The role of the tumor suppressor and the epigenetic regulator in tumor cell ferroptosis will also be described. Finally, old drugs that can be repurposed to induce ferroptosis will be characterized, aiming for drug repurposing and novel drug combinations for cancer therapy more efficiently and economically.Ever since endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) was found in mammals in 1989, accumulated evidence has demonstrated that H2S functions as a novel neurological gasotransmitter in brain tissues and may play a key role in traumatic brain injury. It has been proved that H2S has an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptosis function in the neuron system and functions as a neuroprotective factor against secondary brain injury. In addition, H2S has other biologic effects such as regulating the intracellular concentration of Ca2+, facilitating hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP), and activating ATP-sensitive K channels. Due to the toxic nature of H2S when exceeding the physiological dose in the human body, only a small amount of H2S-related therapies was applied to clinical treatment. Therefore, it has huge therapeutic potential and has great hope for recovering patients with traumatic brain injury.Septic shock is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome associated with circulatory failure leading to organ failure with a 40% mortality rate. Early diagnosis and prognosis of septic shock are necessary for specific and timely treatment. However, no predictive biomarker is available. In recent years, improvements in proteomics-based mass spectrometry have improved the detection of such biomarkers. This approach can be performed on different samples such as tissue or biological fluids. TAPI-1 in vitro Working directly from human samples is complicated owing to interindividual variability. Indeed, patients are admitted at different stages of disease development and with signs of varying severity from one patient to another. All of these elements interfere with the identification of early, sensitive, and specific septic shock biomarkers. For these reasons, animal models of sepsis, although imperfect, are used to control the kinetics of the development of the pathology and to standardise experimentation, facilitating the identification of potential biomarkers. These elements underline the importance of the choice of animal model used and the sample to be studied during preclinical studies. The aim of this review is to discuss the relevance of different approaches to enable the identification of biomarkers that could indirectly be relevant to the clinical setting.
To investigate the effects of Danshen on the imaging and histological parameters, expression levels of ECM-associated proteins and inflammatory factors, and antioxidative activity in the degenerated intervertebral disc (IVD) of SD rats.
Sixty male rats were randomly divided into three groups (control, IDD, and Danshen IDD). Percutaneous needle puncture in Co8-9 intervertebral disc was conducted in all rats of the IDD and Danshen IDD groups to induce intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). After operation, animals of the Danshen IDD group were administrated with Danshen granules (3 g/kg body weight ) by gavage once a day. Four weeks later, the coccygeal vertebrae were harvested and used for imaging (disc height and MR signal), histological, immunohistochemical, and biochemical [water content, glycosaminoglycans (GAG), superoxide dismutase (SOD2), glutathione (GSH), and malondialdehyde (MDA)] analyses.
The puncture induced significant decreased IVD space and MR T2 signal at both 2 and 4 weeks, which were egeneration in SD rats by suppressing the oxidation reaction.
Hypothyroidism is believed to be associated with dyslipidemia and is considered a risk factor for the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD). Vitamin D, due to its steroid hormone action, retains cell function and controls the metabolism of lipids. Therefore, the present study was carried out to show the association of the risk factors of ASCVD and deficiency of thyroid hormones and vitamin D levels since no previous studies have been performed on Saudi patients before.
. A retrospective cohort study was carried out on 400 hypothyroid patients. Medical records of those patients were followed up and were classified as normal and hypothyroid patients according to their thyroid-stimulating hormone levels. TSH, vitamin D, and lipid profiles were determined using the ELISA technique.
Total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were significantly higher in hypothyroid patients than those in the normal group. We have found a significant correlation between TSH levels and the risk factors of ASCVD (total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL-C). Moreover, a significant correlation between vitamin D levels and the risk factors of ASCVD (total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL-C) has been found. In addition, there is a correlation between deficiency of Vit D and low-TSH levels (95% CI 1.092-4.05) indicating a higher risk for the development of ASCVD among those patients.
Hypothyroid and vitamin D-deficient patients must be screened regularly at an early stage to predict and also to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, an adequate supply of vitamin D and TH should be given to those patients to prevent cardiovascular diseases at an early stage.

Redox plays an essential role in the pathogeneses and progression of tumors, which could be regulated by long noncoding RNA (lncRNA). We aimed to develop and verify a novel redox-related lncRNA-based prognostic signature for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).
A total of 530 ccRCC patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were included in this study. All the samples were randomly split into training and test group at a 1 1 ratio. Then, we screened differentially expressed redox-related lncRNAs and constructed a novel prognostic signature from the training group using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operation (LASSO) and COX regression. Next, to verify the accuracy of the signature, we conducted risk and survival analysis, as well as the construction of ROC curve, nomogram, and calibration curves in the training group, test group, and all samples. Finally, the redox gene-redox-related lncRNA interaction network was constructed, and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was performed to investigate the status of redox-related functions between high/low-risk groups.
