Classic spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) in pediatric sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (SAHS) traditionally evaluates the very low frequency (VLF 0-0.04 Hz), low frequency (LF 0.04-0.15 Hz), and high frequency (HF 0.15-0.40 Hz) bands. However, specific SAHS-related frequency bands have not been explored.

One thousand seven hundred and thirty-eight HRV overnight recordings from two pediatric databases (0-13 years) were evaluated. The first one (981 children) served as training set to define new HRV pediatric SAHS-related frequency bands. The associated relative power (RP) were computed in the test set, the Childhood Adenotonsillectomy Trial database (CHAT, 757 children). Their relationships with polysomnographic variables and diagnostic ability were assessed.

Two new specific spectral bands of pediatric SAHS within 0-0.15 Hz were related to duration of apneic events, number of awakenings, and wakefulness after sleep onset (WASO), while an adaptive individual-specific new band from HF was re band BW1 (0.001-0.005 Hz) is related to macro sleep disruptions. Spectral band BW2 (0.028-0.074 Hz) is related to the duration of apneic events. An adaptive spectral band within the respiratory range, termed ABW3, is related to oxygen desaturations. Infant adiposity is linked to both high maternal fat mass (FM) and excessive gestational FM gain, whereas the association with maternal adipokines is less clear. The aim was to determine how levels of maternal leptin, the soluble leptin receptor (sOB-R), adiponectin, and FM during pregnancy were linked to infant FM in normal-weight (NW) women and women with obesity (OB).

Body composition and serum levels of leptin, adiponectin, and sOB-R were determined three times during pregnancy in 80 NW and 46 OB women. For infants, body composition was measured at 1 and 12 weeks of age.

Maternal leptin and sOB-R levels increased during pregnancy. For NW women, infant FM at 1 week was inversely associated with changes in maternal leptin and at 12 weeks inversely associated with absolute maternal sOB-R levels throughout pregnancy, as well as changes in sOB-R levels in early pregnancy. For OB women, infant FM at both 1 and 12 weeks were best explained by maternal FM.

Perinatal events may alter psychosexual development. We aimed to assess whether a preterm birth at very low birth weight (VLBW; <1500 g) or antenatal synthetic glucocorticoids (sGC) given to the mother are associated with altered sex-typical behavior in childhood.

Sex-typical behavior was assessed using the Pre-school Activities Inventory (PSAI) at the mean age of 4.9 years (SD 1.6) in 879 children, of whom 143 were preterm with VLBW (PT <1500 g, all exposed to sGC), 282 were preterm with birth weight ≥1500 g (PT ≥1500 g, 171 exposed to sGC), and 454 were full term (FT, 166 exposed to sGC).

Antenatal sGC was not associated with PSAI scores in either sex. PT <1500 g boys had less male-typical PSAI scores than other boys, even in multivariate model adjusting for age, maternal age, antenatal sGC, number of brothers and sisters, and motor or cognitive impairment. PT <1500 g girls had less female-typical PSAI scores than other girls in the multivariate model. The effect size was small (d = 0.03) study indicate that preterm birth with very low birth weight less then 1500 g is associated with reduced sex-typical behavior in childhood in both sexes. These observations are in line with the previous data indicating altered psychosexual development in adults born preterm. Mechanisms underlying these observations are not fully understood and require further studies.
Different interventions and treatments are available for growth-restricted newborns to improve neonatal and long-term outcomes. Lack of outcome standardization across trials of feeding interventions limits pooled analysis of intervention effects. This study aimed to develop a core outcome set (COS) and minimum reporting set (MRS) for this research field.

A scoping search identified relevant outcomes and baseline characteristics. These outcomes were presented to two stakeholder groups (lay experience and professional experts) in three rounds of online Delphi surveys. The professional experts were involved in the development of the MRS. All items were rated for their importance on a 5-point Likert scale and re-rated in subsequent rounds after presentation of the results at the group level. During a face-to-face consensus meeting the final COS and MRS were determined.

Forty-seven of 53 experts (89%) who completed the first round completed all three survey rounds. After the consensus meeting, consensus was reached on 19 outcomes and 17 baseline characteristics.
