and patient's evolution.Excimer lasers induces significant changes to corneal structure and corneal biomechanics. The aim of this paper is to describe all laser-tissue interactions which are relevant for clinical practice, particularly, we will focus on laser ablations profiles, causes of regression and haze and prevention of those. At last the manuscript will describe the impact on corneal biomechanics of different Laser Vision Corrections techniques.Eye lens membranes are complex biological samples. EGFR inhibitor They consist of a variety of lipids that form the lipid bilayer matrix, integral proteins embedded into the lipid bilayer, and peripheral proteins. This molecular diversity in membrane composition induces formation of lipid domains with particular physical properties that are responsible for the maintenance of proper membrane functions. These domains can be, and have been, effectively described in terms of the rotational diffusion of lipid spin labels and oxygen collision with spin labels using the saturation recovery (SR) electron paramagnetic resonance method and, now, using stretched exponential function for the analysis of SR signals. Here, we report the application of the stretched exponential function analysis of SR electron paramagnetic resonance signals coming from cholesterol analog, androstane spin label (ASL) in the lipid bilayer portion of intact fiber cell plasma membranes (IMs) isolated from the cortex and nucleus of porcine eye lenses. Further, either the rotational diffusion of ASL or the oxygen collision with the spin label in nuclear IMs have slower values and wider distributions compared with those of cortical IMs. From this evidence, we conclude that lipids in nuclear IMs are less fluid and more heterogeneous than those in cortical membranes. Additionally, a comparison of properties of IMs with corresponding LLMs, and lipid and protein composition analysis, allow us to conclude that the decreased lipid-to-protein ratio not only induces greater rigidity of nuclear IMs, but also creates domains with the considerably decreased and variable oxygen accessibility. The advantages and disadvantages of this method, as well as its use for the cluster analysis, are discussed.
The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between body adiposity and physical fitness with performance in the Supine-to-Stand test (STS-test) in sedentary adolescents.

Sixty-two adolescents, of both sexes, between 10 and 16 years old, participated in the study. Body mass (BM), height, waist circumference (WC), fat mass (FM), fat-free mass (FFM), right and left handgrip strength (HGS-right, HGS-left), abdominal resistance (ABDO), flexibility (FLEX), and cardiorespiratory fitness (VO
) were measured. Body mass index (BMI), z-score BMI (BMI-z), tri-ponderal mass index (TMI) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) were calculated. The STS-test was applied to evaluate the STS-MC by the movement patterns in the execution of the test. The STS-time in seconds (s) was categorized into terciles fast (FG < 2.0 s), intermediate (IG = 2.0-2.6 s) and slow (SG > 2.6 s). One-way ANOVA, Chi-square, Spearman's correlation coefficient as well as non-parametric tests were used, with significance p ≤ 0.05.

The SG presented higher BMI, BMI-z, TMI, WHtR, FM, %FM, as well as lower averages for %FFM, HGS-right, HGS-left, FLEX, ABDO, VO
, VO
relative to BM (VO
) in relation to GF. The BMI, BMI-z, TMI, WC, WHtR and FM showed moderate and direct correlations with STS-time and inverse with STS-MC (p < 0.01). HGS-right, HGS-left, ABDO, and VO
showed moderate and an inverse correlation with STS-time (p < 0.05). The VO
was moderate and with direct correlations to STS-MC (p < 0.01).

It is concluded that excess fat and low physical fitness hamper STS-test performance. Therefore, the STS-test can be used for screening students to assess MC.

Brachial artery transposition (BAT) is not a well known method for obtaining vascular access (VA) for maintenance haemodialysis. This study evaluated the outcomes of BAT.

This multicentre retrospective cohort study included 233 consecutive patients who underwent BAT between January 2012 and December 2013. The indications were inadequate vessels for obtaining VA, severe heart failure, hand ischaemia, central vein stenosis/occlusion, or a history of catheter/graft infection. The transposed brachial artery was used only for arterial inflow and other routes were used for outflow.

BAT was successful in 227 patients, and adequate blood flow was achieved during dialysis sessions. The first successful cannulation was after a median of 18 days. BAT was performed using superficial veins as the return route in 127 patients and arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation in 63 patients to prevent maturation failure. In 41 patients with central venous catheterisation, the transposed brachial artery was used for arterial inive technique. The patency was high for the transposed brachial artery but adequate for the access circuit. BAT can be considered for patients with an unobtainable standard arteriovenous access.
We investigated the confidence levels of undergraduate dental students who used dental anesthesia simulators and patient reports of undergraduate dental students' confidence levels in delivering anesthesia injections, in comparison with undergraduate dental students who did not use dental anesthesia simulators. We also investigated application success rates.

The study was carried out in the dental anesthesia simulator laboratory and in the faculty clinics of the Faculty of Dentistry of Ankara University. One-hundred volunteer undergraduate dental students who had completed the third year of the 5-year undergraduate education program and who had not performed local anesthesia on a patient participated in the study. Seventy and 30 undergraduate dental students did and did not receive training on dental anesthesia simulators, respectively, before performing procedures on patients. Using a questionnaire, undergraduate dental students conducted a self-assessment of preparedness and confidence, educators assessed the application success rates, and patients evaluated the undergraduate dental students' confidence levels.
