In this study, feedlot steers with clinical signs of BRD and rectal temperatures lower than traditional cutoffs displayed a positive response to antimicrobial therapy. A clear benefit of FTS was not observed in this study. Calves with a WS ≥ 2 were lighter at the time of first BRD treatment compared to calves with a WS = 1. However, standalone TIL therapy was the optimal BRD treatment modality across WS strata in this study. In October 2018, an outbreak of transmissible viral proventriculitis (TVP) occurred in 30-day-old commercial broiler chickens on a farm in Weifang, China. TVP, an infectious viral disease characterized by runting and stunting, is associated with many viruses, and has a significant economic impact on the global poultry industry. TVP is diagnosed according to clinical symptoms, gross and histological lesions, and negative PCR results for pathogenic bacteria, avian leukosis virus subgroup J, Marek's disease virus, reticuloendotheliosis virus, infectious bursa disease virus, avian reovirus, chicken anemia virus, infectious bronchitis virus, chicken proventricular necrosis virus, gyrovirus 3 and chicken circovirus. To further detect the possible causative pathogens of TVP, we used PacBio third-generation sequencing to examine proventricular samples. A dominant abundance of the novel cyclovirus (CyCV), chCyCV-SDAU-1, was identified in broilers with TVP. The complete chCyCV-SDAU-1 genome was verified via inverse PCR, was 1936 bp long, and consisted of Rep, Cp, and two intergenic regions. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that chCyCV-SDAU-1 formed an independent branch with other cycloviruses. The homology of chCyCV-SDAU-1 with 20 others known cycloviruses was less then 40%. Retrospective investigation showed that the CyCV infection rate in the broilers with TVP was 80% (16/20), while no CyCV was found in healthy chickens. In conclusion, a novel CyCV was identified in chickens with TVP, though its role in this disease is unclear.Cardiopathy is a common, irreversible manifestation of the chronic phase of Chagas disease; however, there is controversy as to how the causes for progression from the acute to the chronic phase are defined. In this work, the presence of the parasite is correlated with the occurrence of cell infiltration and fibrosis in cardiac tissues, as well as IgG detection and disease progression in a murine model. Fifty CD1 mice were infected intraperitoneally with Trypanosoma cruzi, while 30 control were administered with saline solution. Parasitemia levels were determined, and IgG titers were quantified by ELISA. RCM1 At different times, randomly selected mice were euthanized, and the heart was recovered. Cardiac tissue slides were stained with HE and Masson trichrome stain. A significant increase in parasitemia levels was observed after 15 days post-infection (dpi), with a maximum of 4.1 × 106 parasites on 33 dpi, ending on 43 dpi; amastigote nests were observed on 15-62 dpi. Histological analysis revealed lymphocytic inf other hand, fibrosis was determined to start on the acute phase, being more apparent in the chronic phase, when Chagas disease-related cardiopathy is induced.Senecavirus A (SVA), previously known as Seneca Valley virus, is classified into the genus Senecavirus in the family Picornaviridae. This virus can cause vesicular disease and epidemic transient neonatal losses in swine. Typical clinical signs include vesicular and/or ulcerative lesions on the snout, oral mucosa, coronary bands and hooves. SVA emerged in Guangdong Province of China in 2015, and thereafter gradually spread into other provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (P.A.M.s). Nowadays more than half of the P.A.M.s have been affected by SVA, and asymptomatic infection has occurred in some areas. The phylogenetic analysis shows that China isolates are clustered into five genetic branches, implying a fast evolutionary speed since SVA emergence in 2015. This review presented current knowledge concerning SVA infection in China, including its history, epidemiology, evolutionary characteristics, diagnostics and vaccines.Computed tomography (CT) is one of the most useful techniques for digitizing bone structures and making endocranial models from the neurocranium. The resulting digital endocasts reflect the morphology of the brain and the associated structures. Our first aim was to document the methodology behind creating detailed digital endocasts of canine skulls. We created digital endocasts of the skulls of 24 different dog breeds and 4 wild canids for visualization and teaching purposes. We used CT scanning with 0.323 mm × 0.322 mm × 0.6 mm resolution. The imaging data were segmented with 3D Slicer software and refined with Autodesk Meshmixer. Images were visualized in 3D Slicer and surface models were converted to 3D PDFs to provide easier interactive access, and 3D prints were also generated for visualization purposes. Our second aim was to analyze how skull length and width relate to the surface areas of the prepiriform rhinencephalic, prefrontal, and non-prefrontal cerebral convexity areas of the endocasts. The rhinencephalic area ratio decreased with a larger skull index. Our results open the possibility to analyze the relationship between the skull and brain morphology, and to link certain features to behavior, and cognition in dogs.Galectins play important roles in the host's innate immunity as pattern recognition receptors. In this study, the coding sequences of galectin-2 were identified from Cherry Valley ducks. Tissue distribution of duck galectin-2 (duGal-2) in healthy ducks and ducks infected with avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) was studied, respectively. The results showed that duGal-2 expression was higher in the gut, kidney, and liver tissue, and weakly expressed in the lung and brain, in healthy ducks; however, the expression level of duGal-2 was detected as being up-regulated after infection with APEC. In addition, knockdown or overexpression of duGal-2 in DEFs was achieved by small interference RNA (siRNA) transfection and plasmid transduction, respectively. The knockdown of duGal-2 led to a decrease in the expression of some inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8, while the expression levels of anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 were up-regulated. At the same time, the bacterial load of APEC was increased after knockdown of duGal-2 in vitro.
