Quilt Togs Explained
When you're using a blanket with weights, it's important to select the appropriate duvet. Tog ratings are only a rough guide, and shouldn't be the sole consideration when selecting the right quilt.
Ideally, your summer duvet should weigh less and rated at least 2 togs. The first duvets for children should be of a low weight (3 to 4.5 tog). There are also special cot quilts designed for children.
Weighted Blankets
Weighted blankets are popular for their soothing, calming effect as well as potential health benefits. They weigh more than standard blankets. They typically have layers of fabric filled tiny plastic or glass beads that provide the feeling of a warm hug. Some experts believe that the additional pressure of these beads could trigger the production of natural "happiness" hormones, such as dopamine and serotonin, while decreasing cortisol levels, which can cause stress.
Typically, these blankets come in various sizes and weights to accommodate different sleepers. The majority of people find that the ideal weight is less than 10% of their body weight, however, this can vary among individuals, which is why it's important to experiment with the weight of the blanket to find the level of comfort and safety you feel.
These blankets aren't only calming for most people but they can also be a fantastic option for those suffering from anxiety disorders. Anxiety is a feeling that we all experience however it can become problematic when it interferes with our daily lives. Anxiety disorders cause your heartbeat to increase and your breathing rate to quicken. This can make you feel anxious and stressed. This can cause a lack in energy, depression and difficulty falling asleep.
Cotton is a popular choice for blankets with weights since it is breathable and soft. It's also possible to find blankets that are filled with other materials such as rice or sand, to meet the needs of different people and preferences. It is important to choose the blanket made of an material that is safe for your body and skin since you'll be sleeping directly on it.
It's also important to consider the way in which the blanket will be used before making a decision on the size and weight of the filling. Certain blankets are filled with tiny polypellets made of plastic, which are light, but they can be rough and scratchy against the skin. Certain blankets are filled with glass beads, which give an elegant and silky feel. However they can be costly.
Summer Duvets
Duvets are a comfortable, cosy sleep. They are also much simpler to wash and care for than quilts. Duvets come with different tog ratings, allowing you to regulate the amount of warmth given to your body. While heavier duvets work well in summer, more tog ratings are ideal for winter.
Choose a summer duvet that is made of natural fibres. They should be light and ventilated. Cotton, linen and bamboo duvets are the best options. These fabrics are highly-breathable and regulate your body temperature, keeping your body cool while you sleep. They also wick moisture and help you avoid feeling hot while you sleep.
You can also opt for synthetic duvets, which are breathable and lightweight. These duvets are filled with hollow fibres or microfibres that are extremely breathable and are designed to help you to stay cool all night. These are typically hypoallergenic, making them ideal for those suffering from allergies or sensitive skin. They can be washed in the machine making them simple and easy to keep clean.
A duvet stuffed with an innovative filling derived from sustainable plants is a different option for summer. This new material is referred to as 'botanic'. It's it's incredibly breathable and lightweight. It helps regulate the body's temperature, keeping you dry and cool in the summer heat.
It's important that you make sure that your duvet is matched to your preferences for sleep. Some people prefer a cooler environment while others prefer a more substantial duvet. We recommend investing in an assortment of duvets that have different tog ratings. This will aid you in finding the perfect balance. This way, you can switch out your bedding for the season, making sure that you have the right tog rating for your personal comfort levels. You can also put a light blanket or throw on the bed to keep the temperature in check.
Winter Duvets
As the weather becomes colder you'll require a warmer duvet in order to stay warm and cozy all night. A winter duvet will have a higher tog rating compared to summer duvets (usually 10.5 - 13 tog) because they provide more insulation. They can be filled with goose down or synthetic fibres depending on your preferences and whether you're a sleeper or need an option that is hypoallergenic.
The construction method of your winter duvet is also important to consider as this can affect how warm it will be. Choosing one with a baffle box design will ensure that the Down stays evenly distributed and lofts correctly which means you'll have a constant warmth throughout your duvet. Another option is a box that has a stitched design, which has a stitched longitudinal seam that can leave cold zones where the Down isn't being utilised.
A feather-and-down duvet makes an excellent winter duvet. It is naturally warm, airy, and regulates your body temperature. It keeps you warm during cold winter days and cools you down when you get too hot. Synthetic fibre filling is an excellent alternative if you're allergic to feathers or down. They're hypoallergenic, easy to wash and long-lasting.
Wool is a fantastic choice for a winter-weight duvet as it naturally insulation, antibacterial and moisture-wicking. It is also very soft, breathable, durable and comes in a variety of colors. If you are concerned about the environment, a cotton duvet is an excellent alternative to wool and is environmentally sustainable.
Many retailers offer duvets suitable for all seasons. This means you can get two duvets at the price of one. You'll get a lower tog duvet (usually 4.5 or 9 tog) to use in summer and spring/autumn, then you'll get a more substantial duvet (10.5 - 13 tog) to use in winter. These duvets can be attached together with the button features. They are great for those who are subject to seasonal changes or have guests in the house. They are a great way to make room in your bedroom and keep a duvet in at hand for colder seasons.
Children's Duvets
A modern kids' quilt will ensure that your child feels comfortable as they drift off to sleep. The duvets for children come with many designs and patterns that let them create an environment that is comfortable for sleeping. From space to nature and even glow-in the-dark styles There's a kids' duvet for every style and size.
Toddlers and children can't regulate their body temperature as effectively as adults. This means that they are prone to overheat when wearing duvets that are too heavy for them. To avoid sweaty sleep the duvets for children typically have a low tog rating - generally 4.5 or 7.5 togs. In duvet thickness , they can be used all year round, depending on how warm you want your child to be at night and the temperature of the room.
Kids' duvets can be paired with duvet covers in similar or complementary colors. Some come with pillowcases and throw pillows. They can be used to create various bedroom designs. This makes them easy to alter as your child grows out of the style they are currently using or you are renovating the room.
When choosing a kids' quilt or duvet, consider the fabric that it is made from. Natural fibres such as cotton are breathable and provide temperature control, helping to avoid the erratic fluctuations in body temperature which can cause discomfort during sleep. Synthetic duvets provide the same comfort as natural fibres but are less abrasive and more clean.
If you're worried about allergies, Petite Amelie offers a selection of duvets for allergy sufferers with hypoallergenic fillings to ensure your child has a more peaceful and restful sleep. These high-quality kids' duvets are made from materials that resist dust mites and other allergens making them an ideal option for allergy sufferers.
