05). There were non-significant differences between taping and bandaging groups (P<.05) during all assessments.
This study indicated that ankle taping and bandaging immediately improve vertical jump only; while they improve proprioception, balance, and vertical jump after 2-weeks and 2-months.

Even though most studies normalize the surface EMG signal of the gastrocnemius muscle using a single position of maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC), several studies tend to indicate that several positions are in fact needed to obtain a maximal voluntary activation (MVA) for most of the subjects. However, no combination of positions has already been described.
A combination of MVIC positions to normalize the EMG signal of the gastrocnemius muscle is investigated. the influence of using several positions on the reproducibility of the normalization process is evaluated.
Twenty healthy volunteers (45 % female - 55 % male, 25.4 years (SD 4.3), 72.6 kg (SD 13.9), 1.78 m (SD 0.12)) were recruited. Six positions for MVIC were compared and the effect of several normalization combinations on a functional task (gait) was evaluated.
Several positions are needed to obtain at least 90 % of the MVA for 90 % of the volunteers even though the use of a single well-chosen position (unipodal standing position with knee fully extended and ankle fully plantar-flexed) will lead to no statistically significant differences of the gait evaluation during stance phase. GLPG0187 research buy For each position, five repetitions of the MVIC are recommended to obtain a valid MVA.
This study confirms that using several MVIC positions is recommended when possible to normalize the gastrocnemius muscle EMG signal. However, in the situation of a patient where limited MVIC attempts are possible, using a single well-chosen position should not significantly influence the amplitude and the reproducibility of the measures.

Motion platforms and driving simulators have been shown to contribute to motion sickness and a short-term increase in standing postural sway. However, no studies to date have investigated how the motion of a passenger vehicle and the performance of a task during a drive on a closed test track affects post-drive standing balance.
What are the effects of (1) a continuous, scripted drive on a closed test track, and (2) the performance of a handheld tablet-based task during the scripted drive, on post-drive standing balance?
Fifty adults (23 males, 27 females; 40.0 ± 20.6 yr) rode in the front passenger seat of a midsized sedan on a scripted drive. Participants were assigned to one of the acceleration levels (Low, Moderate) and completed both Task and No-Task test conditions, involving a visual-based task on a handheld tablet device. Before and after each scripted drive, participants completed two standing balance exercises 1) feet tandem, eyes open, on firm support, and 2) feet together, eyes closed, on foost-drive balance will be negatively affected.
This study is the first to explore balance following a scripted drive on a closed test track. Changes in post-drive balance introduces potential risks to vehicle passengers; concurrent performance of a task on a handheld device further increases the likelihood that post-drive balance will be negatively affected.
Whole-body movement adjustments during gait are common post-stroke, but comprehensive ways of quantifying and evaluating gait from a whole-body perspective are lacking.
Can novel kinematic variables related to Center of Mass (CoM) position discriminate side asymmetries as well as coordination between the upper and lower body during gait within persons post-stroke and compared to non-disabled controls?
Thirty-one persons post-stroke and 41 age-matched non-disabled controls walking at their self-selected speed were recorded by 3D motion capture. The Ankle-CoM Inclination Angle (A-CoMIA) and the Head-CoM Inclination Angle (H-CoMIA) defined the angle between the CoM and the ankle and the head, respectively, in the frontal plane. These angles and their angular velocities were compared between groups, and with regard to motor impairment severity during all phases of the gait cycle (GC) using a functional interval-wise testing analysis suitable for curve data. Upper and lower body coordination was assessed usiation.
The A-CoMIA and Head-CoMIA discriminated post-stroke gait from non-disabled, as well as motor impairment severity. These variables with the advantageous curve analysis during the entire GC add valuable whole-body information to existing parameters of post-stroke gait analysis through assessment of symmetry and upper and lower body coordination.Paclitaxel coated balloon catheters (PCB) were developed as a polymer-free non-implantable alternative to drug eluting stents, delivering similar drug payloads in a matter of minutes. While PCB have shown efficacy in treating peripheral arterial disease in certain patient groups, restenosis rates remain high and there is no class effect. To help further optimize these devices, we developed a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging technique and computational modeling approach that provide insights into the coating micromorphology dependence of in vivo drug transfer and retention. PCBs coated with amorphous/flaky or microneedle coatings were inflated for 60 sec in porcine femoral arteries. Animals were euthanized at 0.5, 24 and 72 h and treated arteries processed for SEM to image endoluminal coating distribution followed by paclitaxel quantification by mass spectrometry (MS). Endoluminal surfaces exhibited sparse coating patches at 0.5 h, predominantly protruding (13.71 vs 0.59%, P 93% even as nonprotruding coating levels were stable between 0.
