Brain-computer interface (BCI) spellers detect variations in brain waves to help subjects communicate with the world. This study introduces a P300-SSVEP hybrid BCI-based QWERTY speller.

The proposed hybrid speller, combines SSVEP and P300 features using a hybrid paradigm. P300 was used as time division multiplexing index which results in the use of lesser number of assumed frequencies for SSVEP elicitation. Each flickering frequency was also assigned a unique colour, to enhance system accuracy.

On the basis of 20 subjects, an average accuracy of classification of 96.42% and a mean information transfer rate (ITR) of 131.0 bits per min. (BPM) was achieved during the free spelling trial (trial-F).

The t test results revealed that the hybrid QWERTY speller performed significantly better (on the basis of mean classification accuracy and ITR) as compared to the traditional P300 speller) and the QWERTY SSVEP speller. Also, the amount of time taken to spell a word was significantly lesser in the case of hybrid QWERTY speller in contrast to traditional P300 speller while it was almost the same as compared to QWERTY SSVEP speller.

For this purpose, we proposed and conducted a model experiment to assess a new method of catheterization that applies a tracking system using registration with a monocular camera using the maxillary arch as the anatomical landmark. In this method, the preoperative 3D computer tomography angiographic image of the carotid artery that the catheter will be passed through is overlaid on the 2D video image. The mean TRE was 0.96 ± 0.36 mm and 0.88 ± 0.31 mm and 1.12 ± 0.46 mm when images were registered with the anterior and posterior teeth as the landmarks, respectively; the difference was not significant (p = 0.21). This tracking system that enables markerless registration simply by taking images of the maxillary anterior teeth with a single camera was convenient and effective for catheterization. In this study, we propose the new application of this tracking system and a novel method of catheterization for superselective intraarterial infusion chemoradiotherapy for oral cancer. In retrograde superselective intraarterial catheterization, a catheter is inserted into a tumor-feeding artery originating from the external carotid artery (ECA) (the lingual artery [LA], facial artery [FA], or maxillary artery [MA]). Its karyotype has been studied only by differential chromosome staining methods so far. To establish a comparative cytogenetic map of the peccary, we used cross-species hybridization with porcine (Sus scrofa, 2n=38) painting probes. Painting revealed 30 evolutionary conserved autosomal segments between pig and peccary. The q-arm of the submetacentric chromosome X is homologous to the porcine X chromosome, while the p-arm is composed of heterochromatin. Nucleolar organizer regions were detected on chromosomes 8 and 9 which are homologous to pig chromosomes 8 and 4/18, respectively. Fusions of chromosomes homologous to pig chromosomes 4/7 and 4/18 and fission of chromosome 7 are synapomorphic characters shared by Catagonus wagneri and Tayassu pecari but not by Pecari tajacu. Our results confirmed a high rate of karyotype evolution in Tayassuidae and a closer relationship of Catagonus wagneri with Tayassu pecari than with Pecari tajacu.
