7 V, so that they no longer participate in the subsequent electrochemistry of the battery when operated in the standard voltage window of the cell. The decomposition reaction rate was found to be concentration-dependent, with a faster rate being observed at higher concentrations. Taking advantage of the inherent flow properties of the system, this work demonstrates the possibility of multi-modal in situ (online) characterizations of redox flow batteries, the characterization techniques being applicable to a range of electrochemical flow systems. As a result of its unique location, Turkey receives air masses from Europe, Russia, Middle East, and Africa, making it an important place in terms of long-range atmospheric transport (LRT) of contaminants. Atmospheric levels of 22 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), 45 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and 14 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were measured in two metropolitan cities, Istanbul and Izmir, on a weekly basis from May 2014 to May 2015. Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and its derivatives were dominant OCP species, followed by isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) at both sites. The annual mean concentration of ∑DDX (sum of o,p'-DDT, p,p'-DDT, o,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDD, o,p'-DDE, and p,p'-DDE) was 82 pg/m3 for Istanbul and 89 pg/m3 for Izmir, while these levels were about 46 pg/m3 for ∑HCHs (sum of α-, β-, γ-, and δ-HCH) at both of the sites. At both stations, tri- and tetra-PCBs and tetra- and penta-PBDEs were dominant congeners. The temperature dependence indicates that both LRT and local contaminated areas contribute to the elevated levels. A Lagrangian particle dispersion model (FLEXPART) showed a few potential source regions in northern Africa and Middle East, southern-southwestern and eastern Europe including Russia, as well as from local domestic metropolitan areas.l-Theanine is the most popular nonprotein amino acid contained in tea leaves. It is one of the umami components of green tea, contributing to the unique flavor of tea. Because of its various health functions, l-theanine has been commercially developed as a valuable ingredient easily used for various applications in food and pharmaceutical industries. Nowadays, l-theanine is mass-produced by plant extraction, chemical synthesis, or enzymatic transformation in factories. This review embodies the available up to date information on the l-theanine synthesis metabolism in the tea plant as well as approaches to produce it, placing emphasis on the biotransformation of l-theanine. It also gives insight into the challenges of l-theanine production on a large scale, as well as directions for future research. This review comprehensively summarizes information on l-theanine to provide an approach for an in-depth study of l-theanine production.Cell motions such as migration and change in cellular morphology are essential activities for multicellular organism in response to environmental stimuli. These activities are a result of coordinated clustering/declustering of integrin molecules at the cell membrane. Here, we prepared DNA origami nanosprings to modulate cell motions by targeting the clustering of integrin molecules. Each nanospring was modified with arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid (RGD) domains with a spacing such that when the nanospring is coiled, the RGD ligands trigger the clustering of integrin molecules, which changes cell motions. The coiling or uncoiling of the nanospring is controlled, respectively, by the formation or dissolution of an i-motif structure between neighboring piers in the DNA origami nanodevice. At slightly acidic pH ( less then 6.5), the folding of the i-motif leads to the coiling of the nanospring, which inhibits the motion of HeLa cells. At neutrality (pH 7.4), the unfolding of the i-motif allows cells to resume mechanical movement as the nanospring becomes uncoiled. We anticipate that this pH-responsive DNA nanoassembly is valuable to inhibit the migration of metastatic cancer cells in acidic extracellular environment. Such a chemo-mechanical modulation provides a new mechanism for cells to mechanically respond to endogenous chemical cues.Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a persistent concern in drug discovery and clinical medicine. The current clinical methods to assay DILI by analyzing the enzymes in serum are still not optimal. Recent studies showed that fluorescent sensors would be efficient tools for detecting the concentration and distribution of DILI indicators with high sensitivity and specificity, in real-time, in situ, and with low damage to biosamples, as well as diagnosing DILI. This review focuses on the assessment of DILI, introduces the current mechanisms of DILI, and summarizes the design strategies of fluorescent sensors for DILI indicators, including ions, small molecules, and related enzymes. Some challenges for developing DILI diagnostic fluorescent sensors are put forward. We believe that these design strategies and challenges to evaluate DILI will inspire chemists and give them opportunities to further develop other fluorescent sensors for accurate diagnoses and therapies for other diseases.ConspectusThe optical and electronic properties of metal halide perovskites provide insight into the operation of solar cells as well as their long-term operational stability. Halide mobility in perovskite films is an important factor influencing solar cell performance. One can visualize halide ion migration through halide exchange between two nanocrystal suspensions or between physically paired films of two different metal halide perovskites. The ability to tune band gap by varying halide ratios (ClBr or BrI) allows the synthesis of mixed halide perovskites with tailored absorption and emission across the entire visible spectrum. Interestingly, mixed halide (e.g., MAPb(Br0.5I0.5)3) films undergo phase segregation to form Br-rich and I-rich sites under steady state illumination. Sitravatinib supplier Upon halting illumination, segregated phases mix to restore original mixed halide compositions. Introducing multiple cations (Cs, formamidinium) at the A site or alloying with Cl greatly suppresses halide mobilities. Long-term irradiation of MAPb(Br0.
