Our study highlighted the mechanistic linkages between habitat change, movement behaviour and prospects for reproductive performance, which is critical for understanding how wild animals respond to rapid environmental change.Aspergillus fumigatus was found to produce thermostable exo-inulinase (EC 3.8.1.80; 38 U/ml) on inulin-rich infusions. Exo-inulinase (14.6 U/mg) was immobilized on glutaraldehyde activated Ca-alginate beads for continuous generation of fructose by hydrolyzing sucrose, chicory, and dandelion substrates. Immobilization of enzyme was confirmed by microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. The exo-inulinase was purified using ion-exchange (1.30-folds) and size-exclusion chromatography (2.71-folds). The purified exo-inulinase showed 64 kDa band on gel and was optimally active at 60 °C and pH 6.0. Kinetic constants, Km and Vmax of purified exo-inulinase, were 5.88 mM and 1.66 µM/min, respectively, and its relative activity was found to be enhanced (125.8%) in the presence of calcium ion. Immobilized preparation was utilized for continuous generation of fructose from chicory juice (26 to 70%) and dandelion root extracts (16 to 24%) by recycling upto five cycles, respectively. In comparison to other sweeteners, such as sucrose, fructose is considered as a healthy alternative. The present study demonstrated the use of immobilized exo-inulinase in continuous generation of fructose from some underutilized plant sources that can be used in food industry. PRACTICAL APPLICATION Thermostable exo-inulinase produced by A. fumigatus was immobilized on calcium alginate matrix and was employed for continuous hydrolysis of chicory juice and dandelion root extract for generation of fructose syrup.
Driven by advances in accelerator technology and the potential of exploiting the FLASH effect for the treatment of deep-seated targets (>5cm), there is an active interest in the construction of devices to deliver very high-energy electron (VHEE) beams for radiation therapy. The application of novel VHEE devices, however, requires an assessment of the tradeoffs between the different beam parameter choices including beam energies, beam divergences, and maximal field sizes. This study systematically examines the dosimetric beam properties of VHEE beams, determining their clinical usefulness while marking their limits of applications for different beam configurations.

Self-harm (SH; intentional self-poisoning or self-injury regardless of degree of suicidal intent or other types of motivation) is a growing problem in most counties, often repeated, and associated with suicide. There has been a substantial increase in both the number of trials and therapeutic approaches of psychosocial interventions for SH in adults. This review therefore updates a previous Cochrane Review (last published in 2016) on the role of psychosocial interventions in the treatment of SH in adults.
To assess the effects of psychosocial interventions for self-harm (SH) compared to comparison types of care (e.g. treatment-as-usual, routine psychiatric care, enhanced usual care, active comparator) for adults (aged 18 years or older) who engage in SH.
We searched the Cochrane Common Mental Disorders Specialised Register, the Cochrane Library (Central Register of Controlled Trials [CENTRAL] and Cochrane Database of Systematic reviews [CDSR]), together with MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, and PsycINFO (to 4 Julyy also lead to a reduction in frequency of SH. Other interventions were mostly evaluated in single trials of moderate to very low quality such that the evidence relating to the use of these interventions is inconclusive at present.In the past decades, nocturnal temperatures have been playing a disproportionate role in the global warming of the planet. Yet, they remain a neglected factor in studies assessing the impact of global warming on natural populations. Here, we question whether an intense augmentation of nocturnal temperatures is beneficial or deleterious to ectotherms. Physiological performance is influenced by thermal conditions in ectotherms and an increase in temperature by only 2°C is sufficient to induce a disproportionate increase in metabolic expenditure. Warmer nights may expand ectotherms' species thermal niche and open new opportunities for prolonged activities and improve foraging efficiency. However, increased activity may also have deleterious effects on energy balance if exposure to warmer nights reduces resting periods and elevates resting metabolic rate. We assessed whether warmer nights affected an individual's growth, dorsal skin colouration, thermoregulation behaviour, oxidative stress status and parasite load by exposing yearling common lizards (Zootoca vivipara) from four populations to either ambient or high nocturnal temperatures for approximately 5 weeks. Warmer nocturnal temperatures increased the prevalence of ectoparasitic infestation and altered allocation of resources towards structural growth rather than storage. check details We found no change in markers for oxidative stress. The thermal treatment did not influence thermal preferences, but influenced dorsal skin brightness and luminance, in line with a predicted acclimation response in colder environments to enhance heat gain from solar radiation. Altogether, our results highlight the importance of considering nocturnal warming as an independent factor affecting ectotherms' life history in the context of global climate change. .
