Category A1 Regulations and How Fragomen Can Help
Regulations for Category A1 are becoming more important for businesses that send employees abroad. Infractions can have a major impact on the productivity of employees and can result in expensive fines. Fragomen is a pioneer in the development of strategies for government social security coordination. We can help you optimize your global mobility programs to ensure compliance from the start.
1. Vehicles with maximum authorized mass of up to 750 kg
Vehicles that are not classified as category A1 vehicles include powered cycles, two and three-wheel mopeds and motorized invalid carriages and some single-axle tractors. These types of vehicles are often used for transportation or work and may have restrictions on the maximum speed they can be driven at.
The weight of a vehicle is commonly used to categorize vehicles that are licensed to drive. This includes the weight that is not loaded as well as any equipment or accessories that are attached to the vehicle. This excludes any cargo being transported. When you register a vehicle or applying for a licence it is crucial to know its category.
Category B allows drivers to operate vehicles that weigh up to 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass (MAM) and up to eight seats for passengers. A category B car can be paired with a trailer up to 4,250 pounds. This license can be combined with C+E to allow the driver to drive vehicles with a maximum weight of 16,000kg MAM as well as a vehicle trailer that weighs up to 8,250kg MAM.
The category A1 driving licence is a two-stage licence that requires first passing an examination for driving in Category A2. This license permits you to drive small motorized vehicles like mopeds and other two-wheeled vehicles that have a the maximum engine displacement of 125 cc and a mass / power ratio not exceeding 11 kW. This license is only available to those who are older than the age of 16.
2. Vehicles that have a maximum permitted mass of 750kg in combination with trailers
A vehicle in category B can be paired with a trailer of up to 750 kilograms maximum authorised mass (MAM) without the need for a separate license. The trailer's MAM is usually indicated on the vehicle's chassis plate. If the total potential (plate) weight of the towing vehicle and trailer exceeds 750 kg, the code 96 is required to be added to the category B driving license.
Drivers who have a category B driving license can drive private vehicles or light lorries, as well as small caravans. They can pull O1 or O2 trailers as long as the total weight of both vehicles is not more than 3,5 tonnes. Drivers in Category B are allowed to tow O3 trailers when the vehicle's weight without load is less than or equal to the maximum MAM of the O3 trailer.
Drivers who want to drive larger motor vehicles or caravans will need a category C licence. They will then be able to drive a bus that has more than 8 passengers and one or more trailers up to the weight of 775kg. Category DE can be obtained following qualifying for category D and gives the right to tow a trailer with an overall weight of up to 12,000kg. The minimum age for obtaining categories DE and D is 23 years old. Physically disabled drivers are able to drive vehicles with a maximum power of 15kW on motor tricycles as well as category A1 or D vehicles if they hold an interim category B licence.
3. Vehicles with a maximum authorized mass of 750 kg when in combination with motor caravans
It is important to understand the rules and regulations governing this kind of operation, if you are planning to drive a vehicle that has an authorized maximum mass of 750kg, in conjunction with a caravan. These rules are laid out in the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations.
The rules governing this type of towing can be complex and differ based on the type of driving licence. Examine the back of your licence card to find out what you are legally able to do. The back of your driving licence card will display the start and end dates of the category you're licensed in. This should indicate which kinds of caravans and vehicles you are permitted to drive.
In general, it is recommended that the weight of your trailer should be no greater than 85 percent of the weight that is unloaded of your vehicle. This will help improve stability when towing. It's also an excellent idea to practice driving your trailer and vehicle on a road that is open before you take to the road.
A Category B license holder is able to drive a car up to 3,500kg Maximum Authorized Weight (MAM) in conjunction with a 750kg maximum authorized mass (MAM) trailer. They are also able to combine two trailers provided that their combined MAM doesn't exceed 7,500kg. However they must ensure that the towing vehicle as well as the trailer are properly connected and the trailer has working brakes. This is true regardless of whether the trailer is attached via an inertia brake, or an overrun system.
4. Vehicles with a maximum weight of 750 kg combined with an armored vehicle
The category B licence permits drivers to drive vehicles that have trailers up to 8,250 kg maximum mass per axle. It also permits them to drive minibuses with up to eight seats and tow trailers of up to 750 kg MAM. In addition, physical disabled drivers with category B entitlement can ride motor tricycles with the power of up 15 kW.
Drivers with a category A1 licence can drive light motorbikes. They are able to have a cylinder size up to 125 cc, and a weight-to-power ratio of up to 0.1 kg/kW. They can also drive three-wheeled vehicles that have an cylinder capacity of up to 50 cc and they can also drive mopeds that have two or three wheels.
In certain states, drivers with a category A license can also drive vehicles consisting of a tractor unit with trailer. However, they must be in compliance with the requirements of axle spacing for the tractor unit and trailer combination. These specifications are displayed by the manufacturer on a sheet that is attached to the tractor.
Category C1 drivers are able to drive vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of 3,500 and 7,500 kg in combination with trailers. They are also able to drive vehicles in category C or category D that are specifically designed for purposes such as transporting passengers or goods. These vehicles must be fitted with a passenger seating area and a bathroom. They may also be fitted with a refrigerator, freezer or other appliances.
5. Vehicles that have a maximum mass of 750 kilograms, when combined with an ambulance
This category permits you to drive vehicles and trailers with a maximum authorized mass of 750 kg in combination with an ambulance. This includes trikes, motorcycles trials e-scooters, trikes, and small motor vehicles without seating for passengers. You can also operate a minibus that can carry up to eight passengers. You can check what vehicles your license permits you to drive by using the Government website.
Karta Express Polska , ground ambulances, and neonatal ambulances must have a horizontal reflective band permanently affixed to the rear and sides of the vehicle's body. The band should be of a color that contrasts with the background of the vehicle body. The name of the EMS agency should be permanently affixed in font with a minimum height that is four inches.
In addition to the markings mentioned above, a nontransport emergency response vehicle should also be equipped with fixed communication equipment that can provide direct two-way voice communication capabilities between EMS vehicles and air ambulances designated as the primary transport service area by the state. This could be done through commercial radio services (CMRS) or private radio services. During transportation, EMS agencies must keep drugs and drug kits in a locked container or bracket.
Additionally, any vehicle that is a part of an emergency response team or rescue response unit must be equipped with an on-board defibrillator and be marked with appropriate symbols to identify its usage. The markings must not imply or display a specific level of patient care unless the EMS agency has Paramedics on duty at all times.
6. Vehicles with a maximum mass of 750 kg, combined with a hearse
The maximum authorized mass (MAM), or weight, of a vehicle is the maximum weight it can support under normal conditions. It includes the weight of the driver, all components that are normally used by the vehicle and vital fluids such as oil. This information should be displayed in the owner's manual or on a sticker fitted to the vehicle. If you have a combination of a category B vehicle with a trailer on your licence, you can tow up 8.25 tonnes MAM.
You can drive a category B motor car and a trailer having an authorized maximum mass of up to 7,500 kilograms in the event that you hold a category B license that was issued at least two years ago and code 96 is not entered on your driving license. This exemption is available to vehicles that are not classified as lorries and have seats for up to 8 passengers and the driver. It also includes work vehicles and land tractors, as well as motor-driven quadricycles.
If you have a B category licence, and the code 96 has not been entered on your licence, you are able to drive a combination that consists of a B category vehicle and a trailer with an maximum weight of 775kg. This exemption is for vehicles driven on public roads, but are not classified as lorries or trailers. It also applies to vehicles that are driven on private roads and aren't classified as lorries, however they are used for the transport of funeral items.
