A retrospective chart review analysis of all patients under 14 years of age who underwent congenital lung and mediastinal lesion resection in a single tertiary center from June 1997 to June 2018 was performed.

In total, 108 cases of resected lung and mediastinal lesions were performed from June 1997 to June 2018. Congenital lung and mediastinal lesions were found in 52 (48%) cases. Overall, 23 cases were males (44%) and 29 (56%) were females. The most common histopathology was congenital lobar emphysema.

To evaluate the demographic data and complications in children who had undergone percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) over 9 years period.

The demographic data, complications, length of hospital admission related to PEG insertion and follow-up findings of 39 patients who had undergone percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy using the standard pull-through technique between 2011 and 2020 were examined. The study took place at the Gastroenterology Division, Department of Pediatrics, Prince Sultan Military Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia RESULTS The most common indications of feeding with a gastrostomy tube include neurological diseases (n=30, 76.9%), followed by metabolic disorders (n=3, 7.69%), chronic diarrhea (n=2, 5.1%), chronic kidney diseases (n=2, 5.1%), cystic fibrosis (n=1, 2.56%), feeding aversion fibrosis (n=1, 2.56%). PI3K inhibitor Out of the 39 patients, 20 (51%) did not have any complications. However, minor complication are expected. Most common complications included local infection (n=14, 35.89%) followed by granulation tissue (n=6, 15.38%), "buried bumper syndrome" developed in one.

This study was conducted from May 2019 to March 2020 at the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, College of Applied Medical Sciences, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia. The antimicrobial activity, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of TQ were determined using an agar well diffusion method and broth microdilution assays, and the synergistic effect was evaluated using antibiotics in parallel. The disruptive effect of TQ on bacterial cell membranes was determined using scanning electron microscopy. The antivirulence properties of TQ, which include adherence and biofilm formation, were also investigated using adherence and biofilm formation assays, respectively.

Thymoquinone demonstrated bactericidal efficacy against 4/14 bacterial strains, with MIC range of 1.04-8.3 µg/mL and and MBC range of 10.41-66.66 µg/mL. Thymoquinone showed synergism against

in combination with the tested antibiotics. Thymoquinone inhibited bacterial adhesion by 39%-54%, 48%-68%, and 61%-81% at 0.5 × MIC, 1 × MIC, and 2 × MIC, respectively. The tested bacterial strains significantly inhibited biofilm formation after treatment with various concentrations of TQ for 24 and 48 hours.

To investigate the safety and cost-effectiveness of outpatient thyroidectomy and provide a systematic postoperative protocol for safe discharge.

In this retrospective review, the medical records of all patients who underwent total, hemi, or completion thyroidectomy from July 2017 to April 2019 at 2 tertiary care hospitals were reviewed. Multivariable analysis was performed on the potential predictors of postoperative complications. Healthcare costs were calculated by the type of admission based on the average costs at the 2 centers.

One hundred twenty-two patients were enrolled in this study. The majority of cases were in the outpatient group (n=76, 62.3%). Total thyroidectomy was the most prevalent type of surgery (n=90, 73.7%). There were a total of 20 complications in 18 patients (inpatient=9 versus [vs.] outpatient=9). No cases of cervical hematoma or bilateral vocal cord paralysis were encountered. No significant difference was found between the type of admission (outpatient vs. inpatient) and postsurgical complications (
=0.24). The multivariable regression model retained significance for male gender and American Society of Anesthesiologists Classification III as potential predictors of postoperative complications. Healthcare costs would be reduced by at least 15.5% with the implementation of outpatient surgery.
