The aim of this study was to evaluate whether processing characteristics of steamed bread enriched with potato pulp could be improved through the addition of different emulsifiers (soy lecithin-Soy L, sodium stearoyl lactate and diacetyl tartaric esters of monoglyceride) and enzymes (glucose oxidase-GOX and transglutaminase). Results showed that separate addition of each emulsifier at 1% concentration or each enzyme at 1.5 U/g could increase the viscoelasticity and strength of potato pulp dough due to enhancement of gluten network. Fermentation properties of dough showed that Soy L and GOX significantly (P less then 0.05) increased the maximum dough height and the gas retention capacity during fermentation which promoting dough expansion. Moreover, Soy L and GOX increased specific volume and improved crumb structure and softness of steamed bread, which were consistent with the results of sensory analysis. In conclusion, Soy L and GOX could be used as improvers of potato pulp steamed bread.Spectroscopies analysis indicated that kefiran contains branched hexasaccharide repeating units. Neat kefiran films, 2 and 5% w/w of glycerol, d-glucitol, d-galactitol, d-mannitol, and d-limonene were incorporated as plasticizers. Neat and plasticized kefiran films were characterized by physical, thermal, mechanical, optical, and water solubilization properties. Neat kefiran had a glass transition temperature (Tg) of -20 ± 2 °C and, with the addition of plasticizers between -15 to -17 ± 2 °C. The values were close to the neat kefiran, and the results could be attributed to a lower amount of plasticizer used. The solubility of the glycerol plasticized films increases by 33% and decreased with the concentration of other plasticizers in comparison with the neat kefiran. d-glucitol and d-galactitol decreased the microhardness and Young's Modulus of films around 30% and 74% respectively, obtaining more flexible kefiran films. Kefiran based films could find applications as potential materials in the food-packaging industry.China has experienced significant economic growth in recent decades, and this has accounted for an increase in meat consumption. Therefore, it is important to understand the underlying factors of consumers' perception and purchasing behaviour of lamb meat in China. This study adopts a conceptual framework, which includes expectations, perception, and purchase behaviour of red meat among Chinese consumers. A total of 31 questions were included in a self-administered questionnaire through an online platform, with 601 meat consumers who participated in this study. Results showed that Australian and New Zealand meat were perceived as having positive quality characteristics (e.g. natural, reliable) followed by Chinese local meat. Partial Least Squares Path Modelling (PLS-PM) further identified that the key drivers that influenced meat purchase were seasonality, purchase location, and consumer experience particularly in cooking methods used. Purchase point for Chinese consumers were equally weighed with butchers, supermarket, and traditional market as being the most common purchase locations. Unexpectedly, Chinese consumers were found to consume less meat in summer and more during winter. Purchase drivers included meat safety certification and the perceived health benefits of meat.Atmospheric oxygen concentrations rose markedly at several points in evolutionary history. Each of these increases was followed by an evolutionary leap in organismal complexity, and thus the cellular adaptions we see today have been shaped by the levels of oxygen within our atmosphere. In eukaryotic cells, oxygen is essential for the production of adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) which is the 'Universal Energy Currency' of life. Aerobic organisms survived by evolving precise mechanisms for converting oxygen within the environment into energy. Higher mammals developed specialised organs for detecting and responding to changes in oxygen content to maintain gaseous homeostasis for survival. Hypoxia is sensed by the carotid bodies, the primary chemoreceptor organs which utilise multiple neurotransmitters one of which is ATP to evoke compensatory reflexes. Selleckchem AZD4547 Yet, a paradox is presented in oxygen sensing cells of the carotid body when during periods of low oxygen, ATP is seemingly released in abundance to transmit this signal although the synthesis of ATP is theoretically halted because of its dependence on oxygen. We propose potential mechanisms to maintain ATP production in hypoxia and summarise recent data revealing elevated sensitivity of purinergic signalling within the carotid body during conditions of sympathetic overactivity and hypertension. We propose the carotid body is hypoxic in numerous chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and highlight the therapeutic potential for modulating purinergic transmission. In the present study, the role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in alleviating NaCl (20 mM) induced toxicity on growth, photosynthetic pigments and photochemistry of PS II, and impact on oxidative stress and antioxidant systems of eggplant and tomato was studied. To confirm the role of H2S (donor sodium hydrogen sulphide (NaHS; 40 μM)) under stress, H2S scavenger; hypotaurine (HT; 200 μM) and inhibitor, propargylglycine (PAG; 100 μM) in combination with NaHS was added to the growth medium of NaCl stressed seedlings. The NaCl reduced the overall growth of the seedlings as the Na+ uptake was increased which led to removal of K+, thereby Na+/K+ homeostasis was disturbed. This condition caused severe impact on photosynthetic pigments and PS II photochemistry, thus significant decline in the values of fluorescence kinetics parameters such as Fv/Fm, FV/F0, φE0, ѱ0, PIABS except F0/FV and enhancement in energy flux parameters such as ABS/RC, TR0/RC, ET0/RC and DI0/RC was obtained. Exogenous H2S not only abolished the toxicdition.
To explore the reproductive outcomes of women with a history of cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) and the influence of various treatments on subsequent pregnancy outcomes.
The PubMed, Embase, Medline, Cochrane Library and ClinicalTrial.gov databases were searched for studies with the outcomes of pregnancy after CSP treatment. Studies that reported reproductive outcomes after CSP with more than 5 followed cases were included. The main data collected includes the treatment methods of CSP and subsequent pregnancy outcomes. The main information includes intrauterine pregnancy, recurrent CSP (RCSP), and spontaneous miscarriage, while the secondary information includes complications during pregnancies and the outcomes of childbirths. According to different treatments (conservative treatment, surgical treatment without resection of cesarean scar, and surgical treatment with resection of cesarean scar), a stratified analysis was carried out to compare the influence of treatments on subsequent pregnancy outcomes.
A total of 32 studies including 3380 cases of CSP met the inclusion criteria, of which 583 cases conceived again after treatment (including 292 cases of unexpected pregnancy), and finally 178 cases delivered successfully.
