We extend the theory of Ivanov et al. for the adsorption constant Ka to diblock molecules; it predicts accurately the dependence of Ka and the adsorption heat on the surfactant structure. An invariant phase diagram of the monolayers is constructed.Microencapsulation helps to improve bioavailability of a functional whey protein, lactoferrin (Lf), in adults. Herein, we report the Lf loading capacity (LC) and retention efficiency (RE) in the microparticles of surface-reacted calcium carbonate (SRCC) of different types and compare them to those of widely used vaterite microparticles. The LCs and REs are analyzed in connection to the total surface area and the volume of intraparticle pores. The best performing SRCC3 demonstrates Lf LC of 11.00 wt% achieved in a single absorption step and 74% RE after two cycles of washing with deionized water. A much larger surface area of SRCC templates and a lower pH required to release Lf do not affect its antitumor activity in MCF-7 assay. Saracatinib Layer-by-Layer assembly of pepsin-tannic acid multilayer shell around Lf-loaded microparticles followed by acidic decomposition of the inorganic core produces microencapsulated Lf with a yield ~36 times higher than from vaterite templates reported earlier, while the scale of encapsulated Lf production is ~12,000 times larger. In vitro digestion tests demonstrate the protection of ~65% of encapsulated Lf from gastric digestion. The developed capsules are prospective candidates for functional foods fortified with Lf.In this work, Cu2O/Cu(2-MeIm)2 core-shell structure was designed and used as an anode for potassium-ion batteries. The Cu2O core not only ensured a high energy density through surface redox reactions, but also served as a copper-ion reservoir to keep the stability of skeleton structure of Cu(2-MeIm)2 shell during electrochemical process. The Cu(2-MeIm)2 shell, in turn, not only provided high power through rapid K+ adsorption/desorption, but also acted as an artificial solid electrolyte interphase layer and accommodated volumetric change during K+ intercalation/de-intercalation. The as-designed composite material was studied by X-ray diffraction, thermo gravimetric, Fourier transform infrared, nitrogen adsorption-desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic and electron microscopic characterizations. As an anode for potassium-ion batteries, it was galvanostatically discharged and charged to study its electrochemical properties, such as Coulombic efficiency, capacity retention and rate performance, and cyclic voltammetry curves were also tested to reveal its K-storage mechanism.Herein, we report results of the studies relating to the fabrication of yttria-doped zirconia-reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite (nYZR) based biosensing platform for detection of salivary CYFRA-21-1 biomarker. The nYZR nanocomposite was hydrothermally synthesized and amine-functionalized using 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES). This functionalized nanocomposite (APTES/nYZR) was electrophoretically deposited (45 V; 3 min) onto pre-hydrolyzed indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrate (APTES/nYZR/ITO) followed by biofunctionalization via covalent immobilization of the anti-CYFRA-21-1 antibodies (anti-CYFRA-21-1/APTES/nYZR/ITO). The synthesized nanomaterial and the fabricated electrodes were characterized to investigate crystal structure, morphology and electrochemical properties via X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The fabricated biosensing electrode (BSA/anti-CYFRA-21-1/APTES/nYZR/ITO) has an operating shelf life of 56 days and can be used to detect salivary CYFRA-21-1 biomarker concentration as low as 7.2 pg mL-1 with wide linear detection range of 0.01-50 ng mL-1. This work opens new opportunities to explore the electrochemical behavior of nanostructured yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) and its composites at room temperature and its utility in developing biosensors and other electrochemical devices.
Although midwifery-led continuity of care is associated with superior outcomes for mothers and babies, it is not available to all women. Issues with implementation and sustainability might be addressed by improving how it is led and managed - yet little is known about what constitutes the optimal leadership and management of midwifery-led continuity models.
Following a systematic search of academic databases for relevant publications, 25 publications were identified. These were analysed, thematically to clarify (dis)similar themes, and lexically, to clarify how words within the publications travelled together.
The publications were replete with three key themes. First, leadership - important yet challenged. Second, management of organisational change; barriers and enhancers. Third, promotors of sustainable models of care. Complementarily, the lexical analysis suggests that references to midwives and leadership among the publications did not typically travel together, as reported in the publications and ses on leadership rather than on the leader.
Instead of focusing on leaders and the presumption of a leadership scarcity, it might be more beneficial to start focusing within, looking with a new lens on leadership within midwifery at all levels. It might also be constructive for the profession to investigate a more progressive form of leadership, one that is relational and focuses on leadership rather than on the leader.
To explore if and how women perceived their prenatal care to have changed as a result of COVID-19 and the impact of those changes on pregnant women.
Qualitative analysis of open-ended prompts included as part of an anonymous, online, cross-sectional survey of pregnant women in the United States.
Online survey with participants from 47 states within the U.S.
Self-identified pregnant women recruited through Facebook, Twitter, and other online sources.
An anonymous, online survey of pregnant women (distributed April 3 - 24, 2020) included an open-ended prompt asking women to tell us how COVID-19 had affected their prenatal care. Open-ended narrative responses were downloaded into Excel and coded using the Attride-Sterling Framework. 2519 pregnant women from 47 states responded to the survey, 88.4% of whom had at least one previous birth. Mean age was 32.7 years, mean weeks pregnant was 24.3 weeks, and mean number of prenatal visits at the point of the survey was 6.5. Predominant themes of the open narratives included COVID-19's role in creating structural changes within the healthcare system (reported spontaneously by 2075 respondents), behavioral changes among both pregnant women and their providers (reported by 429 respondents), and emotional consequences for women who were pregnant (reported by 503 respondents) during the pandemic.
