education were more willing to get the vaccine, whereas women aged 30-49 years and those with a higher level of education showed a relatively low willingness to get the vaccine. For both men and women, marriage, higher annual household income, underlying disease, current smoking, vaccination for influenza during the current season, and fear of COVID-19 transmission were linked to a higher likelihood of being willing to get the COVID-19 vaccine. These findings give important insight into identifying target groups in need of intervention regarding COVID-19 vaccination, especially among women. Providing education about COVID-19 and influenza vaccination in the workplace may be an effective strategy to increase COVID-19 vaccine uptake.
