This study aimed to evaluate the concurrent validity and reliability of a low-cost digital dynamometer to assess maximal isometric strength in neck movements.
Twelve recreationally active participants (6 women, 6 men; age 24.1 ± 3.4 years; height 1.71 ± 0.06 m; weight 64.6 ± 11.7 kg) performed neck flexion, extension, and lateral flexion, and maximal isometric strength was simultaneously measured using an isokinetic dynamometer (gold standard) and a digital dynamometer to evaluate the concurrent validity of the latter. One week later, all the participants repeated 3 trials of each neck movement (3 minutes apart) registered only with the digital dynamometer. The first and second trial were guided by tester 1 and the third trial was guided by tester 2.
The concurrent validity of the digital dynamometer showed a nearly perfect correlation between both devices (r > 0.986, P < .001), with Bland-Altman plots showing absolute agreement. Intertester and intratester reliability were nearly perfect for all neck movements (intraclass correlation coefficient > 0.86).

The purpose of this study was to compare craniocervical posture assessed by photogrammetry using 2 distinct palpation methods for locating the spinous process of the seventh cervical vertebra (C7SP).
This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2 phases. In phase I (n = 42), the assessor's accuracy in locating the C7SP using the flexion-extension and the modified thorax-rib static methods was compared to radiography. In phase II (n = 68), the craniocervical posture was analyzed with photogrammetry after palpation using the 2 methods. Neck pain intensity and disability were also determined.
The accuracy in locating the C7SP was higher using the modified thorax-rib static method (67%, 95% confidence interval [CI], 55-79) compared to the flexion-extension method (38%, 95% CI, 26-50, P = .016). Lower values of the craniocervical angle were obtained with the flexion-extension method than the modified thorax-rib static method (mean difference = -1.1°, 95% CI, -1.6 to -0.6, P < .001). However, both palpation methods resulted in similar classifications of participants as with or without forward head posture (P = .096). Weak correlations were observed between the craniocervical angle and neck pain intensity (ρ = -0.088 and -0.099, respectively) and disability (ρ = -0.231 and -0.249, respectively).
Craniocervical angles obtained using palpation methods with different accuracies were different, although the magnitude of the difference was insufficient to lead to different classifications of a forward head posture in adults with mild neck pain and disability. To establish the diagnostic accuracy of the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and compare its performance to that of international criteria from European Assofor the Study of the Liver (EASL), Japan Society of Hepatology (JSH), Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), and Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), and to the reporting radiologist's overall opinion regarding the probability of a nodule being a HCC by correlating with a histological diagnosis from whole liver explants.
The present single-centre, retrospective review selected participants based on the following criteria adults (≥18 years) listed for liver transplantation in 2014/2015, with liver cirrhosis at the time of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with hepatocyte specific contrast agent, and at least one liver lesion ≥10 mm on MRI with histology from subsequent liver explant for comparison. Each lesion was assessed against international criteria and givenn criteria used. OPTN criteria have the best specificity, but low sensitivity. This study aimed to correlate the presence of microlithiasis (ML) in cryptorchidism (CO) patients with the functionality of Sertoli cells and the arrest of gonocyte differentiation.
Testicular biopsies were obtained from 21 inguinal CO pediatric patients and were classified in two groups as follows patients with ML and those without ML. In both groups, the number of Sertoli cells/seminiferous cords and their functionality were determined, considering the concentrations of inhibin B. In addition, the area and the histological alterations of seminiferous epithelium were evaluated. The arrest of gonocyte differentiation was determined by immunoreactivity to SALL4, AP2ɣ, PLAP and POU5F1.
We found a statistical correlation between the presence of ML with the alterations in the functionality of Sertoli cells without reflecting in the differentiation of the gonocytes.
The study of this population suggests that the association between CO and ML shows a malfunction of the Sertoli cells without necessarily causing arrest in the differentiation of gonocytes in these patients.

To describe the clinical, surgical, and pathological features of children with acute appendicitis and amebiasis.
The medical records of children diagnosed with appendicitis and amebiasis treated at Fundación Hospital la Misericordia were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were classified into two groups according to the location of the amoebas the amoebic appendicitis (AA) group (when the amoebic infection involved the appendiceal wall), and the appendicitis with incidental amoebiasis (IA) group (when amoebas were only found in the appendiceal lumen). We compared demographics and outcomes.
We identified 23 children with appendicitis and amoebiasis. The mean age was 9 (3-15) years, and 52% were male. The main duration of the pain at the time of presentation was 1.8 (1-4) days. Fever and diarrhea were observed in 64% and 43% of the patients, respectively. Four patients had perforated appendicitis, all of them within the AA group. Anti-parasitic therapy was used only in 2 subjects (all other patients were diagnosed after discharge and were asymptomatic on follow up).
